THE HEAD OF THE CROSS

2/19/2018

In many previous articles it was considered whether the Zodiac Killer murdered with religious motivation, from his references to paradise and the afterlife, to a numerical system buried deep within his cards and ciphers. The numbers 888 and 444 were integral to this hypothesis. In Christian numerology, the number 888 represents Jesus, or sometimes more specifically Christ the Redeemer. In English numerology 444 represents Jesus, based upon a multiplication factor of 6.
Picture
Numbers are attributed to the alphabet (see right). However, with this system everything is multiplied by six. A (6), B (12), C (18) etc. JESUS is therefore 60+30+114+126+114=444. But things may not have been so straightforward with the Zodiac Killer.

After the abduction and likely murder of Donna Lass on September 6th 1970, the Zodiac Killer mailed two cards. The first was the 13-Hole postcard on October 5th 1970 - notable for the number 13, with a cross pasted underneath. The second was the Halloween card with the number 14 written as 4-TEEN, with a skeleton underneath, in the style of Jesus being crucified on the cross. In both instances, a number written at the top of the cross or crucified form.

When Jesus was crucified, the letters INRI were affixed at the top of the cross above his head: 'Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum'' meaning ''Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.'' Bearing this in mind, we shall consider why the Zodiac Killer decided to write 4-TEEN instead of fourteen or 14. There surely must be a reason.

Switching back to 13-Hole postcard, we will place CROSS (a symbol of Christianity) into the code above using the factor of 6 again: CROSS = 18+108+90+114+114=444, exactly the same as Jesus. Could this link our two cards together. JESUS and CROSS together equal 888, reminiscent of the numbers contained within the 13-Symbol cipher, mailed to the San Francisco Chronicle on April 20th 1970. One has to ask, why would the Zodiac Killer paste a cross on the 13-Hole postcard in red, if not the suggestion of a bloodied crucifix?

Picture
Was the murderer of five likening himself to Jesus Christ, the savior of souls for the afterlife. The thirteen eyes representing 13 souls he was allegedly claiming, looking at the crucified form of Jesus Christ or a potential fourteenth victim. This was after all a Halloween Card:

Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween,  All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed. Taken from Wikipedia.

The problem we have with the Halloween card, is that the Zodiac Killer has already given us one number - the number 4. This is not present in the system of coding above, based on a factor of 6. So, we will return to basics, where A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4 etc. 4-TEEN = 4 - 20+5+5+14 = 4-44, to give us the figure 444 over the crucified form of Jesus. This now is in tandem with INRI representing Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.

Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, Prophesy! And the guards took him and beat him. - Mark 14:65

Much offered up,and to consider,Richard.

The ''INRI''was a stand out,for me,this time around, since I remember it coming to my attention, when looking at possible influences, for Zodiac's choice of crucifix on the back of the Halloween Card.

Since the Christian cross is so prevalent, the influence could have come from any number of sources....granted.

But,its simplicity was quite striking, and,in looking for a visual influence,I came across the painting ''The Crucifixion'' by artist, engraver and poet,William Blake.

The depiction is Jesus on the cross, with the initials ''INIR'' distinctly, above.

As many may know [?],''Crucifixion'' was not considered a death sentence,as such.....but a form of corporal punishment,of approximately 48 hours duration.

On the second day, loved ones of the ''punished'' were often allowed to tend to their loved one, with water and medical assistance,if successfully bribing the guards.

So,I do wonder if Zodiac saw the distinction....that,to him,it represented long and drawn out torture....more along the lines of his intentions,or inference of his intentions, towards his ''victoms'' [?].

A detail that keeps nagging at me: in the construction of the Halloween Card, has the skeleton been pasted on from another source (montage) with the limbs carefully arranged? Since it is sitting over some text from the store bought (?) card it would appear to be so. I'm just not buying the Christian angle. I think the cross with the number 13 simply indicates he's put that many in the ground. I like your Moon theory for the circled 8's better than the numerological tack. They might just be 8 balls, they're certainly not Taurus symbols- I've been doing astrology long enough to know. Still it doesn't mean he wasn't using astrology or that he wasn't a Taurus (ie Kane). The skeleton seems posed like a helpless victim or like Paul Stine, as you'd previously proposed. The source of the 408 paradice slaves story possibly is some bit of drama from an old film or play. It doesn't ring true as a motive, the longer one examines the letters. This is a guy with a very sick sense of humor, after all, who always seems to be recalling some dramatic reference or other

Yes Carl,it is already established that the second skeleton has been added.

