THE SANTA CLAUS CARD [PART 4]

9/7/2020

On March 2nd 1981, a business reply envelope postmarked Cleveland, OH, bearing the press printed address "The Danbury Mint, Richards Avenue, P.O. Box 5260, Norwalk, Conn" was mailed with the message: "Please stop forced bussing or I will kill 3 more black boys in Atlanta in March". On March 8th 1981, the Atlanta letter arived, signed Zodiac and replete with crosshairs, intimating he was killing the black children of Atlanta.  On March 18th 1981, the Washington Post received a letter addressed to "Editor of the Washington Post", claiming to have information on the Atlanta killings and requesting that the editor place an advertisement in the newspaper, stating "Daniel Please Call Home". Another letter, postmarked Williamsport PA 177 PM 23 APR 1981, bearing a pre-printed address was mailed with the accompanying handwritten note beginning "You shall die I'm going to..." The postage-paid envelope was used by a company to distribute literature to its prospective customers. The distribution was made from the New York office of the company.

On or about January 20th 1982, a Santa Claus card was mailed to the family home of missing 25-year-old Harvard graduate, Joan Webster, with the pre-printed address of 654 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, New York, mailed inside a business reply envelope for the Better Life Journal with the press-printed address of 7617-D Metro Drive, Austin, Texas. The Santa Claus card carried the message "Please, where can I write you,?" Three of these ominous/cryptic brief messages contained the polite request of "Please", either in the first or second word of the message. At least three of the communications had another thing in common - notably the use of pre-printed or business reply envelopes. There may be a geographical connection as well.
Picture
If you look at the map above you will notice the close proximity relationship of the Santa Claus card (with the pre-printed address of 654 Grandview Avenue) to the Glen Ridge home of the Webster family, to where it was mailed. The author had glued a newspaper cutting around the envelope carrying the message "Offer 10G reward for missing coed". This was cut from the New York Daily News article of January 18th 1982. The Santa Claus card was almost certainly a response to a heartfelt appeal by the Webster family for any information pertaining to their missing daughter, which was broadcast throughout New England on Christmas Day of 1981, less than a month after her disappearance.on 28th November 1981.

The March 2nd 1981 business reply envelope, postmarked Cleveland, OH, bearing the press printed address "The Danbury Mint, Richards Avenue, P.O. Box 5260, Norwalk, Conn" was mailed with the handwritten note: "Please stop forced bussing or I will kill 3 more black boys in Atlanta in March". The Danbury Mint ran advertisements in eighteen newspapers through a mail order company, advertising miniature pewter models of classic automobiles. The Danbury Mint is a division of MBI, Inc. that markets a variety of collectibles. Danbury Mint historically marketed high quality medals and ingots produced by others exclusively for them. The company also sold numerous other collectible offering including plates, bells, sculptures, etc. Danbury Mint is well known for its 1:24 scale die-cast vehicles, including a now discontinued James Bond's DB5. These advertisements ran on March 1st 1981, the day before the press printed Danbury Mint envelope was mailed. These envelopes were inserted inside each newspaper. One prominent newspaper on the list was the Staten Island Advance in New York, which could very well be where the author of the "forced bussing" letter sourced the envelope. The Better Life Journal business printed envelope, used for the Joan Webster family Santa Claus card, may also have been sourced from the Staten Island Advance. The Better Life Journal advertised its literature through subscription advertisements in selected newspapers. Here is an image of the Better Life Journals, including 1981.
Picture
There is good reason to believe the March 2nd 1981 "forced bussing" letter is connected to the March 8th 1981 "Zodiac" Atlanta letter. If this was the Zodiac Killer, then the Danbury Mint business reply envelope used in the March 2nd correspondence - possibly sourced from inside the Staten Island Advance newspaper - could place the Zodiac Killer in and around New York in 1981. The business reply envelope used for the Santa Claus card (addressed 654 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, New York), mailed to Glen Ridge, New Jersey and using a New York Daily News cutting, could easily be the same author. Whoever mailed these communications had a propensity to use pre-printed business reply envelopes, distributed free in the newspapers. And in both instances, readdressed them to their desired recipient. In the case of the Better Life Journal envelope, it was readdressed to the Webster family. In the case of the Danbury Mint envelope, it was directed to investigators in the Atlanta child murders. Gareth Penn believed the Santa Claus card was mailed to the Webster family by the Zodiac Killer in the aftermath of their daughter's disappearance. The links shown above may bolster his case - but only if the March 8th 1981 "Zodiac" Atlanta letter can be comprehensively proven to be the real Zodiac Killer.

Hi Richard,

I asked you a question over at ZKS. The link with my Name

Richard

No it isn't just the opinion of Randall or Graysmith, the original Halloween card only had one eye in the knothole and no skeleton on the inner. Is that what you meant Shawn?

Shawn

"the original Halloween card only had one eye in the knothole and no skeleton on the inner. Is that what you meant Shawn?"

