WHERE IS DONNA LASS?

9/6/2019

Picture
If the Zodiac Killer was a native of the Bay Area and visited Lake Tahoe for recreational purposes such as hunting, fishing and hiking, then had he been responsible for the abduction and likely murder of Donna Lass on September 6th 1970, it seems a logical argument can be made for the killer disposing of his victim in an area he was familiar with. This area would be remote, free from prying eyes and somewhere the killer had previously frequented. Many killers will bury or conceal a victim in an area they feel comfortable spending the necessary time required for such a task, with limited or no fear of detection. If the Zodiac Killer was in Lake Tahoe for the wilderness and rugged terrain, he was probably familiar with the numerous hiking trails that surrounded the lake - and the many secluded areas at night, that would provide the perfect backdrop to bury a victim and lay a puzzle for the police. The burial site would likely be accessible by car, just off a hiking trail he knew well. It would be a reasonable distance from a main road, not too close to his residence, but not too far as to risk being pulled over with a body in his vehicle. The burial site of Donna Lass, as intimated by the March 22nd 1971 Pines Card fits all these criteria, and suggests (if the postcard is being truthful) that her body was hidden on the western edge of Lake Tahoe. The postcard itself, can be further backed up with the accuracy displayed by the July 13th 1971 Monticello Card. For those of you unaware of this correspondence, here is a brief recap.

The Monticello Card mimicked the Pines Card in the directional nature of the communication. The Monticello Card contained the phrases "in the woods" and "near Monticello", whereas the Pines Card stated "pass Lake Tahoe areas" and "Sierra Club". Both communications provided us with a specific location and directions, and it is my belief that both contained a punch-hole on the right-hand side of the card  The combination of a punch-hole and directions should indicate that both these postcards were designed as an overlay, pinpointing a specific location. The Monticello Card read "Near Monticello Shought Victims 21 ...... In The Woods Dies April". The card was describing the murder of Kathy Bilek, who was brutally stabbed in the Villa Montalvo woods on April 11th 1971 in Saratoga. The location he pinpointed as Monticello, was a few miles east of the crime scene - but more important - was the reason he chose the neighborhood of Monticello in the first place. Immediately alongside the neighborhood of Monticello sat the Oak Hill Memorial Park & Cemetery where Kathy Snoozy was buried. The Zodiac Killer had previously claimed the murders of Kathy Snoozy and Deborah Furlong (San Jose) in his November 8th 1969 'Dripping Pen' card by the addition of "Aug" in his running total. The Oak Hill Memorial Park & Cemetery would have sat under the punch-hole on the Monticello Card. This punch-hole would not only be over a memorial park, but over a burial site. The only reason the Zodiac Killer identified this location in Monticello was to reveal the name of Kathy, the namesake of Kathy Bilek - and the final clue to the identity of the murder victim portrayed in the Monticello Card. The Pines Card followed exactly the same pattern, with the punch-hole again falling over a memorial park and the name of an alleged murder victim - that of Donna Lass. When the Pines postcard is positioned over the Sierra Club of Clair Tappaan Lodge, the punch-hole falls exactly over the Donner Memorial State Park. The Zodiac Killer gave us a memorial to Kathy and Donna in both instances.

Picture
But was it really that simple? The Monticello clue - although it identified a burial site - was not the burial site of the young woman that the Monticello Card was designed around (that of Kathy Bilek). Moreover, it was a clue to the name of Kathy. The punch-hole in the Pines Card may equally have been designed to give us the name of Donna, but not specifically denoting where she was buried. So, let us take an in depth look at the March 22nd 1971 Pines Card.
Picture
You will notice that the wording "Sierra Club" has been inadvertently or deliberately pinned to the largest tree, as to mimic a "flagpole" or "starting point". Directly opposite (and of equal size to the pasted text) the Zodiac Killer has placed the punch-hole. When the center of Sierra Club on the flagpole is positioned over the Sierra Club of Clair Tappaan Lodge, with the postcard overlayed onto a map, the punch-hole on the right side drops nicely over the entrance to Donner Memorial State Park. But nobody in their right mind (even Zodiac) would have contemplated burying Donna Lass so close to Interstate 80 and the Donner Pass Road. As stated above, the killer would likely dispose of the body with the least chance of detection, away from the major roads, and probably alongside a hiking trail he was previously familiar with.