But,no one has yet to establish the second skeleton's precise source.

I have ventured that it may have been a free gift from a child's comic. Many of these sorts of gifts, ended up hidden in a scrap book,or just ended up in a trash can.

The William Blake reference, could lead us on to the derivation of ''By Fire'',in Zodiac's mind [?].

Possibly he was an arsonist,or at least saw himself,as such [?].

But,most of us are aware of Blake's ''Jerusalem''....where he refers to his ''Chariot of Fire''....a ''byword'' in modern times for a motorcar.

Hello Rubislaw32,

I am leaning towards that theory as well regarding the skeleton. At first I thought it was a Beistle skeleton, but I haven't seen any examples resembling the one found in the card. It would be interesting to find its source because it could give us a clue to the Zodiac's age--- meaning if if was a gift found in a comic book/ magazine from let's say the late 50s/early 60s (or earlier) then we can say the Zodiac came of age during that period. It's a long shot, but you never know.

Carl, regarding the film angle: the skeletons always reminded me of Walt Disney's "Skeleton Dance" It's an old animated cartoon from 1929. Could be a clue....

Hi John

Just squeazing in above you......yes,this second skeleton.

I suspect that Zodiac bought a child's comic, with a free gift of a cardboard skeleton,at the same time that he bought the Halloween Card, meant for Paul Avery.

So,we could be looking at the ''run in'' to Halloween 1970.

Any keen researchers out there, could collate the range of available children's comics,at the time, and see if any were offering this.It would probably be advertised on the front cover [?].

Richard
2/19/2018 10:04:35 pm

He certainly had a strange sense of humour Carl-that's for sure. These theories are always fair game, as the Halloween card was designed in such a way, the variables are massive. The skeleton was added to the inner of the card and placed in such a manner by Zodiac. But whether it has any significance is certainly open to question. The reason I went for the religious angle, is that I had previously tackled it before, and wanted to answer two questions: [1] Why did he bother to add the crucifix on the '13 Hole' postcard at all (if it had no meaning) [2] Why write 14-TEEN in this particular fashion, and did any meaning exist behind it. I accept, I may be wide of the mark, and many theories are possible. Rubislaw also pointed out the configuration of the Paradice and Slaves in cross form, which lends to the idea. These sorts of articles, however, are very objective, and fortunately I don't get too attached to them. The Zodiac may very well have just viewed a play or film, as you suggest, and this was simply regurgitated by him, as was The Mikado. There is nothing certain in the Zodiac story.

Rubislaw 32 link

On that humour side,Richard,it has always struck me as ''obvious'' [?],that Halloween is,or could be,a play on ''Hello wee'n''.

In ''Scots English'',this translates into ''Hello little one''.

I love it when people write with absolute certainty about obscure things. No dilly-dallying about by saying "this is a possibility" or "maybe it means this" or "what if it means that". Just state authoritatively "It means this". Nobody can argue with something if it is a "fact". Believe me, I know this for certain! :-)

Ray Jenkins
2/19/2018 06:38:13 pm

I do think the Zodiac had some kind of peculiar religious philosophy in his head, but it was very scrambled. We can only guess at exactly what he was specifically referring to at times. Perhaps bits and pieces from childhood Sunday school, bits taken from visits to churches (funerals, weddings and the like), plus his own insights and personal epiphanies, stuff from TV documentaries, books he read at school, perhaps even comic books. In my honest opinion, he really wasn't a theological genius, but he wanted to put forward the idea of being one. The idea that people are still discussing his bizarre theological perspectives after so many years would have almost certainly served to "get his rocks off".

Perhaps this was his intention all along. To create a popularized myth of himself so that he seemed legendary in the eyes of the public. To some extents he has achieved this elevated status, although clearly not deserving any such attention or praise. In many other ways he failed miserably. Many serial killers have tried to justify their killing by referencing obscure or vague pseudo-religious ramblings. It is like they are comparing themselves to a higher power in order to legitimize their own nefarious deeds. Charles Manson is just one example that springs immediately to mind. Often they take their bizarre self-indulgent belief systems to the ultimate extreme to satisfy their superfluous egos, and will inevitably claim that they are "a god", or, in Judaeo-Christian terms, "GOD" Himself.