How do you know the line of text starting with "...but, then" to the right of the knothole was on the original card?

Richard

Because investigators said so. That writing is the same as the writing on the face of the card.

The Zodiac's exclamation marks seem always to have been at a 30 degree angle.. Like javelins that have just landed . Quite aggressive looking .

The '' Please stop forced bussing...'' note , is no different from the norm , in this respect .

Richard
9/8/2020 05:19:49 am

That is true Rubislaw. I also looked again at the Santa Claus message "where can I write you". The newspaper snippet wrapped around the envelope used the Webster address of Glen Ridge, NJ, but obviously failed to provide an exact address, hence the author writing "where can I write you". It's clear this is why he wrote "Joan Webster/familie" and wrapped her picture around the envelope to leave the postal service no doubt to where it was supposed to be delivered. It also may suggest this individual was not a close friend.

I briefly considered the author was intending to suggest he had pertinent information which they wanted to share in a helpful capacity and wanting to claim the reward, but without a return address, the use of a Christmas card and the cryptic and anonymous SC (likely Santa Claus) it appears that the communication was more of a mischievous and sinister correspondence. I'm sure police would have followed up the lead of 654 Grandview Avenue and I suspect the person who resided here was in no way responsible - only a pre-printed address that was part of the card. The use of the word "please" on three communications, all likely using pre-addre envelopes provides not compelling, but an interesting connection.

Richard
9/8/2020 05:26:44 am

Also, the Texas link may be a red herring. It was a PO Box address for several companies to receive mail through such things as newspaper advertisements, as in the case of Danbury Mint. The Better Life Journal simply received mail through this PO Box address in Texas, and advertised like Danbury Mint through newspaper advertisements, indicating that the Zodiac Killer (or author) could have accessed all these envelopes in New York.

Rubislaw 32 link
9/8/2020 08:44:34 am

Certainly food for thought , there , Richard .

Yes , on the probability was that this was not a close friend of the family . And , yes on the probability that the communication was mischievous and sinister . And , the general arena of focus does seem , initially at least , to exclude Texas .

The typewriting link to the '' concerned citizen '' letter may be '' tenuous '' , but It's all that anyone outside the FBI and its associations , have .

If we accept that the SC card id the Zodiac , then he probably doesn't want money , and he seeks to inflict psychological damage to that which Joan's family are already going through .

But is it just deep-seated spite ? One almost feels , that with Joseph Bates (....if Zodiac..) , the Zodiac was practising being a '' cad '' , to see if it sat well on his conscience . For , with Joseph , it would have just been the act of extortion , without any great effort on the content of the correspondence . The '' Confession '' letter was surely for everyone to see , universally , what a strange creature that he might be - '' lock up your daughters '' , etc...

If we pin the SC card on the Zodiac , to the Websters , then I think that it comes down to a deep-seated rage of the Zodiac not being good enough to share company with them . A snobbery inverted , if you will .

And , that is why I believe that it is possible that the Zodiac murdered Joan Webster . A whirlwind romance of maybe just a week or two - but ultimately in that short time , Joan's new boyfriend giving Joan just enough reason to have second thoughts . Possibly , because the new boyfriend's reluctance to '' meet the family '' became a little too obvious to Joan .

And , the new boyfriend ( Zodiac ? ) knowing this all too well , but failing to admit it to himself - but instead , electing to give the Websters a '' double-dose '' of the monster that he had become .

Richard
9/8/2020 09:28:27 am

The Zodiac was already known to interject himself into murders and abductions he had no hand in, so turning up in Atlanta and New York and creating similar claims - and generally being an annoyance - perfectly beleivable. Because I think Zodiac was "about 40" in 1969, that would make him 52 years of age in 1981, and an unlikely boyfriend of an intelligent 25-year-old Harvard graduate. Not impossible, but statistically unlikely (even if he was 40).

Rubislaw 32 link
9/8/2020 09:51:45 am

I do understand that , Richard , and in no shape or form , in a condescending way...for I am '' lumbered '' , if you will , for believing that the Zodiac was 25 in 1969 .

'' 25 '' and '' 40 '' is a huge difference in a starting point of philosophy , with regard to certain events that happened , or aspects to the case , as a whole .

Viewing the Zodiac as a potential murderer of Joan , for me , sees the Zodiac going into a decline , in his private life , circa 1978 . Possibly because a '' then '' wife left him , and possibly took children . So , real devastation , of a sort...and hence the bravado express in the three 1978 letters...covering up for having fallen into his own abyss .

Move forward then to 1981 , the Zodiac ( ? ) would then be 37 and , initially feeling quite '' chipper '' with himself , coming across a young , intelligent and attractive '' Joan '' . Even thoughts of a new happy life ahead .

But , the wheels come off , pretty quickly , and it was a false dawn for the Zodiac who , realized that he had yet to climb out of his inner '' hole '' . And , now finding himself needing to get even with Joan's family whom , he blames out of convenience to himself , for being responsible , by the nature of their '' High Society '' background .

