ONCE UPON A TIME.....

2/1/2019

Unless something extremely important surfaces in the coming weeks, this will be the final installment regarding the 1974 communications, and the distinct possibility that none were authored by the Zodiac Killer - effectively stripping just over three years from his perceived reign of terror. Changing this perception will inevitably generate fierce resistance from the hierarchy of 'Zodiac researchers', who have built a comfortable and reinforced narrative over the last fifty years. This has been my experience with many aspects of the Zodiac case, and the S.L.A letter is just another example of circumnavigating the truth to keep a lie afloat. Faced with tearing a chapter from a prized book, will certainly galvanize the mind into sailing around the facts and ultimately create an alternative reality. It started when Tom Voigt unwittingly announced a new Zodiac letter on his website, labelled the S.L.A letter - mailed on February 14th 1974 and postmarked "unknown". Neither of which are true. Unfortunately however, nearly everybody has embraced this narrative, and will likely carry on believing it, no matter the truth.

The S.L.A letter was postmarked "U.S. Postal Service, CA 913 PM 3 FEB 1974". This tells you unequivocally that the S.L.A letter was mailed from Los Angeles County, and was likely posted on February 2nd or February 3rd - a day or two before the Patricia Hearst kidnapping by the Symbionese Liberation Army, on February 4th 1974.
Picture
What you will be told by the 'narrative keepers' is that a postmark is not visible on the S.L.A envelope, despite its obvious nth generation appearance. However, what they won't tell you - is they must therefore believe that the two FBI files have been created with malintent. They must believe the FBI files have simply been manufactured - just purposely created to deceive - despite the fact the general public had no access to them. Regardless of the fact that the Zodiac Killer mailed nearly all of his communications from San Francisco, the FBI (according to the doubters of a February 3rd postmark) must have apparently sat round a table and concocted both of these files, including the date and origin of the mailing. The idea that the FBI just chose, or 'plucked from thin air' the February 3rd 1974 date and zip code 913, from Los Angeles County, even though the Zodiac Killer had never mailed a correspondence from this location before, would be patently absurd. The 'narrative keepers' have two choices: If they have a book heavily reliant on a February 14th 1974 mailing, possibly involving a suspect, they can [1] Admit they are wrong and rewrite the chapter, or [2] Kill the messenger and destroy the credibility of the evidence presented. I think you know which number they will choose. This deliberate massaging of the facts to keep a narrative on track rears its ugly head throughout the Zodiac scene, evidently demonstrated in the Robert Graysmith Zodiac book, riddled with contradiction. Many have put faith in a DNA resolution to this case in the near future. But does anybody believe this will result in a mass book burning orgy by renowned Zodiac researchers, finally admitting their passionate fervor was flawed, or another round of circumnavigating reality? For many, the answer is set in stone and nothing will steer them away from the impervious cocoon they have built for themselves.

I hope that the 'narrative keepers' maintain a February 14th 1974 mailing for the S.L.A letter, because then they have to explain how the Zodiac Killer reappeared after nearly three years of hibernation, to then write a letter about the Symbionese Liberation Army, beginning the correspondence with "Dear" and ending with "a friend", only four days after the actual Symbionese Liberation Army mailed a letter (not publicized) to the Hearst family on February 10th 1974, beginning the correspondence with "Dear" and ending with "A friend". Now that is one hell of a coincidence.
Picture
Then we take a look at the Exorcist letter, mailed on January 29th 1974, which hopefully was not doctored by the FBI.
Kevin Robert Brooks created an extremely credible solution to the Exorcist letter symbols in the form of the words "To Kill". In view of the preceding paragraph, his solution is incredibly convincing: "If I do not see this note in your paper, I will do something nasty, which you know I'm capable of doing. To Kill". Whether this is the answer or not, it is certainly a powerful argument, when we consider the S.L.A letter was entirely geared to giving us the word "Kill". This seemed the only purpose behind the S.L.A communication - as though the letter was designed to give us an answer. The fact that the Exorcist letter symbols were withheld from the January 31st 1974 San Francisco Chronicle publication, may have been the inspiration for the February 3rd 1974 correspondence. It was certainly very fortunate that "Kill" could even be created by the symbols at all, and subsequently highlighted in quotation marks, a matter of days later.
Picture
Picture
After the February 10th 1974 Hearst letter, ending with "A friend", another Symbionese Liberation Army communication quickly followed (shown above). Both were intercepted at the Burlingame, California, U.S. Postal Annex and both were addressed to Santa Inez Avenue in Hillsborough. The February 10th letter was postmarked CA 940 - so could have been mailed from Burlingame in San Mateo County, or Santa Clara County. The February 11th letter was postmarked Palo Alto, CA 943. Palo Alto is situated in the northwest region of Santa Clara County. Just shy of two weeks earlier, the Exorcist letter was mailed to the San Francisco Chronicle, postmarked CA 940. The FBI determined that the Exorcist letter was mailed from either San Mateo County or Santa Clara County, just like the two letters above. Probably another coincidence?