Richard
2/19/2018 10:34:00 pm

While I accept I may be wrong in many of my theories, I have always thought the Zodiac was heavily influenced by religion in some way, and the Charles Manson case is a perfect example. It has been proven there is a strong link to childhood with, for example, paedophiles- the abused becoming the abusers. There may possibly something in Zodiac's style of upbringing that shaped the murderer of five. I know that the USA is a far more religious country than the UK, and one only has to visit the 'Young Turks' and 'Secular Talk' videos on Youtube to unearth some of the views held by some Christian fundamental Evangelicals, who believe Donald Trump was chosen by God. Michelle Bachmann is a case in point, who have become brainwashed by fundamentalist rhetoric. It is not therefore difficult to believe, that with a certain oppressive and strict religious upbringing in an abusive household, the two can ignite something very dangerous. Serial killers are not unknown to be heavily influenced by religion, while some are heavily religious, but don't portray this in their crimes. Dennis Rader was president of the Christ Lutheran Church, no doubt teaching 'goodwil' to all men, while slaughtering his victims in unimaginable ways. The evident lack of contradiction in his actions plainly lacking. So, I suppose, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Zodiac was nurtured in a strong religious setting by oppressive parents, in a manner that warped his very understanding of life, that shaped his very nature, and manifested in his murders to which he saw as a just cause. The thin line between religious fundamentalism and murder is evident in everything that is bad in the world today.

Ray Jenkins
2/20/2018 02:13:32 am

Yes indeed. I think you misunderstand me, so I will re-phrase it. I think he was extremely eclectic, to the point of "cherry picking" from whatever religion or religions/sects he belonged to, or, at least, aspired to belong to, and/or was influenced by. Basically he wanted to believe what he wanted to believe in order to give legitimacy to his crimes, perhaps to the point that he became so deluded that he believed he was "doing God's work" or was God. None of this makes him a genius theologian. Probably he was an amateur at theology at best. A lot of religious people are amateurs because they tend to cherry pick from their own belief systems. Rader and the Zodiac were extreme examples. It is possible to pin down Rader's beliefs. More difficult to pin the Zodiac to any one religion or belief system. He is all over the place, ranging from pseudo-astrological, Celtic-pagan, Celtic-Christian, elements of Freemasonry and possibly Satanism, even some ancient Egyptian religious references. So I say again, very eclectic, probably not Fundamentalist, highly cherry picked, and crazy as a backyard mule that's been eating magic mushrooms. lol!

''To create a popularized myth of himself so that he seemed legendary in the eyes of the public.''

This goes a long way to explain Zodiac's goals and methods,in ''selling'' himself.

Well put,Ray.

Judith N Chapman

Hardly Jesus, more like Satan incarnate. Jesus is seen as an equal and God is too busy to see what the killer does... there is no religion. He will not get into heaven.

Richard
2/19/2018 10:53:34 pm

If there was a heaven Judith, Zodiac would probably join a long list of people not reaching it. In fact, I would imagine it has a very small membership.

Ray Jenkins
2/20/2018 02:35:26 am

That is because he was nuts. Crazy people sometimes believe they are doing the work of God or Jesus, and that is the problem. In their minds they are doing the work of God and will go to some kind of Heavenly paradise. They cherry pick from their religion to give legitimacy to their crimes.

Many people have speculated that the killer of Cheri Jo Bates was a devout Lutheran, because the first part of the desktop poem comes straight from the words of Martin Luther. It is word for word phrasing in fact, and Luther wrote those phrases many times. He wrote that he was "Sick of living" and "Unwilling to die". The belief at the root of Luther's words is that it is a sin to be unwilling to die before God. One must be willing to accept death from the Divine hand at any second and go willingly. Luther claims that he was sick of living and yearned for God to strike Him down at any moment, and if God should command it, he would go willingly. It is a strange belief system for many, but is actually at the heart of Lutheran theology. Having been raised a Lutheran myself, I know this to be true. Apparently, in Luther's view, a good Christian must be willing to accept death, and it is a sin to be unwilling to die if it goes against God's Will.

