HEAVEN SENT

3/8/2018

THE 340 CIPHER WAS CRACKED ON DECEMBER 3RD 2020 BY DAVE ORANCHAK, SAM BLAKE AND JARL VAN EYCKE, SO THIS EARLIER ARTICLE SHOULD BE VIEWED IN RESPECT TO RECENT DEVELOPMENTS.
Picture
The following will again be a little bit of mathematical trickery regarding the 'Halloween', '13 Hole' and 'Pines' cards- placing the number 888 (Jesus) alongside each and every one.  From the 408 cipher split into three lines of 8, the 'near Zodiac' on the 20th line of the 340 forming 888, the three 8's on the '13 Symbol' cipher, coupled with the same code being used to find 444 in the final two ciphers, we will now move on to the final three cryptic cards in the Zodiac repertoire. To understand this presentation, it is important to read two previous articles 'The Bible Code of a Killer' and '340 Cipher-Embedded Symmetry'.  However, it must be stressed that this is not claiming a definitive solve to the Zodiac mystery and must be viewed with a health warning.

Picture
In every correspondence mentioned above, it was claimed the Zodiac was attempting to place his name alongside the name of Jesus, the savior of souls for the afterlife: "All the (people) I have killed will become my slaves. I will not give you my name because you will try to slow down or stop my collecting of slaves for my afterlife." He wouldn't give us his name, but he may have given us Jesus. Here is the next cryptic correspondence with two unusual features, using the identical code employed to find 444 in both the final two canonical ciphers. The Zodiac again places his name alongside Jesus in the form of a messiah complex (also known as the Christ complex or savior complex).
Using the Zodiac code above, it was applied to the '13 Hole' postcard below, giving out the figures 43+120+347+36+342 = 888.
Jesus, the savior of souls, is now firmly alongside the Zodiac Killer once again. You will notice that the number 13 has been converted to one and three. This is done to transfer it into text form (to enter into the Zodiac code), exactly the same technique employed in the two previous ciphers, where the Omega, Taurus and Aries symbols were also converted into text form.
If we had left the figure 13 alone, that line would have totaled 360 (the degrees in a circle). Giving us 13 and 360 (13 punch holes).

Picture
The next correspondence was the 'Halloween' card mailed on October 27th 1970. But this marked a deviation in the Zodiac's thinking. He was now likely trying to simplify things in an effort to push us towards Jesus- Hallelujah.
In the flap of the envelope he writes "sorry no cipher" twice, in the form of a multiplication sign. He could easily have written  "sorry no cipher" once, but evidently wanted to form the multiplication sign as an offering to our savior. If there was no cipher, then there is no code. The only 'cipher-like code' on the 'Halloween' card is the configuration of letters (not dissimilar to the "sorry no cipher" offering). The Zodiac intersected Paradice and Slaves, with four quadrants containing the words By Fire, By Gun, By Rope and By Knife. Was the word By a form of multiplication.

Picture
Using the path of least resistance we added up the letters in the 'cipher-like code', which totaled 37, and multiplied it by "sorry no cipher", placing it over the cross of Paradice and Slaves, as both formed a similar design. There are 24 letters in the four quadrants, giving us 37 X 24 = 888.
There were 37 letters in the 'cipher-like code' and we needed a number to multiply it by. In this case 24.
The next postcard was the 'Pines card' mailed on March 22nd 1971. If the Zodiac was simplifying matters, then this card would follow the identical technique displayed in the 'Halloween' card.
The 'Pines' card offered a set of 5 phrases.[1] 'Sierra Club'  [2] 'Sought Victim [3] 'Peek through the pines' [4] 'pass Lake Tahoe areas'  [5] 'around in the snow.'
The letters on this card would add up to exactly double the amount on the 'Halloween' card- exactly 74.
We again needed a number to multiply it by. So let us take a punt on the figure 12 which the Zodiac supplied.
74 X 12 = 888 once again.