Another consideration ''for the pot'',Richard.

On May 23rd 1974,President Richard Nixon received a picture postcard.

The card had been posted in Oregon, with zip code starting ''974''.

[.....note,that the ''North Hollywood Hoaxer'' is suspected,as having resided at ''Canoga Park'',owning a vehicle with Oregon Licence Plates...]

The message,was as follows :

''Dear King,we know where Patty Hearst is,but wait till we get your daughter.A concerned citizen for freedom ! ''

Clearly, the scribe is referring to Patricia Nixon, eldest daughter of Richard and Pat Nixon.

Another ''father'' threatened...to go alongside Joseph Bates,Randolph Hearst and George Webster [?].

Perhaps,the postscript,at the end of Brigadier General Matrix's letter,of September 20th 1975,which read : '' Pat Mac Jew '',represents....

'' Patricia Nixon Robert McNamara Stanley Kubrick ''

Ref : HEARNAP File 32,Pages 90 - 92.

I see the "concerned citizen" is rearing its ugly head again. Can you make out the picture Rubislaw-must be the rural Oregon mountainside. The style of the card has traits of Zodiac style within it, although it looks like much of the S.L.A correspondence too, and it's timing is bisecting the Badlands and Red Phantom communications. Certainly another one for the pot, as you say. Don't show this to the History Channel guy-he'd love the Richard Nixon link.

Yes,its interesting,about the date,coming 15 days after the ''A citizen card''.I think I have seen references to another ''Nixon'' card,with ''Tricky Dicky'' employed....which I will look out,for.

Just good to prise this information, for possible future assessment [?].If the ''North Hollywood Hoaxer'' was the man with Oregon Licence Plates...then it was a simple and cunning psychological trick,to fool Highway Cops,on his travels....so that he would usually, always be told ''to move on'',without checking,if traffic holdups.

Yes,Richard...I've looked at the postcard picture....and difficult to assess. What I believe it to be,is an old fashioned wagon,in the foreground,of a picturesque setting. In effect, the ''cliched'' tourist's photo,of the ''Oregon Trail''.

We might see a possible link, here, with the 1990 Celebrity Cypher [?].In that case, the picture was driftwood washed up,on an exotic beach...giving imagery of the Zodiac, now residing in ''Paradise''.

The Zodiac did tend to like to offer ''something extra'',with his words.Whether it be,a cipher, puzzle or picture...or even,a bloodied piece of shirt [.. !! ...].

Rubislaw 32 link
2/2/2019 02:44:18 am

Perhaps a minor detail, with the ''A Citizen'' card....but I have to admit, that I had to look up the precise definition,of the word ''blurb''.

It is a brief assessment of the contents,of a specific book, which doesn't give anything away, regarding what the potential reader,is about to read.

This word [blurb],is only something that ''book worms'' would be all too readily aware,of...I would suggest [?].