There is only one route that fits the criteria of "pass Lake Tahoe areas" that runs directly from the south side of Lake Tahoe where Donna Lass was abducted from (Sahara Tahoe Hotel & Casino), to the area of the Donner State Memorial Park. From the Sahara Tahoe Hotel & Casino, a direct route from the crime scene to remote wilderness, could be achieved by taking US Route 50 and California State Route 89. It is approximately 30 miles from the casino along the south and west side of the lake, to the area I have identified. Furthermore, the area is alongside the Pole Creek Trailhead - a hiking trail the Zodiac Killer may have been familiar with. This location sits directly over the crosshairs of Zodiac on the Pines Card. I have drawn a green line from the location of the punch-hole (Donner Memorial State Park) to the crosshairs on the Pines Card. This green line straddles California State Route 89, with the crosshairs falling a few hunded metres to the west of Route 89, by the Pole Creek Trailhead, along Pole Creek Road. Shown here on Google maps.
Picture
Picture
This is obviously an estimation to the possible burial site of Donna Lass, but when we "pass the Lake Tahoe areas" on the west side of the lake, this trailhead presents itself. The Zodiac Killer could exit California State Route 89 just past the Silver Creek Campground and travel a few hundred meters along Pole Creek Road. This area offers quick egress from the Sahara Tahoe Hotel & Casino via US Route 50 and California State Route 89, and into remote isolation in as little as 40 minutes. More importantly, the Zodiac crosshairs fell over this area when the Sierra Club of Clair Tappaan Lodge and Donner Memorial State Park were aligned with the Pines Card. The Zodiac Killer pasted "pass Lake Tahoe areas" and "Peek through the Pines" next to the Zodiac crosshairs, so it is rather fortunate that Pole Creek Road is just past the Lake Tahoe areas on the western edge, and forged between the pine trees of California State Route 89 (see below).

Wonderfully put together article,Richard, and asks many of the correct questions, that might put more light on the disappearance of Ms.Lass.

But who can deny, that a certain Zodiac site has recently uncovered a claim, complete with quite convincing photograph...by a serving [?] Tahoe policeman...that indicates that Donna Lass might be an ''Auntie Leslie from Sacramento''.

Difficult to concentrate on the ''fate'' of Ms.Lass, when this recent claim, remains hanging in the air [?].How on earth ''all hands'' aren't ordered to sort out this dilemma,''pronto''.....goodness only knows.

This ''same'' site has a perennial contributor who, claims to keep regular lunch dates, with ex-Zodiac investigator,Jerry Johnson....and understands some of the questions that Mr.Johnson might be able to shed light on....like the DMV letter mystery, the mystery of a library user at both Vallejo and Fairfield...and indeed, some more information on ''Dr.Adams''.

And yet,no forward movement,there....

This ''site'' could make a name for itself, once again,if only it knew what it's real priorities ''ought'' to be....in the best interests of the amateur masses, who take a keen interest [?].

Starting, with ensuring that,at least,''one'' truth about Ms.Lass is ''nailed down'',so that the rest of us can debate her possible involvement,in this ''Zodiac saga''.....or not.

I cannot deny their is a passing resemblance, but I am sure there are probably many other women you could find that look like an older Donna Lass. It is important to remember that nobody could give a convincing reason for a wilful disappearance by Donna Lass, particularly one orchestrated immediately after a long shift at work. She had also arranged to meet her friend that morning. The two women lined up alongside each other look similar, with the faces slightly tilted at a different angle, but the top of Donna Lass' ears are undoubtedly level with her eyebrows, whereas the older woman's ears are positioned significantly lower in her face.

Pertinent points,on observation,Richard.

One could though, venture that the slightest difference in camera angle, could make ''all'' the difference.