It would almost appear as though the Zodiac turned this theological perspective on its head. He considered himself the Hand of God with the ability to strike people down so that they could serve him in his afterlife. Basically he became God's executioner, and by default, God himself.

It is interesting that in later correspondence the Zodiac warned the public that they should keep their daughters and wives at home, because he could not control what might happen to them if he came across them. There is some plausibility to this as a motive, because he did seem to target young couples alone at night in parked cars, or a couple alone in a secluded spot by a lake, for example. He seemed to target known "lovers lanes". The idea does fit that kind of quasi-religious profile... except perhaps for when we come to the Stine murder.

Rubislaw 32 link
2/21/2018 03:22:59 am

Yes Judith....sometimes it seems that these religious followers, had more ''loose screws'',than Zodiac [?].

Carl Karas link
2/20/2018 06:36:23 am

If Kane wrote the Z texts, as a Jew in a time when Jews were considered 2nd class citizens, the use of Christian symbols may reflect an extreme resentment of the Christian faith. He changed his name to hide his own heritage after all. As many did- I had an uncle who changed his Ukrainian name to Kaye, and I shortened my own on the advice of my father, who'd experienced some real discrimination. The influence of Satanists was strong in the late 60s Bay Area and that might have been another influence. Unfortunately all this nonsense is making a comeback in USA, Poland and other countries.

The consistent thing I find with Zodiac is his sardonic sense of humor- he is having a good (very psychotic) chuckle at the whole thing. The school bus threat, the Rube Goldberg-like bomb diagram, the paraphrased Mikado, as examples, seem to have been just sick terroristic jokes, taunts directed at the public and the police for his very personal amusement. It's important to keep in mind when analyzing the symbolism he used

Rubislaw 32 link
2/20/2018 06:42:51 am

Just to add something to the mix, more than anything....

About two years ago,I was swapping correspondence with a man,who would have been about 8 years old,in 1969.

His parents were both members of Anton La Vey's Church of Satan,in San Francisco.

He claims to have been sexually abused,as part of the ritualistic sides to the church, and further claims that adult followers, freely offered up their children, for this sort of purpose.

He was one of three children born to his parents. He happened to be born with straw blonde hair and striking blue eyes. His parents were admired,by the church, for ''this Aryan child''.

When the terror reign of Zodiac was at its height, there was increased bussing of children, provided by local councils.Particularly, with school runs.

He remembers walking home from school,on his own,and often on warm days. His parents expressly wished him to do this.

With the Church of Satan, there was a feeling that the coming of Zodiac, was the coming of the Son of Satan.Suddenly ''they'' might have, what the Christian Church had longed for in the coming of the Son of God.

So,only now, does this man realise that his parents actually hoped that he might get abducted, when returning from school. His parents would then have been seen,as the ones who successfully offered up a sacrifice to the Zodiac....i.e. the perceived Son of Satan.

In addition,he remembers buttons with Zodiac signs, being handed out at the church. So,though Zodiac had tried,in vain,to persuade the newspapers to provide Zodiac buttons, universally, the Church of Satan, were apparently wearing them, with pride.

One has to wonder, whether Zodiac knew about this [?].Whether, perhaps,he gatecrashed a Church of Satan service,or two [?].

I think it most unlikely that Zodiac was a subscribed member of the church.

So,he may have bought in to it,as a red herring tool of influence, but I suspect his goals and horizons, would have been far greater.

Across the Universe [?]

Ray Jenkins
2/20/2018 03:23:23 pm

We can but laugh at some of the nutty people out there! Wasn't it Don McLean who sang the lines: "I believe what I believe, isn't worth a dime!" or words to that effect?
I do however always feel very saddened by children who are forced to grow up in such surroundings. There is the danger of imprinting and brainwashing. Many see the light as they get older and turn away from the negative influences of their childhood. Others unfortunately do not, or they become highly confused and scarred for life. It is not hard to see how a serial killer could emerge from such a horrible mentally-stifling and controlling background.

Connolly
2/20/2018 02:38:08 pm

I see a strong reference to the occult in the "slaves for the afterlife" but I always took it as being sort of comic nonsense, or a, funny, weird thing. I think Kane was the Zodiac; and that he had a sick sense of humor. Kane was pulled over by officer Tom Hannah for driving erratically an hour after abducting Dana Lull - her body was slumped in the front seat of the little sports car https://lawrencekane.wordpress.com Kane joked they were dead tired.{pl} And Hannah believed she was just sleeping and let him go with a warning. Kane drove away laughing like crazy.{pl} The point is there are many examples of both Kane and the Zodiac joking around and taunting the police. As for the {pl} it says I took poetic license with the previous sentence. Many people say Kane was a smooth talking salesman whom could sell ice to an Eskimo.{pl} Please tell me where I'm off track.