I ''like'' the address,on that postcard,sent to Richard Nixon,Richard.

If,anyone notices,it is written as : ''White'' House.

As opposed to any other ''colour'',perhaps [?]....like ''Black'',for instance.

A small anecdote, about Nixon, the day after he had given away, his daughter,Patricia's,hand in marriage.

Probably, quite rightfully,he was bemoaning the wedding's press coverage, and had focused on a particular newspaper editor,to his personal adviser,Bob Haldeman.

The conversation concluded,as follows :

Nixon : Is he [..the editor..] Jewish ?

Haldeman : I don't know.....he doesn't look it.

The quotation marks apparent on three of the four 1974 letters. Something prior to this, the Zodiac never did. We might disagree on the authorship of the 1974 letters Rubislaw, but an important feature nonetheless. I think your interpretation of "white" is probably correct.

Just on an overview of the HEARNAP files...one can see the FBI,in the main, were about investigating known members [...approximately 440 in the whole of the USA...],of the SLA,and those,in particular, that might have played a part,in the kidnapping of Patty Hearst.

The hoaxers started getting in the way,of investigations....and the FBI,clearly had to attempt to distinguish genuine communication, from faked.

It seems that some of these hoaxers went to extraordinary lengths,to appear genuine SLA.Some of them ''vitually'' taking a crash course in self learning political philosophy,at their local libraries.

If we assume,or at least suspect that the Zodiac ''wanted an in'' of some sort,on this ''world news event''....then it is a case of trying to establish, what of the HEARNAP files, might belong to him.

A coupe more ''possibles''...but really on handwriting persuasion, seem to appear in File 36,and might be worth, taking a look.

Pages 472 - 477 offer up,some interesting writing.Included is a note,that reads :

'' Today the elephant fights the elephant.To-morrow the elephant will be disemboweled.[sic] ''. --- Ho ---

Could be ''Ho Chi Minh'' [?].But,I've yet to see it attributed to him.

There is also,a car rental receipt, that simply has the word ''Weltenschaung'' [sic],written on it,that looked quite Zodiac persuasive.

The word should be ''Weltanschauung''.It is German...meaning ''world view''.

So,some hoaxers would even write down ''big words'' that they found,to make them appear sophisticated [...no doubt [?]...].

German ''long words'' immediately come to mind,in some of the hoaxing, attributed to the ''North Hollywood Hoaxer'',in his typed letters to Sammy Davis Jnr.,Harland Danders and Randolph Hearst.

But,more along the lines of puerile subject matter, pertaining to the Nazis and SS.

Similar to what tabloid journalists,in England, have been accused of,many times,in the past.

There is only one clear reason for SLA in my opinion. He was telling us to consider acronyms, and this possibly relates well to the idea of initials in a name. All else is just speculation leading everywhere but ultimately nowhere.

Rubislaw 32 link
2/3/2019 05:25:43 pm

Some more information on the ''North Hollywood Hoaxer'' :

His ''The General'' letters had been sent to Nevada and California.

His ''The Admiral'' letters had been sent to California.

His ''Red Chief'' letters had been sent to California.

And...his ''The Sorcerer'' correspondences were sent to New York and Oregon.

As follows,for ''The Sorcerer'' :

''Cella's Confectioners'',in New York,a letter. This company was owned by Real Estate businessman, and thoroughbred horse owner,Charles Cella.

A Real Estate company,in Oregon,an electronic message,which manifested itself,on a teleprinter.Possibly,a company owned by Cella [?].

A letter to ''Esquire'' magazine's editor,in New York.''Esquire'' was started in 1933,and has always been owned by the Hearst Corporation.

So,it looks like,''The Sorcerer'' 's targets [ The ''North Hollywood Hoaxer''],were Charles Cella and Randolph Hearst.

I will see if I can find a link....possibly,owners of racehorses [?].

[...Mr.M.Rodelli would be excited [?]....]