Picture
But would the old Zodiac code resurface in one final offering on the 'Pines' card front- pushing us in both directions.
The Zodiac drew our attention to Paul averly=chronicle.
Using the Zodiac code at the top of this page:
PAUL AVERLY = 3162 155522 = 32
CHRONICLE = 365215325 = 32
Thereby giving us PAUL AVERLY=CHRONICLE.

This completes the 888 and 444 sequence through seven cryptic Zodiac communications. But whether it is really there, or just a case of mathematical trickery and wordplay, is something only Zodiac knows.
Maybe the afterlife holds all the answers.

THE BIBLE CODE OF A KILLER
PictureCeltic Cross
The Zodiac created four ciphers, of which only one has ever been solved and confirmed by overwhelming consensus.
The third code is simply too short to achieve any meaningful decryption and the 'Button' letter '32 Symbol' code has only three repeating characters, making these two codes, without a key, effectively unbreakable. If we had the key however, then we would be back in business.
It is perfectly reasonable after the solve by Donald Gene and Bettye June Harden in the August of 1969, to believe that all the remaining ciphers contain a message, after all, what would be the point of them other than a joke on Zodiac's part.
It is my contention that the remaining three ciphers are all probably linked by religion, and Jesus Christ in particular.
The Zodiac chose a Celtic Cross style moniker, talked of "paradice" and the "afterlife," and placed crucifix style designs in his 'Halloween' and '13 Hole' postcards. You could say the Zodiac Code was the forerunner to the Da Vinci Code.
The key to the Zodiac Code is the previously discussed '13 Symbol' cipher, where the Zodiac splits the alphabet A through M to expose perfect symmetry in the third cipher. This is the template we shall use in the '13 Symbol' and '32 Symbol' ciphers, and in both instances arrive at exactly the same holy number.
The Zodiac crosshairs can be noted in every cipher or code, so it is imperative we derive a mathematical figure for this moniker. But first we shall present the Zodiac Code that will be used on both ciphers.

Picture
The alphabet on the right has been split symmetrically into two halves. A through M was used in the Embedded Symmetry article, in which only the numbers 3, 1 and 5 were ever generated. The number 315 can be generated in several ways using the Zodiac Killer communications, but the simplest way is to take the Zodiac horoscope.
The Zodiac used what appeared to be an upside-down Aries symbol on the April 20th 1970  '13 Symbol' cipher. Many people also considered that the three circled 8's were in fact three circled Taurus symbols. But the reason the Zodiac Killer circled them, was possibly so they could be interpreted as both. Since we are dealing with the Zodiac horoscope, we will take the characters as one Aries and three Taurus symbols.

Picture
On the left is the Zodiac horoscope placed into the Zodiac Code (above).
This generates the figure 315 for the Zodiac crosshairs.
Because we will be using Aries and Taurus in the '13 Symbol' cipher, I will explain how to arrive at the figures in brackets:
ARIES = A+R+I+E+S = 1+5+5+5+6 = 22.
TAURUS = T+A+U+R+U+S = 7+1+6+5+6+6 =31.
ARIES =22, TAURUS = 31.

Before we move on it is important to mention the following again.
'In Christian numerology, the number 888 represents Jesus, or sometimes more specifically Christ the Redeemer. This representation may be justified either through gematria, by counting the letter values of the Greek transliteration of Jesus' name, or as an opposing value to 666, the number of the beast. Wikipedia.
In English gematria the figure for Jesus is 444'.
If the Zodiac was creating his own bible code and referencing the rebirth of Christ using the number 8 for infinity, one would hope to find the figure 444 in the '13 Symbol' cipher shown below.

Let us proceed and place the numbers alongside the relevant characters (see below).
Notice again how the alphabetical characters only produce the figures 3, 1 and 5, as does the figure 315 representing the Zodiac crosshairs.
The total value of the '13 Symbol' cipher is 444, representing Jesus.