As presented,in the photograph,''The eyes have it'',as far as I can see,at present....with the mouth,fairly convincing,also.

A ''Site for sore eyes'' [?]....and I'm not talking about Ms.Lass or Auntie Leslie.

Time to make amends,or it's a case of a ''tailspin'' into the oblivion.

I am extremely doubtful that Donna Lass voluntarily vanished of her own accord. Leaving her new flat, vehicle and money in the bank is not the ideal start for a new life, especially with none of the details supporting such an action. Although disappearances aren't exclusively foul play, the overwhelming majority are, when the lifestyle is of similar nature to that of Donna Lass. People with family issues, money issues, infidelity, drug problems, involvement in prostitution and previous episodes of disappearing, tend to be high risk for upping sticks and beginning a new life. It is extremely rare when no issues seem apparent. It's not impossible that Donna Lass wilfully left, but the odds are slim at best - especially when we consider her circumstances and the time she vanished, nearing 2.00 am in the morning, with a friend visiting from San Francisco. I truly hope she is alive, but I rate that possibility as virtually zero.

Undoubedly ''truisms'' about the general circumstances of Ms.Lass.

It has been proposed that an ''insurance scam'' lay at the heart of this [?].

Not onverwhelmingly convincing,on first inspection. Two ''facts'' are that....Ms.Lass was in a profession [nursing],where ''vocation'' is usually associated. And yet....she had chosen an environment, more associated with the ''playboy'',in which to practise that profession.

Other factors, such as attractions to a completely new,and seemingly exciting lifestyle....might constitute ''temptation'' to become ''re-born''.

Rubislaw 32 link
9/7/2019 04:51:40 am

If we isolate what appears to be documented about the circumstances of Donna Lass,Richard.....then yes,it does seem to be a case of her probable ''unwitting'' abduction and unlawful death.

Is there any evidence of her family, having sought to have her, officially pronounced dead, for example [?].Has anyone ever tried to contact Donna's sister,Mary [?].

It does seem to me,on reading newspaper cuttings,in the wake of Donna's disappearance that, the papers almost ''introduced'' Ms.Lass, into a Zodiac ''narrative'',without great justification. As if,possibly,''encouraged'' to ''feed'' her,by senior law enforcement [?].

And then, there is the ''enigma'' of the Pines Card....arriving a bit ''late in the day'' [?].Into Spring of 1971...when the Zodiac's newspaper appearances, seemed to be tailing off.

And of course,as an alternative,to a previous ''Larry Kane'' inference, for many years....if we really go back to the very beginning of the Pines Card,it seems that investigating police, believe the links, were more connected to William Grant.

More recently,at this...your site,Richard...we find that Judith Hakari,is the only known Zodiac related victim....that was ''factually'' buried, and found,in a pines setting,similar....and that was at Weimar, where Marian and William Grant, had their weekend retreat.

As perhaps, icidental information, the Colfax Historical Society have yet to contact me,a second time, after a fortnight.

Initially,I was enquiring about the name of The Sierra Sun Cloud Inn,before 1989 [...could be the same name...].

I had deliberately kept the ''Z'' word out,so as not to possibly put them off [?].But if they get back to me,I will certainly ask about Judith Hakari's burial spot.

Either way,the subject matter might be the kiss of death [?].

These societies tend to exist to attracted the ''right'' sort of tourist.

They may even have a sign post,up [?].

''Ghouls not welcome''

Examine these events,if you will :

Judith Hakari's body discovered,Weimar,April 25th 1970

Zodiac's Button Letter,June 26th 1970 - 12 victims claimed

Zodiac's Little List Letter,July 26th 1970 - 13 victims claimed

Donna Lass' disappearance,September 6th 1970

--------------------

Now...The Pines Card arrives,in the public domain,March 22nd 1971

The Pines Card states 12 victims sought.

Therefore,The Pines Card infers 11 victims claimed.

-------------------

A ''revised'' order :

Judith Hakari's body discoverd,Weimar,April 25th 1970.

''Zodiac'' 's Pines Card [date ?] - 11 victims claimed.