Rubislaw 32 link
2/3/2019 05:54:40 pm

The Hearsts and the Cellas, were both Arab Horse breeders,so it likely the two families moved in the same ''High Society'' circles.

And,perhaps,the ''North Hollywood Hoaxer'',knew this [?].

Perhaps, further of interest was, that William Randolph Hearst, was known as ''The Wizard of Ooze'',in press circles,on account of his trademark form of journalism.

Real Estate,The Imperial Wizard,''R.A.''.....could put,yet another slant on the ''concocted'' personal ad,taken out,on August 26th 1976,in the SF Chronicle.

My Name Is Mine

I am sure someone could formulate a neat little theory around this real estate and racing industry theme, because as we know, Edward Friendly, a victim in the infamous Friendly Murder case in Palm Springs, was at one time a San Francisco race track entrepreneur and was also former owner of Tanforan Race Track, where some of Edward’s own thoroughbreds had raced.

I have always thought the SLA letter was simply, from the SLA.

Good example with the typed letter, Richard.

My Name Is Mine
2/4/2019 04:29:47 pm

Why would SLA send out a letter to remind the cops that SLA means Symbionese Liberation Army? They already knew that! :-) So if SLA sent the letter, their point would have been pointless.

The obvious thing is somebody else sent that letter in order to make a point, and I very much doubt it had anything to do with SLA. The only point we can infer is that the sender was wanting to conceptualize the idea of acronyms - i.e. how single letters can relate to words.

Tahoe27
2/4/2019 11:59:46 pm

The letter was to the Editor.

It was actually to reiterate that those initials were also an old Norse word that meant "kill". Maybe the Editor was unaware.

Zodiac was all about himself. The SLA was wanting their own notoriety, imo.

My Name Is Mine
2/5/2019 02:33:32 am

Grates with me. The obscurity of the statement is not like SLA. They were always direct about their demands. They may say "we will kill if our demands are not met". This letter just says "to kill". This is Zodiac's M.O. to a capital "T" IMHO, because he is wanting us to take notice of the SLA in the center of his Slaves-Paradise cross symbol. He even wrote it in such a way that it can form the words SLAY and SLAV. This was a legitimate Zodiac communication IMHO.

Richard
2/5/2019 03:18:31 am

I find the idea of the Zodiac returning after 3 years and just happening to write a letter about the S.L.A one day before the Hearst kidnapping by the S.L.A too hard to swallow.

My Name Is Mine
2/5/2019 04:08:47 am

There are such things as coincidence in this world. SLA had been in the news a long time before then. Anyway it is Zodiac's handwriting in my opinion. I doubt if Zodiac was ever a member of SLA or had anything to do with them, but then again, who knows, maybe he was? Nobody knows who Zodiac was, so just about everything can be ruled out on the basis of lack of evidence and speculation relating to dates and times. At least we know the letter with a piece of Stine's shirt must have been sent by Zodiac, unless we believe Horan that it was all some elaborate conspiracy to deceive us all and someone cut up the shirt in the morgue? If it comes to a question of belief then I prefer to believe the SLA communication was written by Zodiac and had nothing to do with Hearst or SLA. So it is case closed on that one for me! That writing on the envelope is definitely Zodiac's handwriting IMO.

Richard, it is interesting that the two words "sla" "ves" in old Nordic can be translated literally together as something like "be you struck down". Also slaves were called "thrall" (þræll, þēow) in Old Norse terminology. All of the genuine Zodiac communications suggest the writer had an alliterative obsession with the "th" digraph and to a lesser extent with the "thr" trigraph, and we already know about his obsession with keeping his victims as slaves for his afterlife, which fits well with old Nordic belief systems. There is such a thing as linguistic fingerprinting too.

Rubislaw 32 link

Nice to see you make an appearance,Tahoe 27.

Without really needing to point out the obvious, the ''SLA Letter'' has been officially authenticated,by the FBI and CA DOJ.And,it is on this basis, that we discuss whether the letter ''is'' what the FBI and CA DOJ claim it to be.

