Don Fouke made several statements back in the 70's suggesting He and Eric did not pass through Maple on Jackson Street and swing left at Cherry but they did, in fact, "Proceed to Arguello Street continuing our search." Don continues by then offering: "Upom arriving at Arguello the suspects description was changed to that of a White Male and believing this person (He'd just passed on the Hill) was possibly the suspect we continued on to West Pacific Avenue which had a lot of foliage."

My own personal belief is that Don sped up passed Cherry to Arguello based on the directions given to Him by The Helpful and finger pointing 'witness.' Zodiac stated He directed them uphill peeling rubber then makes a comment that is important in determining where He is standing at the time He is accosted by A Blue Meanie in His Prowl Car stating "They peeled rubber and went around the Corner as I had directed them." End Quote.

So, Zodiac is making a statement of fact in reply to Chief Of Inspectors Martin Lee's claim He, The shooter, was nowhere in the area and that He is simply an out and out liar. So, look at the image above that is the point of view and the potential distance in terms of visibility uphill from a standing position at Jackson & Maple Intersection. Notice that the Arguello Intersect. is not anything close to within view for Zodiac if He is stood here, so can we assume the corner He spesaks of observing the car turn at is Cherry? It is the only corner that is within view from Maple Intersect. on Jax St. Does the letter writer refer or imply to the corner of Cherry St? Well, if He did then we'd have a witness affirming to the questioning Cop that yes, He has seen a man running by with a gun as it happens and He ran up hill turned left and onto Cherry Street and heading straight back to the scene from whence He so recently departed. Don's BS Detector would have been activated if the helpful witness said He saw a gun waving nut run by heading back to His crime scene. So, He can only be implying that Arguello was the corner He observed the vehicle go around and that being the case, Zodiac is at or a few yards away from Jackson & Cherry Intersection when the encounter takes place and not, as Fouke alleges, at Jackson & Maple.

Once again if this be the case, it puts to rest a long standing and annoyingly persistent question I couldn't answer with satisfaction of "Why does this man wait for Don's roof-top light flashing, air-raid sound omitting ear drum damaging noise and all round mobile discotech to be virtually in front of Him before He decide's 'Now it's time to take evasive action....Now they have seen me as I am 4 feet away.
Zodiac halfway along/down the Hill between Cherry & Maple Streets on Jackson could and almost certainly would see Don coming from the proverbial and literal Mile Away. He wouldn't wait until Fouke & Zelms are right in front of Him before turning to duck onto a homes entrance, He's do this way before Don got anywhere close to His position on the sidewalk.

If the absconder is just turning off Cherry onto Jackson Street around that very blind 90 degree corner however when the Blue Meanies Car is just approaching Cherry intersection then......No time to take avoiding action, and we stand now in a place where Arguello is no longer out of the line of vision for Zodiac!

Thank you G, much appreciated. I think I worked it out now. To write text while constructing an article, you must hover the mouse cursor over 'TEXT' option, hold the left click down and drag the text box into the area which you wish to write text in. No idea why this is and it's take several days 72 hours to get around to using 'Getting Started' app to see a demo.

However, let there be Text, and there was text!

Looks fine. Soon I shall send you a normal regular page. I will show you how to copy your blog work onto this page in case of accidents. Then when your article is fully published you can delete the copied work. At the start you will encounter problems as with any new system, but after a while it will be second nature and until that point I will correct any problems Alex. Happy posting..

One more thing Welsh, at the bottom of the menu is 'post options' where you add categories to your posts. I added Presidio Heights murder for you. Just type in your category and enter. So if you do a story that involves lets say Lake Herman Road, Presidio Heights and the 340 Cipher, then select these as categories for the article. It allows people to search for articles in the blog sidebar for particular topics.