Zodiac's Button Letter,June 26th 1970 - 12 victims claimed.

Zodiac's Little List Letter,July 26th 1970 - 13 victims claimed

Donna Lass' disappearance,September 6th 1970.

-------------------

I would suggest that,it appears ''more than'' persuasive that,the Zodiac mailed the Pines Card,''originally'',between Judith Hakari's body found,April 25th 1970.....and the Button Letter,June 26th 1970.

The Pines Card,was a 1962 issue Pre-Stamped envelope card.

Law Enforcement, for some reason [?],held the Pines Card back....then ''pushing'' the card into the public domain,March 22nd 1971.

And,ever since, there has been a ''misconception'' that the Pines Card, referred to Donna Lass...simply because of ''pass Lake Tahoe areas'',on the card.

The real inference is....that the Pines Card inferred Judith Hakari, who was found in a Pines setting shallow grave,April 25th 1970.

So....who was the ''Zodiac'' trying to blame ? Who had a place to stay,at Weimar, where Judith Hakari's body was discovered ?

The answer to this ''blame game''......is obvious.

Richard

That is an interesting proposition that the Pines Card was Judith Hakari driven, however, unless you can find an advertisement for Forest Pines Condominiums between April 25th 1970 and June 26th 1970 in which Zodiac used "Peek through the pines", or one existed then, we are left speculating. It's a good idea nevertheless. This is the advertisement it is believed Zodiac used for the Pines Card currently. March 19th 1971 San Francisco Chronicle.

Richard - Looking at that advertisement for Forest Pines Condominiums there in the small print.

The attractive "Tree Trunk" gray buildings which barely "peek through the pines"

I wonder if anyone has checked for human remains around those particular gray buildings?

Richard
9/7/2019 09:56:30 am

The only thing I know BB was "Harvey Hines believed the punch-hole in the top right corner of the Pines Card may have indicated a burial site or at least revealed key information to the disappearance of Donna Lass. An area near Clair Tappaan Lodge, Norden, California, on Sierra Club grounds was identified, where a rock configuration of 13 stones were positioned in the form of a cross. This area had initially been discovered by Otto Fredericks while out hiking in 1976 and revealed to Hines several years later. Harvey Hines informed Zodiac expert Dave Peterson, and an excavation the site was undertaken, but no remains were found".

The advertisement was at Forest Pines, however, so my guess is that they would have checked the area at Incline Village for disturbed soil.

Certainly ''ponderables'',Richard.A perhaps ''strange'' coincidence that both Judith Hakari and Donna Lass, were both nurses [?].

One wonders if nursing was quite a ''plentiful'' profession,in those days, for young women, with a ''decent'' High School education....but no more than this [?].Nursing and Kindergarten teachers, maybe.

By 1969,tertiary education had only really opened up,for young women, for about 10 years. And,of course, young women still had a ''ways to go'' competing with men,for jobs that paid ''more than'' decent wages.

Cheri Jo Bates was securing a decent education for herself, when murdered. But all she ever dreamed of....was becoming an Air Hostess [!].Because it was considered ''glamorous''.

With regards to the Pines Card....I believe it serves as,yet another probability, that law enforcement, were up to ''jiggery pokery'',wherever the opportunity presented itself.

If the Zodiac didn't realize,by then, that law enforcement were just going to sit back, and take what he,a murderous extortionist, was throwing at them....then he was bigger fool, than ''we'' might perceive.

Of course....the Zodiac wasn't a fool....and for the most part,quite smart.But,how he didn't run out of luck,by continuing his,often,childish stunts....heaven only knows.

I think that law enforcement just couldn't keep on top of him, each and every day...and the Zodiac often caught them,by surprise.

I think real zodiac was someone else and Kane did lass and sent in pines card to throw off suspicion on him. What if he liked the attention and killed stine for proof he was killer but really wasn't - annoying real z. What IF they did actually know each other (from albany) and the reward poster - was a message to him from real z. If they both had code training maybe letters were messages to each other or just one way... I think the unsolved ciphers were not meant for police....