For the Zodiac , I suspect , '' Rejection '' at this time , was far far worse than mere '' sexual jealousy '' .

And it was '' Rejection '' for which the Zodiac felt he was a victim .

Richard
9/8/2020 10:53:10 am

Absolutely Rubislaw, everybody has a different opinion on the age of the Zodiac. I'm satisfied with a 40 estimate, but of course others go much younger. It all boils down to which eyewitness we place more credence on. As long as our conclusions are drawn from objectivity, rather than to suit a predetermined position we already held (ie: choosing which eyewitnesses to prefer based on which best suits a suspect), then its a choice born from neutrality.

Rubislaw 32 link
9/8/2020 11:13:29 am

Absolutely Richard . and I see that upwards of 50% of recent topics discussed at Reddit , have been physical looks and composite comparison related .

I have given the Brenda Page case more thought recently . Harrison made no plea , which is his legal right , and , the Crown Office have virtually admitted that charging him , is an interim measure , while they collate more evidence .

Apart from believing they have the right perpetrator , what is that all about ? ( ..one might consider ( ? )...) .

But , more particularly , to view the composite of the man wanted in connection to Dr.Page's murder . A one and only composite that had remained for 42 years .

It looks nothing like Christopher Harrison , in any way .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/8/2020 02:37:02 pm

Just on a point for consideration , perhaps : Since George Webster hiked up the reward to $50,000 quite quickly (..about $350,000 now...) , this could have allowed the Zodiac to slip through the net , on suspicion . at crucial times . Since we can be fairly confident that he was never about money .

Since George obviously wanted his daughter back , and could afford such a reward to offer , it probably became the mindset of investigating police , that all those who responded were motivated by the reward money .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/9/2020 02:00:23 am

At the time of the Santa Claus emerging (...with a very real chance that its author was the Zodiac...) , the author appears to have been responding to a $10,000 reward .

The reward money went '' 10 , then 20 , then 50 thousand dollars .'' . It was at the $50,000 mark , when Lenny Paradiso was fingered for the murder of Marie Iannuzzi .And subsequently Paradiso convicted for her murder with , retrospectively , suspicion of responsibility for Joan Webster's disappearance , hanging over his trial proceedings .

One could make the case that a large financial incentive , more than likely insisted upon , by George Webster , threw everything into disarray , not least compromising any realistic chance of finding justice , in Joan Webster's case .

As I make the claim now , the Zodiac only spoke up with seriousness , over money , when he fingered Robert Graysmith to the FBI , in May 2009 , for having withheld correspondence that he , the Zodiac , had sent Graysmith , in May of 1987 .

With the Zodiac experiencing Graysmith's '' Zodiac '' in 1986/87 , and then '' Zodiac Unmasked '' in 2002 , it seems that the Zodiac was OK with those publications , albeit not wholly truthful , because it perpetuated the Zodiac as a folklore legend .

But , Graysmith really cashing in on the Zodiac , with his involvement in the Hollywood film '' Zodiac '' , was taking matters just too far , on financially benefiting ( ? ) .

Ultimately , everyone has a price .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/9/2020 02:23:11 am

Yes , it seems that George Webster believed that he could buy the truth . But , if George was unwittingly dealing with the Zodiac , then George was playing a naive hand .

There had been the Gareth Penn involvement , but when the FBI made it plain to George , that Penn had approached with weak substance , then it seems , that the '' Zodiac factor '' was largely cast aside .

Unfortunate - because it does seem conceivable now , that Penn was '' close , but no cigar '' .

And , as I have been suggesting all along , the same goes for Lafferty - '' close , but no cigar '' .

For , it has subsequently become apparent that both Michael O'Hare and William Grant were innocent .

What I see in the signature of "SC", is not Santa Claus, even though the card suggests it. I see the SC and what I believe to be a small A (rotated counter-clockwise) inside the C, standing for the abbreviation of Southern California, "SCa". As in, a clue to other murders in Southern California.

Rubislaw 32 link

Indeed Toots , one finds oneself constantly thinking , '' Why should it be the obvious (...and in this case ' Santa Claus '....) , when examining that which the Zodiac has left behind .

The '' S '' and the '' C '' , as scrawled , do resemble a snake and a crab , albeit in a rudimentary way .

The tale of '' The snake and the crab '' goes back to Ancient Greek times , and is a fable designed to illustrate that the movement of both creatures is far from direct .And hence , a message , which has a modern equivalent of '' Pot calling the kettle black '' .

The earliest mention of '' The snake and the crab '' in modern times , comes from the 5th Century , with lyrics from a drinking song :

'' The crab spoke thus , seizing the snake in its claws . One's comrade should be straight , and not think crooked thoughts .''

Interesting , that Gareth Penn's '' Times 17 '' was published in 1987 .

With the two New Canaan Letters emerging in April 1988 .