Are you convinced of Zodiac being at or near the corner of Jackson and Cherry when Zodiac directed Fouke and Zelms. Donald Fouke would have to be mistaken on several counts. Mistaken in his scratch saying "When the right description was broadcast reporting officer informed communications that a possible suspect had been going north on Maple into the Presidio."
Mistaken in his his 1989 appearance saying "We proceeded on Jackson Street towards Arguello continuing our search, as we arrived at Arguello Street the description of the suspect was changed to a white male adult, believing this suspect was possibly the one involved in the shooting we entered the Presidio of San Francisco and conducted a search on West Pacific Avenue, the opposite side of the wall and the last direction we observed the suspect going, we did not find the suspect."
Mistaken in the 2007 documentary saying that as he was approaching Maple "Before I saw him (the white male on Jackson St) I was traveling probably about 35-40 mph, slowed down as we passed him, saw it was a white male, step on the gas, 5,10,15 seconds tops."
Mistaken in the 2007 documentary mentioning 3712 Jackson Street. I know these stories are not compatible, but they all refer to a sighting somewhere near the Jackson and Maple intersection, none say Jackson and Cherry. Have you now switched allegiance my noble Sir Welsh based on Graysmith and your points in the above article. Even Zodiac would be wrong saying "3 mins after I left the cab", as it only would have took Zodiac 1 minute to reach Jackson and Cherry. Has your position shifted 2 minutes along the road or are you playing devils advocate to explore an, as yet unexplored line of thought. Pray bequeath upon me thine explanation my good sir.

A. I have to do what I try to do always, look at all available evidence and make determination on whichever has the more evidence or grounds to believe it is the more likely.....So answer, Yes.

Can't overlook both Z & Don agreed in their claims that Don "Proceeded toward Arguello blah blah blah we proceeded to West Pacific Avenue."
Zodiac: "They peeled rubber & went around the corner..."

Outcome: Given that One cannot see the corner/Intersection of Jackson & Arguello if One is at or anywhere near Jackson & Maple, the question leaves little room for any alternative other than Zodiac being much further up and close to Cherry on Jackson when Don and He have their Close Encounter of The WMA Kind.

Funny enough Rich, and this I post simply for purposes of me having a rant, I really hate that type of intelligence insulting by saying/claiming something to be that of which it clearly is not.

Case and Point, Cameron tells us He's Head of a Government that is Democratic in Nature. Ask David what the definition of Democracy is and His reply would be 'Sorry, a Demo-What?'

The definition of democracy is A Society where-by the power rests soley with the people/society within that Country who elect representatives to ensure that that Societies wishes are put in place.
Now we can, if we so wish, pretend that Mr Cameron and His Posh Friends only pass New Legislation through Parliament on our, the publics, wishes or say so and that would be living in a delusional bubble and not reality based at all. When does The Legislation they want to pass through Parliament & Enacted into Law get run bus Us? I, for one, would raise a serious objection to literally hundreds of new Legal Legislation given the Force of Law every single year that is both only know to me and you after it becomes an Act or Criminal Statute, 9 and a half out of ten of which are revenue generation for Dick Head Dave in the form of a Fine for this & fixed penalty for that.

Even the definition of Legislation or Legislative Rule is: "A Rule of a Society which be given the force of Law when consented to by the Governed."

Silly example I know, but Motorcycle Day Corse is abbreviated to CBT....Compulsory Basic Training. The word Compulsory has no place within a true democratic society. Compulsory means you, the free citizen with complete free will, has not choice and must do what those elected to serve Society tell you must and you have no choice.....Their way, or no way!
I would have preferred to learn with a private motorcyclist with experience on private land who won't charge me extortionate amounts of money to sit the course if its all the same Mr Elected Democratic Governance what is elected to serve Us, The People.....Ohh, threat of banged up and seizure of, no, Theft of property and said property crushed if you don't do that which is non negotiable.

When your told something is compulsory and you MUST do it, that is a clear example of dictatorship and having your choice or freedom to decide removed and replaced with One Option ordered upon you by the Freedom loving and absolutely non cynical Government.
America and the right of Citizens to keep and bear arms was added to the US Constitution by the Founding Fathers for one sole reason, a reason they added to that Constitutional Right and it was to ensure that no Democratic Governing Body go rouge and enact an iron fist rule of dictatorship by force. Arming the people to fight back will and does deter that ever happening!