Picture
Picture
We shall now move on to the '32 Symbol' cipher mailed just two months after the previous cipher. It contained only three repeating characters, the letter C, the letter O and the clear triangle, making it impossible to solve without a recognized key.
This led me to believe that these two ciphers were only solvable by some form of mathematical key.
Below I have used the same technique, using the Zodiac Code, representing the letters of the '32 Symbol' cipher by numbers. The Zodiac crosshairs are again attributed the 315 value and the Aries symbol the figure 22 once more. This time however, we have an Omega symbol, so we have to attribute it a figure.
OMEGA = O+M+E+G+A = 2+1+5+7+1 = 16. The six geometric shapes in the '32 Symbol' cipher cannot be attributed a name, and therefore cannot be attributed a value. They have been marked with a red X.
You can see below, that when the numerical values are added up we arrive at the figure 444 once again.
Zodiac representing the figure 888, and both the remaining ciphers totaling 888. Whether it be 444 or 888, the reference to Jesus or Jesus Christ through the bible code of the Zodiac Killer is certainly possible.

Picture
The '408' cipher was divided up into three parts and mailed to the San Francisco Chronicle, Vallejo Times-Herald and San Francisco Examiner newspapers, but the final 18 characters of this cipher were unable to be decoded. Many speculated as to whether this was just filler to create three equal parts of 8 lines. Was this the rudimentary beginnings of 888, that he would carry through to his remaining ciphers and the name Zodiac itself?
340 CIPHER- EMBEDDED SYMMETRY
Picture
This is a rehash of earlier articles concerning the 340 cipher and 13 Symbol cipher, regarding their symmetry and correlation to one another. If you are familiar with the 888 theory, then you need go no further.
The 340 cipher was the second cipher mailed on November 8th 1969- the 13 symbol cipher was the third cipher mailed on April 20th 1970, separated by just over five months. The Zodiac would refer to his 340 cipher at the beginning of the April 20th letter, stating: "This is the Zodiac speaking. By the way have you cracked the last cipher I sent you. My name is...."
This could be a simple clue leading into his new cipher, however, the author of the letter is highly unlikely to submit his real name. In addition, it is simply too short a code to be verifiable, and the Zodiac Killer must surely have known this if he had any rudimentary knowledge of code breaking. But with a clue or key affixed to the 13 symbol code, then we may have a chance.
Up to this point in time we only knew the murderer by the pseudonym Zodiac, so let us complete the introduction on the April 20th 1970 letter: "This is the Zodiac speaking. By the way have you cracked the last cipher I sent you. My name is Zodiac."  This however sounds a little flawed, so it is imperative we replace Zodiac with an alternative, something possibly embedded within the name Zodiac itself.

The 340 cipher has been entered into every powerful computer known to man with no solution being found, leading many people to believe it has no solution at all, and is in effect total 'gibberish.'  I don't know about the entirety of the 340 cipher, but the final twentieth line of the cipher does contain perfect symmetry in six of the final eight characters. In addition eight of the final nine characters are effectively carried forward from the 340 cipher to the 13 Symbol cipher, linking cipher two and cipher three together. In the 13 Symbol cipher he did refer to "My name is..," so we will look for his pseudonym in the 340 cipher and take this as the clue.
We already know that six symbols on the twentieth line of the 340 cipher look very similar to his pseudonym Zodiac, but was this unintentional or deliberate. To find this out we shall look at the symmetry of both ciphers.
The 13 symbol cipher from a character standpoint is extremely organized. It starts and ends with three alphabetical characters. The three circled 8's are symmetrically placed in positions 5, 7 and 9. The Zodiac symbol and 'upside down Aries' symbol are four in from either side. Either the Zodiac just happened upon this symmetry, or he designed it for purpose.
Bearing this symmetry in mind, we will look for a symmetrical answer in both the 340 cipher and 13 Symbol cipher, and in addition symmetry between the two.
The Zodiac Killer was undoubtedly an egotist, so it wouldn't be all that surprising if he used his own pseudonym in the clue, and embedded the answer within the name Zodiac. In the following examination I will be using the identical mathematical technique on both the 340 cipher and 13 Symbol cipher, to show perfect symmetry in both instances. It was this egotism that led me to believe the clue resided in the 'near' Zodiac on the twentieth line of the 340 cipher. So using a comparison technique, I placed the proper spelling of Zodiac under the 'near' Zodiac and simply counted the numerical alphabetical difference in the columns. But first let us take a look at the 13 Symbol cipher and note the bottom two lines in the diagram below.
Because of not only the existing symmetry within this cipher, but the fact it was thirteen characters in length, began with an A and ended with an M, along with Zodiac's penchant for word games, it seemed the obvious choice to place the first 13 letters of the alphabet under the cipher.
A to A = 0, B to E = 3, C to N = 11, F to K = 5, H to M = 5, K to N = 3, A to L = 11.
It is achieved by staying within the alphabet and counting the numerical distance between the letters. Obviously, when we do not have two alphabetical characters there can be no difference, so a zero is attributed. You could attribute an X, it actually makes no difference to the resulting symmetry.