...for those school educated women, that didn't want to be ''typist pool'' secretaries,of course.

Fitting with the possible use of the Pines Card, and Monticello as overlays, Randall Clemons has done extensive research and writings on the use of a Zodiac produced overlay relative to the Phillips 66 Map.

9/8/2019 03:06:03 am

Richard...I've just read up a little more,on Donna Lass' initial disappearance.

Naturally, many things ''don't'' appear to add up....but that could just be skepticism....given a scenario now, where it does seem possible that Donna is still alive.

Apparently,Donna was a very tidy person, and lived in a small flat, which was ''tied'' to her employment,as a nurse. Not long after her disappearance, her sister [...Mary [?]..],and Mary's son turned up,at her small flat,to pick up her possessions, and her newly acquired car. Then drove back to Mary's home [....as a two car convoy...],in South Dakota.

It seems that she was on good terms with Mary....but her relationship with her mother, was ''tenuous'' [....possibly non-approval of Donna's lifestyle [?]....]

I'm giving up,on the Colfax Historical Society, unless they get back to me...and looking at approaching the Donna Lass ''enigma'',from a ''Hakari murder'' angle, with ''someone'' linked to the Sacramento Bee.

It is possible [...though possibly remote [?]...] that Donna Lass got herself in trouble over a scam, like ''insurance''...and cut a deal with LE,involving changing her identity, and moving. With just a few, such as her sister Mary, knowing the truth.

Then LE ''used'' this situation,to create another victim [Lass],with which to pin on the Zodiac,by ''inference''.

And that,as I have previously inferred, that the Pines Card was actually originally sent, circa May 1970.....with a view, from the Zodiac,to pin blame on William Grant, for Judith Hakari's murder.

Of course, neither the Zodiac, nor Grant...had anything to do with Judith Hakari...or indeed,Donna Lass. The Pines Card was always ''just'' about the Zodiac attempting to set up Grant [...once again [?]..].

I was wondering,Richard....this ''Feb 1st'' date,on the original ''show day'' poster for the new Chalet Estate.Is it possible that,it referred to Feb 1st 1970.....then ''re-hashed'',as Feb 1st 1971 ?

If the Zodiac had put together that Pines Card, circa May 1970...say,a month following the discovery of Judith Hakari's body,at Weimar, then,as you have pointed out...he would have required the graphics ''raw materials'' from that ''Show day''' poster,or similar.

Richard
9/8/2019 05:22:01 am

Remember, the "Peek through through the Pines" cutting wasn't taken from the advertisement containing February 12th, because on that advertisement "peek" wasn't capitalized. The cutting was from the March 19th 1971 San Francisco Chronicle. The advertisement to which you refer stated "Friday, Feb. 12", and February 12th 1970 was a Thursday. To get this card being designed after Hakari's murder and June 26th 1970, its imperative we know this advertisement existed in the first part of 1970. This is the major stumbling block to this theory. It's an interesting notion to attempt to place "sought victim 12" in its rightful place, but we need to earlier advertisement, if one existed at all. Somebody with a newspapers.com account could trawl the newspapers in your relevant period, but without any corroboration to an earlier advertisement, it will remain up in the air.

Thanks for your advice, and correction.as '' Feb 12th '' [...I think my eyesight is going...].

I think I'll stick with trying to get ''interest'' with someone,at the ''Bee'',which hopefully, will be reciprocated in an interest in Donna Lass,as well as Judith Hakari [....when the reality is,that I am more interested in the Pines Card..].

But,whatever ''extra'' can be brought to light....all the better [?].

My worries now,is that everything will come to a full stop, with the Tahoe detective.A scenario, perhaps, where he gets ''orders from above'',to ''stall'' anything threatening an ''uncovering'',which might include evidence that LE were trying to pin the blame for Donna's disappearance,on the Zodiac.

Then,''we'd'' know that the Pines Card was authentic Zodiac [?].

Probably.

Rubislaw 32 link
9/8/2019 03:26:27 am

....it's beginning to look like, that ''that'' photograph could be Donna Lass, age about 40,in the mid-eighties.The photograph has been handed in to a Tahoe detective,by Donna's nephew,Mr.Powers.