It has and will always be the case those in power will always feather their own nest and I will refer to America here, since it is more relevant from the perspective of this case and to the majority of visitors to this site, who the majority of which will vehemently disagree with the following. The people who vote in the elected, vote in a broad sweep of policies, but then do not have a vote on every individual decision thereafter. If we let the public have a referendum on the death penalty, it may get voted in and just because the majority vote for something doesn't make it right. The reason I say this is because if we used this principle America would still have separate water fountains for black people shortly after it was abolished. This was the given 50/60 years ago, but it was wrong. The majority in America believe in God and atheists in certain areas are regarded as the worst of the worst, but it doesn't mean Christians are right and we run a very dangerous game when we operate a country based on superstition and majority opinion. The USA delivers a constitution separating the state from religion, from a secular standpoint, however this is often ignored and when other religious groups or non religious people point this out, it suddenly becomes an attack on Christianity and the majority start mobilizing, including the extremely hateful Fox News. Power is a corrupting influence not only in politicians, but in the police force. The disturbing cocktail of weapons in the hands of police and citizens is born out everyday in the USA with in excess of 1,000 mass shootings in 2015, this is what happens when you hand power to the citizens. The second amendment was initially meant as a preventative measure to guard against subversive government, it was not meant as a license for lunatics to carry out mass attacks on innocent people on a daily basis. This constitutional right is abused regularly and what about the constitutional rights of the innocents of say Sandy Hook or Columbine who got their heads blasted off. You often see advocates argue that more guns will make everybody safer. These advocates and politicians as you know get hefty campaign backhanders from the NRA and then on the other hand express their condolences to the families. They don't give a f..k about the families destroyed by gun violence, just the money in their back pocket. Their are a lot of 2nd amendment advocates who will completely disagree with my opinion and this is not meant to be a USA bashing exercise, we are moulded by growing up in two distinctly different countries, just like Iraq, Iran etc, we are 'indoctrinated' on some level to be who we are. That is why America is a God fearing country, hold 2nd amendment rights and many states have the death penalty, all of which are alien to me, but they have a right to believe in all three in a democratic country. But from my standpoint doesn't make it right and if the people voted on every individual topic then their would be no point in having a president or prime minister, the people would just enter their votes into a computer and what fell out would be law and that would be a very dangerous path to tread. If Donald Trump ever became president of the USA we would end up with all Muslims being targeted, Mexicans being ring fenced, widespread persecution and fascism of a scale I cannot comprehend, being a person of acceptance to all peaceful creeds and colours. He would have been democratically elected by a majority, but I'm sorry it doesn't make the majority right. You see what power does in the police force, regular shootings of people, by effectively a posse of out of control criminals, and backed up by an equally corrupt police department. When a supermarket can effectively expel a 9 year old girl from the premises for licking an ice cream, while a fully grown man is is lawfully allowed 'open carry' of an automatic rifle on the same premises, I'm sorry the world has gone mad.

Rich I imagine you are familiar with the case of Derek Bentley?

For years and years the sentence of death He got given is not disputed as to it's non-justification, that being A Police Officer was shot and killed, the shooter was 16 and too young to receive The Death Sentence Himself and so His Co-Conspirator and On scene Co-hort was given death as His sentence despite no argument or denial from Police That He was in custody on scene aka Under Arrest when PC Miles was shot.
The debate for years was the meaning or intent of Derek's declaration of "Let Him Have it Chris" and if He meant give the cop the gun Chris or, let him have it as in, shoot the cop now!

Christopher Craig has been released and was asked about Derek shouting this and He adamantly dismissed that Derek said that or, in fact, said anything at all. He was given a lie detector/polygraph test and was asked "Did you hear Derek shout an order to yourself of 'Let Him Have It?" Craig answered "No" and was telling the truth.

Several coppers gave sworn statements that thy heard Derek shout this until the Cop who was in the side ally where His fellow cop was ascending the side of the building up the fire escape came out and challenged that cop's testimony who claimed that as He was almost at the top/roof level, He heard Bentley shout this phrase. The ally cop response....Rubbish! He Himself would have had to hear any such remark also and He heard nothing of the kind!

My Point?

Well it's bad enough a genuine wrongful conviction with death sentence would ever be handed down, and again this by way of a honest mistake but you also have this type of revenge seeking motivated lying sworn testimony of several cops!

I couldn't agree with the philosophy more that says:

"Better 10 Guilty men go free than one innocent get put to death"

Derek Bentley was going to hang because He was 19, an age appropriate for the sentence. The fact He was slow with mental age of eight to nine was neither here nor there, A Cop is dead and someone will swing as a result!
The Jury found Derek Guilty yes, but Guilty with a recommendation for mercy. Up to that point in UK trial history a death sentence had never once been given where a Jury recommended mercy.
The final letter written by a warden on behalf of Derek (Himself couldn;t read nor write) is enough to make any grown man fill up.