The Zodiac's SLA letter, and the typed one, featured here, share the same ''913'' posting area,as well as both signed ''A friend''.

Enough, then,to at least explore the notion, that they might be,by the hand of the Zodiac,as well as ''might'' be,by the hand of the SLA,themselves.

The ''The General'' letters, sent to Harland Sanders and Sammy Davis Jnr.,are,by a host of clues, not least, identical typewriter imperfections,by the the same hand,as letters sent to Charles Cella,Randolph Hearst,Hewlett Packard,The Oakland Tribune,The SF Examiner, and The Transport Manager,in Hong Kong.

This ''913'' from the North Hollywood vicinity,is even documented,as suspected to be one person, residing at Canoga Park, and owning a vehicle, with Oregon Licence Plates,at that time.

The HEARNAP FBI files, demonstrate claimed official SLA correspondence,as well as a multitude of hoaxed letters.

''Options'',then, are certainly worth exploring [?]....including the ''North Hollywood Hoaxer'' being the Zodiac, himself.

Rubislaw 32 link
2/4/2019 03:37:49 am

Just on a matter of the hoaxers,themselves,Richard....in reading through the FBI files, one does begin to wonder,if any of them were exposed....and even prosecuted [?].

I have just come across the case of ''Walter Scott'',who was the brother of a prominent SLA member,Jack Scott.[....and not someone who adopted the name of the famous Scottish author...].

I see now, that Walter Scott was exposed,as a hoaxer,at Patty Hearst's trial. He was continually bombarding the Houston Police, over a period of time, with ''disinformation'' and claiming to know some SLA members personally.

I doesn't even look likely, that Walter's brother was aware of his hoaxing.

It does seem that,in cases of this magnitude, such as the Patty Hearst kidnapping, and SLA activity,in general, that the police and FBI haven't got the time or resources,to prioritise hoaxing, for investigation....unless,as in the case of Walter Scott,or,to an extent the ''North Hollywood Hoaxer'',their input becomes ''all too'' pervasive.

And,so it would seem,at the time....unlike Walter Scott, the ''North Hollywood Hoaxer'' never was exposed....or,at least,to the public's knowledge.

Once a major case is cracked,it also seems to be the case that, the authorities are not inclined to chase up all these hoaxers...particularly,if they did not ''overly'' harm anyone.

What they call,''Not in the Public's interests'',I believe [?].

It is always possible that,a chance to nab the Zodiac,''went a begging'',with the Hearst case.....simply because,he was not the ''Main Event''.

Rubislaw 32 link
2/4/2019 12:43:14 pm

Yes,it appears that ''Jack Scott'' was given the responsibility,by the SLA,to move Patty Hearst, from ''safe house'' to ''safe house'',whenever required.

Litlle did he realize that, his brother ''Walter'',was doing some investigations,of his own,and reporting this,to the Houston Police. But,most of it was made up,since Walter wasn't really making any inroads [...for reward money [?]..]....since the FBI were monitoring Walter, without his knowledge, anyway.

One can see, perhaps, that hoaxers like the ''North Hollywood'' weren't quite,in the same league.

And,if Randolph Hearst didn't have enough troubles,to contend with, with Patty....another of his daughters [Anne],was arrested at the height of the saga....having been found to be bringing large quantities of illegal drugs, into the country, from Canada, with her boyfriend.

I wonder if Texans were walking around, with wry smiles,at that time [?].

Richard has presented us with a very valuable lesson. The matter of a different day in a month can have a profound effect on narratives and the ability for some theories to remain cohesive and stay afloat.

People really should not write books about Zodiac unless they are prepared to be constantly issuing corrections and new editions, or defending your original thesis by constantly twisting the bounds of logic.

Authors would be far better off creating a web page. That way they can simply delete things, or the entire thing, if it turns out they were wrong about something. Books are things that authors become anchored to. If they are wrong, it becomes a case of sink or swim. The author has only have two choices left: sever the chain or flounder against the currents and tides until you eventually tire and sink to the depths with your many boxes of unsold books. Both choices present an equally expensive way in which to be embarrassed.