And further that...Donna Lass has been in a ''witness program'' all these years, having given evidence against criminal activity, that went on,while she was working,as a nurse.

So...her disappearance was ''staged'',and she changed her identity, and residency, with the assistance of LE.

This situation could put the detective from Tahoe,in an uncomfortable position.Particularly if her nephew,Mr.Powers will not give up,on the story.....with rumours already,of a book coming out.

What a potential ''shambles'' [?].

Richard

Place Donna Lass' photograph in an age progression tool online and make a comparison.

Rubislaw 32 link
9/8/2019 03:55:58 am

......and,in addition....Tahoe 27 is now claiming that ''this same'' Tahoe detective, was involved as an advisor,in the dreadful History Channel TV docu-drama,for the ''Donna Lass search'' sequence [!].

It all seems to be turning into a ''nightmare'' [?].

Richard
9/8/2019 05:56:07 am

The "Peek through the Pines" cutting used by the Zodiac was not only cut as one whole piece, but had a capitalized "P". Could you imagine the chances in finding these four words together, with a capitalized "P" by trawling through endless newspapers. Therefore, the March 19th 1971 San Francisco Chronicle seems the certain choice.

http://i67.servimg.com/u/f67/14/97/36/88/peek_t10.jpg

The preview opening advertisement containing Feb 12 (shown above) was obviously an earlier advertisement, because the follow up advertisement {shown below) states "now open" with cost prices and dated 19th March in the Chronicle.

http://i67.servimg.com/u/f67/14/97/36/88/peekth10.jpg

If Zodiac took "Peek through the pines" from the March 19th 1971 article (which clearly he did), then the Forest Pines at Incline was "now open". We know the preview was on February 12th 1971, therefore the advertisement that Zodiac took "Peek through the pines" from, was after the preview, taken from the advertisement declaring the site open. The Incline development opened after February 12th, therefore Zodiac couldn't have taken the phrase any earlier than February 12th. To do so, he has to find the phrase "Peek through the pines" some 9 months earlier, in some random newspaper, containing the capitalized "P" in the same phrase. And for the advertisement even to have existed then. The path of least resistance suggests this is much more of a stretch than the simple answer, that he cut it from the Chronicle three days before he mailed the Pines Card.

Richard
9/8/2019 06:12:49 am

Also, with a staged disappearance, it brings into play the December 1974 Christmas Card to her sister. If she was still alive, it puts a whole different slant on "Best Wishes, St Donna & Guardian of the Pines".

Richard
9/8/2019 06:17:12 am

In Christianity, the word "saint" refers to any person who is "in Christ", and in whom Christ dwells, whether in Heaven or in earth.[1] Orthodox Christians and Catholics teach that all Christians in Heaven are saints, but some are worthy of more honor than others.

Rubislaw 32 link
9/8/2019 06:30:49 am

Yes...there seems to be some consensus now...that the card might even have been written by Donna,herself...as a sort of ''thank you'',to her sister.

Rubislaw 32 link

Certainly take your points,here,Richard.

Apparently ''Peek through the pines'' was used, verbally,by Vallejo Police, when carrying out surveillance on Grant....but it seems dificult to imagine the expression, ending up,in print, alternatively [?].

If it was found that Donna Lass had been in a witness protection program....there will be some ''red faces'',one might think. And ''just'' how much ''unravelling'' it will cause, remains to be seen....if ever.

I can see a satisfactory ''resolution'' isn't going to happen,in the short term...if it does,or whatever it might be [?].

Founded around 1884,its official population is about 9,000.Situated about a half mile from Crystal Bay.It has a had a College, since 1969,with reputable library [..Zodiac attraction to visit [?]...].The College is mostly known for Alpine Skiing....to Olympic standard.

It could be a ''Corgi'' Mini-Book series, called ''Your Lucky Stars.Day-by-Day Forecasts.

They look to be the size of an average magazine, and were Day-by-Day forecasts, covering six months. Therefore issued twice a year [?].
Priced at 50cents in 1968/1969...about the same price as ''expensive-end'' magazines, like ''Playboy''.