Picture
Highlighted in red and green the obvious symmetry can be observed. But how likely can this be created by accident.
By taking the three circled 8's as H's, it can still be seen that only three natural numbers are ever produced - 3, 1 and 5.
How do we know if this is the technique that Zodiac employed? If we apply this technique to the 'near' Zodiac on the twentieth line of the 340 cipher using the correct spelling of Zodiac and it again produces perfect symmetry, then we have possibly bolstered our case. If, in addition, it produces something significant that relates to the 13 Symbol cipher, does it then become even more compelling? The most obvious choice this time is to place Zodiac underneath the six symbols on the twentieth line, like so:
Picture
Using the identical technique we used in the 13 Symbol cipher, we shall again count the numerical difference in the columns.
Z to Z = 0, O to O = 0, D to triangle = 0, I to A = 8, A to I = 8, C to K = 8.
That is three 0's and three 8's, carried forward to the 13 Symbol cipher on April 20th 1970. But that is not all.
Either side of the 'near' Zodiac on the twentieth line of the 340 cipher we have the crosshairs and an 'inverted Aries' in part.
Both of which are situated on the 13 Symbol cipher, either side of the circled 8's (shown in the red rectangular boxes above).
This means, that effectively eight characters out of the last nine were effectively carried forward from the 340 cipher to the 13 symbol cipher. It could be argued that the last eight characters of the 340 cipher were carried forward, the plus sign (+) at the end of the 340 cipher signifying their addition to the 13 Symbol cipher.
Zodiac is now represented by the three circled 8's. 'In Christian numerology, the number 888 represents Jesus, or sometimes more specifically Christ the Redeemer. This representation may be justified either through gematria, by counting the letter values of the Greek transliteration of Jesus' name, or as an opposing value to 666, the number of the beast.' Wikipedia. This may be important when we consider the Zodiac's tendency to speak of "paradise" and the "afterlife" in many of his communications, in particular his 408 cipher. He would also cross "paradice" and "slaves" in the form of a crucifix on the Halloween card, as well as pasting a red crucifix on the 13 Hole postcard.
You can see in the above diagram that the letters K and M are embedded within the three 8's and therefore embedded in the name Zodiac. Were these his initials, and was he elevating himself to divine status? He certainly had the ego for it.

# There are some additional features of interest:
The 408 cipher was divided up into three sections of 8 lines and mailed to three different newspapers.
The final line of the 408 cipher contains an M and reversed K.
The final line of the 340 cipher contains an M and reversed K.
The 13 Symbol cipher contains the letter M and K.
The final character at the end of each of the three communications of the 408 cipher is either an M or reversed K.
The top line of the 32 Symbol cipher mailed on
June 26th 1970 contains an M and reversed K.

An amazing presentation of a ''myriad of mathematics'',Richard.

Just the matter of the 13 hole card.....an opinion from you, would be good [?].

My interpretation of the 13 hole ''composite'' is that,in addition to the symbolism of 13 lives taken, that there is an attempt,by ''Zodiac'',to simulate the appearance of teletype tape....as was emitted,by teleprinters,in the day....with coded information.

What do you think ?

Richard
3/8/2018 06:36:30 am

Or the punch holes use by railway conductors. On May 29th 1973 the body of Rosa Vasquez (20) was discovered close to the Arguello boulevard entrance of the Golden Gate Park. Rosa Vasquez was also employed at the Letterman General Hospital as a keypunch operator.