My advice, do not write a book about the Zodiac killer which names a suspect. If you do you will regret the moment you ever put pen to paper. Best idea is to start a website or blog. It is far cheaper and you can delete it once your little obsession has run its course.

Indeed MNIM....it's ''game over'' for Mr.Hewitt, having fingered ''Ted K'',when he had spent the whole of his Zodiac career, cautioning everyone against adopting a Zodiac suspect.

But,he had already run a Zodiac website,produced a Zodiac periodical [Radians and Inches],and finally,written a Zodiac trilogy.

Perhaps he's had enough..sad though, that he should ''slightly'' tarnish his image,as one of the best writers,on the history of the case.

My Name Is Mine

Gareth Penn somehow found a radian line on a Phillips road map and followed it straight to Professor Michael O'Hare's office in Berkeley. This one proved to be the first of many spectacular fails!

Likewise, Qvale being a man who did not lack a funny bone, must have heard the best joke in his life when a reporter presented him with the news one day that he was being investigated by an amateur sleuth who suspected him of being the Zodiac killer. Qvale no doubt paced back and forth anxiously for a while waiting for the "punch line" to come, or for the hidden camera to emerge from behind a curtain, with his friends all shouting "Smile, you've just been had on Candid Camera!" When this didn't eventuate he could only burst out laughing himself.

MNIM

You are reminding me of a seasoned cop who will have seen many rare case coincidences in his line of work.

Only hard evidence like Zodiac mailing Stine's Shirt will convince you of what the facts might be in this case.

I think it is healthy to have a "just the facts ma'am" voice here.

Well, we have several voices like that here I think.

Something of interest perhaps,Richard, for your readers.

The FBI allude to a series of letters, addressed to Randolph Hearst,at the SF Examiner.

The information that they were willing to reveal,in their files, was as follows :

The first letter was sent.on December 29th 1974,with the second on January 6th 1975,from Cleveland,Ohio.A further six letters followed...and all from the same scribe,at different locations.

The second letter started : '' Mr.Hearst,we are somewhat in a hurry, thanks to you....'' , and ended : ''....something you will never forget,''.

A ''Mr.Kravanja'' from Cleveland was initially arrested, and held on remand.Mr.Kravania had been caught attempting to contact Randolph Hearst,by phone,on a number of occasions. It transpires that Mr.Kravania had been suicidal, after his girlfriend had left him.He was later released, without charge.

The writer of the letters,is clearly believed to have been an educated man...but the letters were strewn with spelling errors. These errors were documented by the FBI,in addition to their frequency.

The errors included :

befor,eather,happon,untill,myby,allright,I'me,becoause,beleave,distroy,wate,cabnet,inportant,jilous,gess,weathr,promice,lyed,paryer [prayer].

Look like there could be a ''hell of a lot more'' out there [?].

I have another correspondence ''for the pot'',Richard....though one can become quite ''blase'' about these correspondences...and naturally,it comes down to ''in the eye of the beholder''.

This time,a ''cut and paste'',posted to court psychiatrist,''Dr.Hacker'',whose business address was in Beverley Hills. The letter was received by Dr,Hacker's receptionist, since he was away in Europe.

Sadly,no indication of where the letter was posted, and the FBI are not inclined to give this information.

But,the receptionist received it,on March 27th...two days ''after'' a date of instruction,on the ''cut and paste'' message.

The message,was as follows :

'' Dr.Hacker you are to call this no.4839064 at 6 p.m. Monday March 25th to talk on Miss Patricia Hearst's release.Don't contact the FBI.''

The phone number, was traced to a public phone, opposite ''The California Hotel ''.The hotel tended to take in people, awaiting a parole or probation hearing.