''Corgi'',as in the toy cars manufacturer.

My only question regarding the Pines Card Rubislaw, is if Zodiac had no hand in the disappearance or murder of Donna Lass, then wouldn't we expect a straightforward communication claiming he murdered her. What was the purpose of making a card with directions and a punch-hole, other than watch idiots like me waste hours on end. My point being, he added five phrases, including "Sierra Club" and fashioned the punch-hole. If he had no idea of where she was buried and wasn't involved at all, why would he go to all the effort, as opposed to just creating a Kathleen Johns style letter. The Monticello card pointed to Monticello where "Kathy" was buried at Oak Hill Memorial Park, which matched the name of Kathy Bilek. Kathy Snoozy was also a victim he had previously claimed. Here we have Donner Memorial Park (again implying the name Donna + park + memorial). He hadn't murdered either Snoozy or Bilek, so it's perfectly possible that the Pines Card was just a game also. Was he seeing if anybody could crack its puzzle. Both cards were obviously similarly designed, and if he didn't murder Bilek (which we know he didn't) then isn't it logical to believe he didn't kill and bury Donna Lass also. There is an extremely remote chance, that just suppose I was correct, and the area by Pole Creek Road was the location intended, that he didn't bury Lass there (because he didn't murder her), but placed something else at that location in 1971 to taunt the police. But obviously his clues weren't followed up at the time.

''That'' could be the publication, for Day-by-Day forecasts [?].

The Zodiac liked model making and he liked cars.....so would browse and shop,at these sorts of shops.

Then just happened to come across the publication, when there was a renewed interest in the stars, with the ''Space Race'' [?].

I'll check out the official ''Corgi'' site.

You can make it a double this year Rubislaw, if you find the origin of a second communication. Astrology was likely rampant in the 1960s, early 1970s, so the list could be endless.

Well, there's always ''hope'',Richard....if any readers should wish to type up ''Scorpio Day-by-Day Forecasts on E-Bay'',as an access to ''images'',then you should see the cover to the Corgi series issue, for the one,the year before, the one that the Zodiac might have employed, for the two December 1969 cards.

Might have to do some ''loitering'' at these ''buy and sell'' sites, again.

These are well thought out ideas, about the motivation, behind the various cards,Richard.

Indeed...always a struggle to pin him down definitively, and much of what you put forward, has good reason,to be correct.

Two things that come to mind is....that I think that the Zodiac realized quite soon, that he had been ''turned over'',and ''suckered in'' over the Kathleen Johns abduction, for which the actual act,he was innocent. Therefore more on his mettle about letting it happen, again [?].

But,of course,he couldn't resist correspondence extorting....because of a compulsion inside him,to express himself in writing.

Yes...do believe,so far at least, that the Zodiac had nothing to do with Donna Lass....but still could have brought to bear Judith Hakari's grave discovery, into the inferences,on the Pines Card.

I hadn't realized how exclusive,Incline Village is/was....and if The Zodiac had felt inclined to visit it [...much like Carmel, perhaps [?]...].then he might have picked up promotion stuff, like the graphics to that new development, while on a visit.

These extortionists are notorious scavengers and pilferers, after all.

I think that the ''hole'' in the card...is mean't to be the Sun....and no more, than this....as in,peeking with caution [?].

But of course,''mere'' ruminations,at this stage.

With the Pines Card,my recent ''astonishment'',if you will,is that the ''Pre-Stamped Envelope Card'' was 1962 issue.

After ''falling folly'' to the enticement ''offered'',to accept the Johns abduction,as ''one of his''....the Zodiac, almost immediately, fell into the trap of sending the Pines Card.An item of mail, that was like ''Manna from Heaven'' for the FBI's counter intelligence. For,counter intelligence could ''squirrel it away'',and ''save lt for a rainy day''.

Had I not read up,on Black Extremist FBI Files.....I probably wouldn't have appreciated,to what lengths, that counter intelligence were prepared to go,in their ''war'' on an chosen ''enemy''.