If there had been any publicity over Penn's initial involvement with the Webster family , it may well have largely slipped under the radar , publicly , But , with an actual Zodiac-related published work ( Times 17 '' in 1987 , following on from Graysmith's '' Zodiac '' , in 1986 and 1987 ( hardback and paperback ) , then there could be no doubt that the Webster case carried suspicions , at least , of having links with the Zodiac case .

And , the FBI Files bear testimony to a remaining suspicion .

It appears to me , anyway ,that the April 1988 New Canaan Letters represent when the Zodiac '' broke cover '' as to his identity , deliberately , with George Webster .

As if to say :

'' Remember '' S C '' and others , perhaps ( ? ) . Well , it was actually me , The Zodiac , all along , George . ''

Rubislaw 32 link
9/11/2020 12:10:13 pm

If the Santa Claus postcard implies anything , within the context of the Zodiac case , then it implies that the Zodiac had decided to , and within two months of Joan Webster's disappearance , embark on a persecution of Joan's family .

To what extent , remains unclear to date , at least in the public domain .But , the 1988 New Canaan Letters offer the possibility of an extended persecution which , was still ongoing after seven years .

Two years further on , in April 1990 , Joan's remains were uncovered , and one wonders if it was then that the Zodiac desisted from further persecution ( ? ) .

Something that we can be fairly confident of , depending on the extent of the Zodiac's involvement in matters of extortion is , that the Zodiac was want to do his research , when targeting individuals or agencies .

It is apparent that the Webster family's wealth , had been created by George's father '' RN ''. And , their ties to the Horse racing and breeding fraternity , went alongside RN's personal empire .

Both George and Eleanor Webster had worked for the CIA , at one time , and one feels that this is something , for which the Zodiac may have found useful .

A '' sobering '' thought also , when examining what Eve Carson has recently admitted :

'' I was never told about the Otto Corporation . In October 1945 , '' RN '' was named Chairman of the Board of the Otto Corporation , and a Director of its European affiliate . The parent company was headquartered in Germany , and controlled by the Nazis in WWII . They manufactured Coke Ovens . They also built Chemical Plants .''

Well , one can only imagine if the Zodiac had acquired this information . He would surely have had a '' field day '' with George .

I have researched what I believe to be a cold case murder in the "backyard" of George Webster's residence in Newtown Square, PA with too many coincidental clues to Zodiac...it shouldn't be overlooked that Joan Webster's killer may have been Z, and he planted clues next to George Webster's residence.

Webster's residence literally backed up to the perimeter of the park.

Interesting Toots , and thanks for the access reference . I'll have a real good look at it .

George Webster claims to have retired at '' 59 1/2 years old ''. George moved to Newton Square , PA , from his long-held previous home at Glenn Ridge , NJ , in 2000 .

So , it appears that George had elected to retire from an active working life , about a year before the 1988 New Canaan Letters . Perhaps pursuits , like choir singing and music , generally , started to enter his life more , then ( ? ) . In addition , giving up the Horse Racing , when his father '' RN '' died .

I see that when Joan's remains were discovered at Hamilton , MA , in April 1990 , it was a comfort of sorts , to George's family . The '' knowing '' now , having realistically given up hope of Joan being alive , a long time previously . With George continuing to believe that Lenny Paradiso was responsible for his daughters death . This incidentally , on account that Paradiso had been a pirate taxi driver , at Logan Airport , the evening that Joan disappeared .

It doesn't make much sense - how does one simply make the '' Bearded Man '' suddenly disappear from the scenario , of the first ( legitimate ) taxi driver's testimony of having had an argument with the Bearded Man , over two suitcases , belonging to the Bearded Man...and Joan Webster who , witnessed the argument .

But....back to George Webster....yes , Toots , one wonders if the Zodiac's persecution of George , continued long after the discovery of Joan's remains . And , even well into George's retirement , with a year 2000 , for George's move to Newton Square , PA .

Yale University is situated at New Haven , CT .

It does seem now , that we are observing yet another of the FBI's carefully constructed '' porky pies '' - and this time , to divert attention away from the '' Zodiac authenticity '' of the 1988 New Canaan Letters .

The letters are from the Zodiac , and designed to embarrass George Webster .

And the the FBI ( James Comey ) , in collusion with then Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland and (still ) D.A. for Boston , MA , Jonathan Blodgett.....have been rumbled .

Friday December 19th 2014 was the day when plans were finalised , to transfer Joan Webster's case file , to the Crown Office , in Edinburgh , Scotland .

It's a fascinating case , Toots .

Until an I.D. , it is difficult to look beyond ( ? ) .

Some reports infer that that the body had been there for a few months .

With George aged 88/89 at that time , not a likely link of a set-up .

But , one can never be sure of the Zodiac's mind .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/12/2020 04:57:13 am

And , if I might just add , Joan's case file could have been more than a ton , in weight , of paperwork...plus the very real possibility of '' forensics '' extras .