Rubislaw 32 link
2/20/2018 03:04:51 pm

I don't presume that you are off track,Connolly.....on all matters, apart from Kane being Zodiac.

Being Zodiac would have been too much hard work for Kane, with no returns worth having, for him.

He would have rather spent time getting a lady into bed,and then rifling through the contents of her handbag, when she was asleep.

Yes,I agree....''slaves in afterlife'' was part of the ''cartoonesque'' world, inside Zodiac's head.

It appealed to him to toy with, and tease the authorities.

He was educated and well read, but ultimately came across as a bore, when he tried to articulate himself.

Extortion and terrorising folk, gave him a new lease of life, worth having.

But then,what do I know [?].

Ray Jenkins
2/20/2018 03:17:25 pm

I agree RS.

If anything, I see Kane as the great Zodiac wannabe. I am sure he was the kind of criminal who might have got off on insinuating he was the Zodiac, or at least implying he was a Zodiac-esque personality type through his behavior. Perhaps he liked to tease and terrorize innocent women and make them feel paranoid? He may have basked in the notoriety of seeming like some "larger than life" criminal mastermind that he was not. As for him being the actual Zodiac, I have many doubts. I would need some pretty hard evidence presented to me before I would ever commit to a belief that Kane was Z.

As for Tom Horan, well he has the watertight theory. doesn't he? I mean, who needs proof when something is all just a big hoax, right? LOL!!!

Such an overly-simplistic, extremely narrow, bombastic and blundering theory tends to leave gaps the size of the Grand Canyon in its wake. It also tends to make a complete mockery of the victims and law enforcement, and does nothing to satisfy the questions the victims families and the public will continue to keep asking.

Just incidentally, I recently purchased for myself a SLAVA brand watch from the Soviet era. The watches were really designed to be "the people's timepiece" and were popularly referred to as "SLAVA LAVAS". I find it interesting that if we look at a watch theme, we have the Zodiac as a popular Western watch, and we have Slava as the most popular eastern block watch. Not sure if anything can be made of this. Just thought it could be worth noting.

I think Allen lost his watch in 1966.
Then his mom bought him the Zodiac watch.

I know he was eliminated for most of the murders.
But at LB he had bloody knife.
Has any testing for DNA been done on those items?

Good question? One would assume that the police tested any such residues thoroughly, but it the amount of obvious things that fell through the cracks in the Zodiac case may surprise many. There really should be some kind of judicial enquiry into the Zodiac case, so that all of the existing evidence can be collated and any jurisdictional omissions addressed.

I have never felt strongly about Allen as a suspect. Then again I have never been able to rule him out. He is like some nagging thorn in the side that just never goes away.

The States With the Most Serial Murder
By Samuel Stebbins and Thomas C. Frohlich October 30, 2015 11:57 am EST

From the infamous targeting of prostitutes by Jack the Ripper in London during the 1880s to the Beltway sniper attacks in the Washington metro area in 2002, serial killing is not a recent phenomenon nor is it isolated to any single geography. In the United States — the country with by far the most documented cases of serial killing — there have been approximately 2,625 serial killers, who have together killed many more victims.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), serial killers tend to operate in defined geographical areas. Based on the Serial Killer Database, produced through a partnership of Radford University and the Florida Gulf Coast University, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the states with the highest numbers of documented victims of serial killers since 1900, adjusted for population. While the 51 total serial killings in Alaska is not an especially high number compared with the rest of the country, adjusted for historical population levels, the state leads the nation with the most serial killings.

The public’s interest in serial killers far exceeds the actual incidence of serial killing. Serial killers — such as the famously nicknamed Zodiac Killer, Green River Killer, Angel of Death, or Boston Strangler — have garnered a remarkable level of public attention. {population per capita}

The big question Connolly is "WHY so many in the USA?"