Dr.Hacker had recently appeared in the news [ Newsweek,SF Examiner and National Observer ],on account of becoming a chosen confident for the Hearst family,in their hour of need.

Thoughts go back to the ''Dr.Edward Adams'' card, for comparisons [?].

Ref : HEARNAP File 15 , Pages 298 - 300.

Richard
2/6/2019 02:21:12 am

The S.L.A were running on an anti-capitalism agenda, as detailed by the Hearst kidnapping and food giveaway. The Dr.Edward Adams'' card, Count Marco letter are examples of threats towards wealthy and successful people (as above). Obviously the Adams card was 1971, before the S.L.A were formed, but the fomenting ideas of these people took shape well before 1974 as individuals. Whether S.L.A or Zodiac, they both exhibited a distaste for the police and governing classes, as shown in the Fairfield letter threatening "government life" and threats towards the police. The later possible Zodiac correspondence and S.L.A exhibited a scorn towards the successful of society. Dr Hacker and Dr Adams being two such cases. The Zodiac didn't live in a vacuum, he certainly would have ideological leanings, and may certainly have indicated he wasn't part of the well-to-do class. The question being, did Zodiac evolve into an S.L.A member or sympathizer, or become more radicalized in the climate that was 1970s San Francisco. There are so many overlapping features in many of these correspondences, that unfortunately are difficult to fully untangle one way or another. Another interesting communication nevertheless.

My Name is Mine

Yes, for sure! I can only add that if he was mentally unstable he may also have been confused about all the radical changes taking place around him, and so he was just repeating things from the news, like SLA, in order to still appear "relevant".

.Certainly interesting observations,Richard, and it's difficult to dispute that the ''jury is out'' on this one.

I do find myself thinking : ''How could the FBI have been so remiss on the Zodiac case,at a time of the ''Hearst crisis'',when they, the FBI,were still inclined to set aside,a letter [..the SLA letter...].as one that they believe to be attributed to the Zodiac [?].''

But,one could argue that, the USA is a huge country, and the FBI are required to be an expansive organization, and, not ''everything'' ends up on the Director's desk.....so to speak.

I certainly agree that,as a probable ''outsider'',the Zodiac might have seen great ''disparities'' and perceived corruption, even,in comparison, from where he,the Zodiac, had originally come from.

I do think that, over what we believe that the Zodiac ''is'' responsible for....that he believed that he was a ''comedian waiting to get out''....and try to see ''humour'',from both sides of the fence...that which Zodiac found amusing....and,that which we find amusing about the Zodiac.

If,for example,the Zodiac was ''The Lord God'' author....then his ''Patty Hearst's bedroom,facing West'',is ironically hilarious,to ''us'' [?].

So,with this ''Dr.Hacker'' cut and paste,I'm trying to see what the Zodiac would gave found amusing about it...if ''he'' was its author.

Possibly, the ''clue'' about parole and probation hearings [?].

But,I have yet to laugh,over it...nor grasp a real reason,for sending it.

However,''we'' can never really underestimate the ''show off'',in him [?].

I have just looked up Dr.Frederick Hacker.....and pretty interesting stuff.

Born in Vienna,Austria,he was educated in Switzerland.

In 1945,he fled the coming of the Nazis, and came to America.

Seen as a leading expert on the perpetration of violence and terrorism,Hacker appeared,to give expert evidence in the Sharon Tate murders....and then,in 1972,courts in West Germany,to give expert evidence,in the Munich Olympic Games terrorist atrocities.

Then,of course,in 1974,his professional association with the Hearst family.

One does have to say, certainly someone that would have appealed to the Zodiac's propensity for mischief.

The following,is a handwritten note,posted from Truro,Nova Scotia,on 29th August 1974,to Radio Station WHN,New York.

The message,was as follows :

'' PAT HEURST IS ALIVE AND WELL IN SAN JOSE,CALIF..MR HEURST MUST NOT WORRY.SHE IS ALRIGHT,SHE HAS MADE UP HER OWN MIND.YES SHE HAS.