Just to put its reality , in perspective .

There are , in addition , very real grounds (...based on the testimony of Chief Constable of Durham Constabulary , Mike Barton , and the '' generalised '' notification to Eve Carson , from Jonathan Blodgett...) for believing that Joan's case file was taken custody , by the Crown Office , in Edinburgh , between March 2nd and March 4th , 2015 .

I would further make the point , that this '' cosy agreement '' initially took place , at the exclusion of the CA DOJ who , went '' ballistic'' when they finally found out .

'' What goes around , comes around '' ( ? ) - and the CA DOJ can hardly make claim to having covered themselves in glory , over the case of the Zodiac Killer , up to that point .

To the extent , that other law enforcement agencies were actively attempting to avoid , and even by-pass the CA DOJ , on any matters that might relate to the Zodiac case .

Toots

There's no way the Ridley Creek remains had been there for months. Too many dog walkers would have found it immediately. That skeleton was moved from somewhere else and dumped during Xmas or New Years day. I believe that skeleton was much older than a few months. Potentially several years old.

If Zodiac was responsible for Joan Webster he clearly would have known where George Webster retired to.

Rubislaw 32 link
9/13/2020 12:16:41 am

I agree in principle on both accounts .

It's just that with newspaper reports , they can differ from one ( report ) to another , depending on what message they wish to convey .

Hopefully , the Ridley Creek case will be constantly reviewed .

With George Webster , and on what we have observed of the Zodiac , it seems that the Zodiac would not consider of himself , doing a good enough job , if he didn't find out everything about a target of persecution , that he , the Zodiac , was able .to .

Personally , I believe that William Grant was the most targeted of the Zodiac's living victims , and that George ended up a close second , on '' living hell '' treatment .

I am persuaded also , albeit with caution , that it was the Zodiac who murdered Joan Webster .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/14/2020 02:32:32 am

To go beyond , in furthering the debate on culpability for Joan Webster's death , I believe that '' motive '' ,if you will , was '' rejection '' .

For , this wasn't necessary , or even likely ( ? ) , a straightforward case of premeditated intent , with malice aforethought .

A possible scenario was , that when the Bearded Man and Joan Webster met ( with intentions to meet ) , at Logan Airport , they had flown in on different aircraft , and possibly differing destinations .

But , the meeting was not an entirely joyous occasion . The Bearded Man understood , at that point , that Joan was not best pleased with him . Perhaps he had been rumbled by Joan , for making a false excuse to avoid meeting the family , that Thanksgiving weekend .

Joan just wanted to return to her accommodation , at Cambridge . The Bearded Man requested that they go back to his place first , to talk , with a promise that he would then take her back to Cambridge . Reluctantly , she agreed to his request , which cost her her life .

This scenario , though believable , has yet accounted for the apparent '' second taxi driver '' whom , is assumed to have driven away from Logan Airport , with the Bearded Man and Joan Webster .

It has been theorised in the past , that Lenny Paradiso may have been the '' second taxi driver '' , and would have been a non-registered and '' pirate '' cabbie .

Perhaps , the second taxi driver was just '' someone else '' , that equally was not willing to come forward ( ? ) . Just someone that was not willing to come forward , with witness evidence . Possibly someone with a criminal record , and freedom to loose .

Regardless of a ransom .

So....we could then take it a step further . The Bearded Man kills Joan Webster , in an argument , at his accommodation . He immediately makes plans to conceal and/or dispose of her body .

The Bearded Man prepares himself for the possibility that he will be approached , in connection to Joan's disappearance . When or if the '' second taxi driver '' comes forward .

But , it never came - despite a reward , and despite the knowledge that the family and investigating police have a composite , based on his argument with the first taxi driver .

The Bearded Man's constructed reasoning was to have been that , he had simply driven her home to Cambridge . But , his alibi was never required of him and , after nearly two months , the second cabbie had not come forward .

Cue....the emergence of the Santa Claus Card . Now , the devil was taking over , in his ( Zodiac's ? ) mind .

His rejection had been down to George , whose daughter Joan had been the apple of his eye .

George would pay for this .

I would suggest that , no matter how many times that one examines the purported chain of events , that evening at Logan Airport , the overriding conclusion is...

That it is the second taxi driver that held the key to Joan's disappearance , And that , to perhaps state the obvious , he never came forward , let alone prime suspect '' The Beaded Man '' .

It is at this point that many , taking an interest in the case , start making a case for the second taxi driver and Bearded Man being in collusion , over Joan's disappearance .

Now...'' stop right there ''.....this should actually be , where investigations ought to return to the Terminal Building , and an examination of Flight Manifests .

Beyond reasonable doubt , it would appear that the Bearded Man arrived on a flight , prior to Joan's , and probably no longer than two hours prior . Indeed , it may be the case that the Bearded Man flew , under an assumed name .

But , it certainly seems that the killer of Joan Webster would appear on one passenger list and , it ought to have been the case that investigating police followed up , on this line of enquiry .