Something to do with rapid population growth, a general malaise, a "gun culture", a society that owes its evolution in part to violence and bloodshed: historical wars with the French, the English, the Spanish (Mexico), the original inhabitants of the land (the so-called "Indian Wars"), then a ghastly and protracted Civil War based on economic and moral issues, pitting brother against brother, then the "Wild West" frontier culture and the Gold Rush era. Add in the numerous wars starting with WW2, then Vietnam and Korea, which were all filled with horror and horrendous loss of life. Do all of these things in the history of a nation add up to a propensity for serial killers to come into being? I have no answers. Like most people, I can only ponder the reasons and shed a quiet tear.

Greg

It is an interesting question Ray. I attribute the proliferation of late 20th century U.S. serial killers to cultural factors. I think the rise of television and the portrayal of the newfound 'normalcy,' i.e. who would should be and how we ought to be living, created something rotten in the minds of individuals who were either left behind or for whom this strict social construct did not produce the bliss seen in product advertisements and programs of the day. You in turn, had a significant underbelly of mentally ill people who went untreated, and even those who were may have been let down or made worse by the relatively primitive psychiatric practices of the day. In any case, I think the idyllic American fantasy you see in those old shows from the 50s thru the 70s, and the role they played in shaping worldviews actually may have had a hugely detrimental effect in the way they offered outsider individuals little hope or alternative of honest self-expression. These impulses may have been redirected with rage toward the oppressive society and those they saw as living the dream and responsible for their lonesome plight.

Obviously the problem in America still exists today, but it is not serial killers we worry about. The new issue, of course, is the phenomenon of active shooter situations. Media attention and exposure, I believe, as was the case with serial killers of yesteryear, is a major motivating factor.

One hundred years before the first murder in 1968 a secret group had there first meeting in 1868.
it was a meeting of 12 of the most powerful Rothschild shills in the USA. The name of the group is the Zodiac Club. This can only yet be another co-incidence of course. the zodiac victims were not sacrificial demarcations, datum, Axis Mundis stuff. They were not something unusual - of course not? They were just random serial killers/killer phenomenon. Not!

More conspiracy theories involving secret societies. If true, one could assume that Americans have (had?) far too much spare time on their hands to waste on such trivial pursuits. It is not unusual for serial killers to reference or pay homage to previous serial killers, whether they be real, partly real, or imagined. But this seems like a stretch to me. The myths about the Rothschild family were actually first propagated and peddled by anti-Semitic Fascists. Enough said! https://www.thejc.com/news/news-features/the-rothschilds-the-banks-and-antisemitism-the-truth-and-the-myths-1.450112

This was very interesting and although I agree. It is however impossible to speak critically about any of the semitic groups without being labeled antisemitic. Honestly, have you nothing but compliments for Israel? We must put an end to these middle east wars pushed by Israel.

I notice the Pace card was first published in the papers about Oct. 13. (before the Halloween card)

I also notice from what I have seen, the back side of the card of the card or the Apollo 8 stamp was not shown or mentioned before the Halloween Card was shown in the papers.

The pace card and the Halloween card both have an Apollo 8 stamp which links the two. The Apollo 8 stamp was issued on May 5, 1969 so it was not a new lets use it stamp.

I notice that Tahoe does not think the Halloween card is valid Zodiac.
But whoever put it together did know about the quadrant potential solution to the 340.

The Apollo 8 stamp was shown in the newspapers prior to the Halloween card Shawn. It featured in the San Francisco Chronicle on October 12th 1969. Link above.

Thanks Richard.

After two days detectives determine it was a Zodiac communication? I like to know what they knew.

Zodiac did use the term “crack proof” again in the traditionally handwritten Zodiac badlands letter. I don’t think he would copy a hoaxer.

This case has so much info to it, sometimes it is hard to keep remembering all the facts that tie everything together.

Jake Wark wrote this...(not saying you did not too)

"Though originally dismissed as a hoax, certain phrases from this card are repeated in later confirmed Zodiac letters, particularly the word "crackproof," which would appear in a letter to the Los Angeles Times five months later. The juxtaposition of the letters "FK" also repeat in the Zodiac literature, frequently in the two long ciphers and in the hieroglyph that closes the "Exorcist" letter of 1974. Literary analysis notwithstanding, the card was soon judged to be genuine because it announced a body count of 13 -- the number given in the Zodiac's last letter, which had not been made public."