And,by that time [...the Spring of 1970...],it would seem that counter intelligence had decided to take the Zodiac on,as a recognized enemy.

I suspect that, even the arrogance in the Zodiac, hadn't initially prepared him,for being likened to a ''laboratory specimen'',by covert agencies of LE.

I believe that the Zodiac ''received the message'' pretty quickly, with the Johns abduction...but didn't absorb the full impact of sending a 1962 issue, piece of mail [Pines Card]....for another year.

And ''now'',in the Spring of 1971....the Zodiac had found himself, being publicly accused of the possible murder of Donna Lass.

Or,so it might seem.

This ''push'',Richard,to promote the idea that Donna Lass is still alive....or,at least, was alive as a 40 year old,in the mid-eighties,is coming from two ''sisters'',that appear to be acting on behalf of a ''Mr.Powers''....who seems to be ''a'' nephew of Donna Lass.

There does seem to be aspects to this ''promotion'',that could be construed as ''dodgy''.Not least, that it wears a ''two-pronged crown'',as in the case of ''The Green Manhalishi''.

To be more specific...that a further inference is,that the father of Donna Lass...or this lady, aged 40,in the mid-eighties,is the ''sometime'' touted Zodiac suspect,Kenneth Lester German.

Personally,I would estimate that the feedback,as to likeness that the photograph seems to reveal....is about 65% in favour of it representing Donna Lass. But one does wonder why,the matter has not been taken up,by any of the newspapers,so far....and why approach a site, that has not seen the best of times, recently [?].

These two sisters may have appeared to have behaved themselves, with dignity,so far.But I can reveal that, one of the sisters recently posted,as a guest,at ''ZKM'',and accused the members of all being ''brain dead''.Hardly a ''welcoming'' introduction,to themselves [?].

It will certainly be interesting to see,how it all pans out.

At the moment all we have is a photograph and a bunch of claims. The motto in these cases should be, if the insinuation is that Donna Lass was alive around the 80s or onwards, supply the evidence. There is such a thing as DNA. It's no different than me claiming I was Zodiac working under an alias with a computer. Bold claims requires bold evidence, not a side-by-side picture. Hell, half of all men alive in 1969 looked like the Presidio Heights sketch, but it means diddly-squat.

I am not Phillip’s sister I was asked to help by Phillip himself. I hired him a few years ago and I apologize for the Brain Dead comment. I was frustrated and it was unacceptable.

It is nice of you to contact Richard's site,Apple Florez, and respect to you for offering an apology to the ''ZKM'' site.

The implications so far, that you and your sister, are acting on behalf of Phillip Powers, and not that you are necessarily related to Mr.Powers [?].

Naturally, there is a fair number of Zodiac enthusiasts, that have taken an interest,in the photograph of a 40 year old woman,in the mid 1980's.....that bears a likeness to Donna Lass.

Recently,at this site,we have been discussing the disappearance of Ms.Lass.And,in particular,The Zodiac's presumed ''Pines Card'',that might refer to that disappearance.

There is however, certain controversy over the possibility that the ''Pines Card'' may actually refer,by inference to Judith Hakari....a nurse,also...who was murdered about 6 months before Ms.Lass.

It does seem to me,that you should be considering, approaching The Sacramento Bee newspaper, over the information that you have accumulated,so far [?].

The Sacramento Bee,historically, have taken an interest in ''both'' the murder of Judith Hakari ''and'' the disappearance of Donna Lass.

Any further comments that you might wish to make here,at this site,Apple Florez.....would be most appreciated.

I am sure that others join me,in wishing you the best,in attempting to have this set of circumstances,resolved....and as soon as possible.

Look forward to hearing from you, again.

I concur. With Presidio Heights,my list of ''ridiculous claims'',include the genuine suggestions,of Jerry Garcia,Raymond Burr's identical twin brother [...did he have one ?...],and Kjelle Qvale.

But maybe Qvale's dalmation,''Rex'',should still be in the mix ?

Rex never was able to ''assist police with their enquiries''.