But , did they ( ? ) , at the time , or devote just not enough human resources in this sort type pf investigation .

I would bet a '' pound to a penny '' that at least one LE agency is now aware of the identity of The Bearded Man ,

Perhaps Mr. Blodgett might like to admit who now holds guardianship of Joan Webster's case file ?

But , somehow I doubt that he will do so .

Rubislaw, do we know whether the 2nd taxi driver was the Bearded Man? Did the Bearded Man get in the back seat of the car with Joan?

Rubislaw 32 link
9/14/2020 02:52:16 pm

From what I understand , Toots , the Bearded Man and Joan Webster , were witnessed making an approach to another taxi , by the taxi driver , with whom the Beaded Man had had an altercation ( ...over the practicalities of two large suitcases being accommodated , in the first taxi driver's cab...) .

Beyond this , it seems as if the first taxi driver gave up , in giving the couple his attention .

I have wondered if the Bearded Man , had then considered hiring a car . But , it does seem unlikely , given that a perceived relatively short distance was required , to travel .

On balance of probability , the couple sought a second taxi , and that that second taxi was a non-registered one . Pirate taxis were quite common , in those days , before increased security at Airports . It was breaking the law , so perhaps it also increases the chances of the drivers being less than honest citizens ( ? ) .

Lenny Paradiso was a lobster fisherman , and this was his sort of work , in the off-season months .At his trial of the murder of Marie Iannuzzi , he was exposed as a small-time drugs dealer , with no proof that he had ever paid taxes , also , a well as other accusations laid against him , that bore little relation to the reasons that he was in the dock , on trial for murder .

Reading press reports during his trial , even they , the press , had already made their minds up , over Paradiso's guilt . And , much of this came down to the suspicion that Paradiso was responsible for Joan's disappearance , also .

If one puts the Bearded Man and the ( presumed ) second taxi driver together , as two people with intentions of abducting Joan Webster , then one is leaning , at least , to the notion that this was a pre-conceived kidnapping plot , with obvious intentions of procuring a sum , in ransom , for a known '' Little Rich Girl '' .

Retrospectively anyway , there is no real evidence that this scenario took place . But , it certainly was the case that George Webster's first inclinations were , that this is was might have happened .

Eve Carson notes that , in attending a subdued Webster family Christmas , one month later , a stoic acceptance that Joan was probably now dead , had descended . The consideration for the possibility of a kidnapping scenario sill remained , but strategy was more aimed at flushing out perceived '' kidnapping bunglers '' , than entertaining the thought that Joan had been simply bowled over by a man that presented endangerment to her .

In the second of the two 1988 New Canaan Letters , the author re-treads with some '' I've got a little list '' lyrics , by Gilbert & Sullivan , that first appeared in the Zodiac's Little List Letter , in July 1970 .

On examining the lyrics expressed , between the letter of July 1970 , and the letter of April 1988 , there is one main departure from the original Gilbert & Sullivan lyrics .

July 1970 - lyrics by Zodiac's interpretation of G & S :

'' And the lady from the provences who dress like a guy , who doesn't cry and the singurly abnomily the girl who never kissed...''

April 1988 - lyrics by Zodiac claimant's interpretation of G & S :

'' There's a diva from New Canaan town whose voice is much too high , And who'd better watch herself because her end is nigh . She's a singular anomaly , this teenage sopranist...''

Original lyrics by Gilbert & Sullivan :

'' And the lady from the provinces who dresses like a guy , And who ' doesn't think she dances , but would rather like to try .' , And the singular anomaly , the lady novelist...''

If I could appeal to anyone , Richard , that feels inclined to offer comments , or opinions , regarding the content of the 1988 New Canaan Letters....it would be good to hear .

Is there a date given by Mr.Morford , for the anonymous e-mail , which followed on , from his initial receipt of a copy of the New Canaan Letters ?

I note that the FBI are on record as to , what they perceive as contradiction , between '' Diva '' and '' Teenage Soprano '' .

Richard

There is no date given for the email Rubislaw, suffice to say that the Zodiac Killer Site forum post by Mike was dated April 2015, in which he described receiving the mail "some time ago". The new forum was created around 2014, so my guess is he received the email in 2014 or early 2015. But that is just a calculated guess using a bit of old Sherlock Holmes grey matterism. The person behind the email was probably correct for the most part, bearing in mind the two girls aforementioned would have been 17 years of age in 1988, exactly the same age as the teenager mentioned in the email. Look for the designer of the Canaan letters in that 1989 yearbook. It certainly didn't require Sherlock Holmes to identify this idiot. I bet the police probably rolled up to his classroom as soon as the cipher was decoded. Not much of a genius after all. Disturbed yes.

Thanks for that , Richard .

It would be very helpful if , Mr.Morford would be able to state , for the record , when he received the copies of the two 1988 New Canaan Letters and , further state the date of the anonymous e-mail , related to a claim on the letters' source .