MR.X FOR THE S.L.A.

Comparisons with the August 1973 Albany Letter :

''....I AM ALIVE AND WELL....''

[...Mr.Rodelli would be pleased, though I don't suppose his adopted suspect was called '' Mr.X '',in those days [?]...]

An interesting couple of letters, were sent to the ''Niagra Gazette'',from Buffalo NY,and received by the newspaper,on the 3rd and then 9th of September 1974.

Both signed by '' A disciple ''

The newspaper reckoned that any information, pertaining to the Hearst saga, was gleaned from the contents of their own paper.

''A disciple'' believed that the Niagra Gazette would publish the first letter...which did not happen.Hence the follow up second letter, which was more menacing :

''.....Unless the following letter is published, something dreadful will happen to this dump you call a city.It is not only a threat, but a fact.

A disciple ''

The Zodiac,on his travels [?].

I think you could be correct Richard.

If we want a "consensus" generalization of Zodiac, Wikipedia provides it. It states the Zodiac killer was "an unidentified serial killer who operated in Northern California from at least the late 1960s to the early 1970s. The killer's identity remains unknown. The Zodiac murdered victims in Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco between December 1968 and October 1969."

If this was the extent of Zodiac's reign of terror, we can only state the truth: he was in fact a very short-lived serial killer.

We can be fairly sure that communications arriving in 1970 up until early 1971 came from his pen, but once we get into 1972 we start seeing different, more obscure and confusing communications.

In the interests of convenience, perhaps March 13th 1971 should be seen as the expiration date for Zodiac correspondence. All that follows becomes the stuff of hoaxes combined with myth and legend-making. It leads us everywhere and nowhere, but mostly into the domain of oddball conspiracy theories involving "cover ups" and the like.

Just 4 days after the "final" communication, on March 17, 1971, Allen's father, Ethan, dies at age 67. His father had served as a highly decorated naval commander on his retirement.

On Aug. 4, 1971, Mulanax, Toschi, and Armstrong interviewed Allen at his place of employment in Pinole, Calif.

The last authenticated Zodiac letter was mailed in March. After Allen was interviewed by LE, it would be 2-1/2 years before another communication purporting to be from Zodiac would be received by either the press or LE.

We know from killers like BTK that they can go dormant for many years and suddenly start killing again. This never happened with the Zodiac, as far as we are aware. A likely reason is that he knew he was under close scrutiny and being followed, so was keeping a low profile.

The similarities with the dates may be little more than coincidence, but the scenario does tend to fly in the face of those who see Zodiac's terror continuing unabated through the 70s and 80s. Some will even want us to believe he never did stop, he just kept killing and writing letters right up until present day. A few claim that he is still alive and well. But such people are definitely in the minority.

Consensus (and the evidence) does tend to suggest the expiry of Zodiac's reign of terror in early 1971.

Just on an overall view of the HEARNAP files,Richard, and if the SLA subject is re-visited,at a later date...

It did become increasingly evident that Patty's mother,Catherine, received almost as much attention from the SLA,as Patty's father,Randolph.

Catherine's position as a Universities of California Regent was criticised, regularly,by hoaxers and real SLA members, with the Marcus Foster murder,a ''catayst'' event...not unrelated to education related issues, that led back to Catherine.

It was, naturally, the ''clout'' of Randolph's business empire, which was earmarked, since his empire was seen as ''steamrolling'' right wing political viewpoints, over those on the left.

And,of course, could be extorted for financing a ''counter revolution''.

There is a ''sadness'' there...with many young people feeling an injustice that voices of alternative political persuasion, were not being heard.

But one can see that, even the hoaxers, were ''dashing out'',and getting themselves a ''quick fix'' education in political philosophy.

With ''My name is Stanley'',it appears obvious that he wanted to convey, that he understood that the ''Jewish problem'' had been around in world politics, for 140 years. And that education ''for all'',and adults that had previously missed out on,was ''thrown in'',for good measure.