Then there can be no doubt and , I would have presumed that someone with sleuthing experience , as Mr.Morford , would understand how unsatisfactory it appears , that this information has yet to be made public .

Five and half years ?

There are now politicians that understand the potential ramifications of the 1988 New Canaan Letters . And yet Mr.Morford seems to be the only person in the public domain , with the information on dates .

Mr.Morford is his own man , no doubt , and hopefully he will reveal this information to the rest of us .

I got closed down from the internet , as soon as I made my last comments post . Quite a regular occurrence , these days .

C'est la vie . Not a great day , having to inform a research agency , in Ipswich , that I would be reporting their behaviour to politicians who sit on Justice Committees . But , they know where that bad behaviour came from , whether they give '' two hoots '' to what I told them , or not ( law enforcement agencies ).

But , it will all come out in the wash , eventually .

Richard , your site is the only site , of significance , that is on the cutting edge . A compliment .

Now then....didn't Ross Sullivan die in 1977 ? What some people are willing to hang on to , and how it shapes their outlook.....can be most strange .

One nice thing to-day , A deluge of visits at '' ZKM '' over my new revelation .

On a claim , naturally....but , when the Zodiac referred to a '' Dee Audio '' , he wasn't referring to '' LA Strikes '' , but actually '' Last Rites ''

How a '' t '' instead of a '' k '' can make such a big difference .

Yes indeed , from the Zodiac's warped perspective :

'' Nice freak clue around Darlene's case .''

The paper that the 1988 New Canaan Letters were written on , is from England .

The company is called '' Conqueror '' , and has been in existence since 1888 .

Conqueror's '' Paper and Envelopes '' product line has a huge range of diversity , for the use of , in both offices and domestically .

Conqueror now describe their trade as :

'' Business & domestic software engineering '' .

Conqueror's official registered name and address , is now :

Conqueror Design Engineering Ltd.
210 Runley Road
Luton
Bedfordshire
England

Was the writing paper , employed to create the 1988 New Canaan Letters , acquired in the U.K. ?

Or , was the writing paper readily available from a local outlet source ?

Richard

Conqueror writing paper was distributed worldwide, including the USA.

Rubislaw 32 link
9/16/2020 03:49:46 pm

Interesting , perhaps , if we consider the picture postcard which was employed for the 1990 Celebrity Cypher .

Regardless of where the postcard was manufactured , John Hynde postcards normally had business address details , if the postcards were distributed in the U.S.A.

Most John Hynde products ,at that 1990 time , were distributed from a North Hollywood address and , other John Hynde postcards can be seen with that address printed down the mid-section of his postcards .

However , in the case of the John Hynde picture postcard employed for the 1990 Celebrity Cypher , there is no such American distributor's address . And , simply '' Printed in Ireland '' can be seen were a postage stamp is supposed to be affixed .

So , in light of possible further research , there remains a reasonable chance that the picture postcard , depicting Carmel Beach , CA , was purchased in either Great Britain or Ireland . And , probably an international outlet , such as an airport .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/16/2020 04:08:09 pm

The reason why many would have not noticed this before , is that Ricardo Gomez was in an understandable hurry to copy both sides of the John Hynde postcard , once I had notified him of his existence on E-bay .

Ricardo had gone ahead with superimposing a postage stamp on the copied plain side , for the sake of realism , Nonetheless , both he and I can assure everyone that '' Printed in Ireland '' was printed , where a postage stamp is supposed to be affixed .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/16/2020 11:14:03 pm

With respect to other's opinions , but I still lean to the Zodiac having purchased the postcard , on a short visit to Carmel , itself , having prepared the cipher previously , and electing to make Clint Eastwood represent , at least , the '' first impact '' red herring .

It worked - for 16 years , until the Cryptanalysis Unit decided to '' feed '' it into the public domain , via Lyndon Lafferty .

And , this is really the point about both the 1988 New Canaan Letters and 1990 Celebrity Cipher .

They were both released to the public , because the FBI required answers , for which they had been unable to provide , for themselves .

With the letters , a solution to the riddle , for which the Z263 solution asked . And , for the Celebrity Cypher - an actual solution , not yet achieved .

Mr.Morford piped up over the receipt of the 1988 New Canaan Letters , in April 2015 , and only makes mention of its arrival , '' some time ago '' .

But when , exactly ?

It is most unlikely to have been before March 4th 2015 , for which Chief Constable Mike Barton was prohibited , by Police Scotland , from gaining access to e-mails monitored , by Senior Police .

This information on dates '' is '' technically in the public domain - but , so far , Mr.Morford has elected to keep this information to himself .

For whatever reason - goodness only knows .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/16/2020 07:11:00 pm

Just referring back to the contents of the New Canaan Letters , and including the solution to Z263 , as actually solved and supplied by the FBI :

There are , as appears , two females referred :

i ) '' Shauna '' , whom we are informed , is both a Diva , and teenage Soprano .

ii ) '' Missus Taylor '' , who '' draws the symbol '' . Missus is more commonly recognised as '' Mrs '' and denotes the title of a married woman .

And so , the author of the New Canaan Letters , presents us with '' Shauna '' , whom he ( ? ) claims is a teenage Soprano , and a married woman , whose surname is Taylor , '' Missus Taylor '' .

Rubislaw 32 link

So . correction...it is Mrs.Taylor who has knowledge of who draws the symbol .

It was late April 1982 , and five months after Joan Webster's disappearance , that George decided to invite Gareth Penn , in person .

On the pretext of a '' discussion '' , George made sure that someone from the FBI would be there to interview Penn , and notified the FBI prior , that he expected them to search through flight passenger lists , to see if they could spot Penn , albeit accepting that Penn might have used an assumed name .

One wonders how aware that Penn was , that he was now considered a suspect ( ? ) .

Just reading through some of Eve Carson's earlier posts , one extra piece of information is , that the car , and presumed second taxi at Logan Airport was blue in colour .

I believe that , as an overview , one can conclude that Joan's killer was , either the Bearded Man acting off his own bat , or that the Bearded Man was in collusion with at least one other ( the presumed second taxi driver ) , in a plot to simply murder Joan , or for the purposes of procuring ransom money .

George Webster's wealth understandably would not allow him to dismiss the notion that Joan had been kidnapped for financial gain .And , as time went on , the means of solving the case , as realistically one of culpability for Joan's death , inevitably splintered and became corrupted by ever - increasing amount of individuals who thought they knew better , and with a name and financial gain , to make for themselves .

Beyond reasonable doubt , the Bearded Man bears some or all responsibility . But , if '' all '' responsibility , then it is doubtful that this is a case of first-degree murder , given that the Bearded Man exposed himself to the public , prior to Joan's disappearance and , to all intents and purposes , appeared with Joan as a couple , without indications that Joan wished this display , overly not the case .

The Santa Claus Card now demonstrates that the Zodiac was probably not far away , in a figurative sense that he took an active role in extortion , with persecution of Joan's family as intention , and after two months only , following Joan's disappearance .

A completely foolish action , one might think ( ? ) . But , it could be the case that the Zodiac just couldn't let matters lie , and the '' small portal '' that we are now glimpsing , with the Santa Claus Card , actually represents a pursuit of George Webster , for the rest of his days , and at the Zodiac's convenience .

The rejection by Joan Webster , being merely transferred into blaming George for that rejection , and causing the Zodiac to find himself taking a life , yet again .

But also perhaps , a question few might wish to answer ( ? ) .

Had Joan's perpetrator , the Bearded Man ( Zodiac ? ) , fallen in love with Joan ?

A crime passionnel , with Joan's perpetrator needing to blame George - in order to forgive himself .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/18/2020 07:53:50 pm

Did the Zodiac take the '' blame game '' on to a new level ?

First official Zodiac suspect was William Grant , born 1920 , at Manchester-by-the-Sea , MA .

Joan Webster's remains were discovered at Chebacco Woods , two miles from Manchester-by-the-Sea , MA .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/19/2020 03:06:15 pm

When Joan Webster's remains were discovered , in April 1990 ,by a woman out walking with her dog , the authorities immediately attended the scene .

A pile of cut and broken logs revealed Joan's body in a black plastic bin liner , laying in a natural basin ( ...as opposed to an actual shallow grave...) . Immediate identification was promising , albeit not certain , by finding a gold bracelet and amethyst ring on the body .

Further searching was made , on account of the body's head missing . Within a week , a skull was uncovered in the surrounding area , and dental comparisons with the skull's mouth confirmed that the body and head both belonged to Joan .

Eight and a half years , then , between Joan's disappearance and her remains found . With examination of the wood pile that concealed her remains , had been added to and replenished , at least two times during the period of Joan's concealment .

One can't help feeling then , that this was actually a bit more than an act of keeping Joan's body hidden ( ? ) . An element , perhaps , of attempting to protect Joan , in death ( ? ) .

A shrine to the memory of Joan , as much as just a gravesite .

A conscience ,at play , and over a long time period .

Rubislaw 32 link
9/20/2020 02:26:40 pm

Did Joan Webster leave her killer's name behind ?

With verified family status , Joan's sister-in-law , Eve Carson , has been given access to some extra information , in the last 2-3 years .

In Ms.Carson's last internet post , she states the following :

'' Joan had an item in her belongings that may well have been a clue . On first glance , the clue would not seem unusual . It is listed in FBI reports ( ...as merely listed ?...) .But a police report identified what was written on the item . That is the unusual aspect .''

An item that had writing on it ?

Joan was known to have been carrying a program of the ( then ) current Broadway show , '' The Pirates of Penzance '' , by Gilbert & Sullivan . Also , some LP records .

This news would certainly seem as if there is increased confidence , as to who may be responsible for Joan's death .