Rubislaw 32 link

Yes....I think it narrows it down.

Beyond the ''13'' quantity,I believe its significance is ''simulation''.

Another one could be bullet holes,in a target...but it would seem to only appear credible,if there was a ''randomness'' to the grouping [?].

So,the ''orderly'' form,as in punch holes,or teletype, would appear to be the possible solutions.

Richard
3/8/2018 09:27:38 am

If they mean anything at all, other than signifying 13 victims, which is the likely answer, then we have to consider their distributor of 3 to 10. Does it have any correlation with the circled 8's on the '13 Symbol' cipher. Bullet holes seems a likely answer, similar to the hole in the 'Pines' card and the phrase "Around in the snow", possibly referencing the murder of Donna Lass. After all, his victim 12 count was a retrograde step, and the card seemed specific to her.

Drew

This is very comprehensive and digestible Richard and far less insane than it once seemed to me! Honestly, though not pitted directly against each other, it is more persuasive than the idea that all of these paste cards are from a dedicated hoaxer. As far out as it seems as a solution it is very compelling when attributed to so many correspondences and the more I understand it the harder it is to discount. The centrepiece of the theory for me is the symmetry of the My Name Is cipher. I think unless a key emerges from gematric encoding that can decrypt the 340 it may remain chained in the theory dungeon, but if there is any potential 340 solve that could stump sleuths and computers alike for decades, I can imagine it being like this, personally inventive yet empirically detectable and somehow intertwined with numerical substitution. Frustratingly though the idea that he was applying this strategy to only the tease on the 20th line of the 340 and left the rest chaotic would not seem particularly out of step for the Zodiac.

Richard
3/8/2018 12:33:17 pm

I tried to show the simplicity of 37X24 and 74X12, because it's so easy to twist figures around. It's not compelling but the best I can manage for now. The symmetry of the '13 Symbol' cipher before and after the decode has always been interesting to me, plus the 888 carry over from cipher 2 to cipher 3. The 340 cipher is a strange one, as the correction on the 6th line has always confounded me. If the 340 was a fake, or only the 20th line was relevant, why bother to correct the 6th line-just leave it, if it's irrelevant. Unless he was cleverer than we thought. For those who don't believe the 340 has been cracked, my personal opinion these days, is that it has been created so uniquely by the killer, he has made the code simply unsolvable, indicating his inexperience with ciphers, or that it only has a mathematical solution. I have worked harder on the '13 Symbol' cipher than anything over the last 3 years, because despite it small number of characters, it's symmetry on two fronts shows a deliberate design. It is however, all very well decoding it to a series of 1,3, and 5's, but if they don't mean anything, then we are left just where we started. It's a tough one Drew.

Richard

Because of the numbers 3, 6 and 9 around the Phillips map crosshairs, and bearing in mind his reference to angles, I got very interested in the Tesla Code of 3,6,9, where angles created within a circle always reduce to the number 9. The only whole number on the 340 (if not a backwards P).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inWnhZp_A-M

Drew
3/8/2018 02:16:29 pm

3-6-9 brings to mind time, navigation, inevitability, just like the cross circle symbol. There may not be an answer in the 340 (if Zodiac kept his ego in check and played it safe) but it would be thematically consistent for him to choose such a sequence. I would suggest 3-1-4 but in that case he probably would have called himself The Pi. The Tesla Code is a new concept for me but that video illustrates the magic number nine idea very well. I am going to have to let it percolate but one thing I am sure of is that ain't no backwards P in the 340 (we can see how he constructed backwards Ps in the 408) and it is a heck of a coincidence that in all of the ciphers 9 is the only number symbol he ever used (other than your encircled 8s). I also think that the relationship between the Exorcist symbols and the line 6 correction on the 340, unless it is the master stroke of a genius hoaxer who really did his homework, is too big a coincidence to ignore.

Richard
3/8/2018 02:46:58 pm

Yes, I agree about the Exorcist connection- although I would wouldn't I.
Regarding Pi and 3.14, Ray Grant's connection to 3.1415926 being a link to the CADOIZ and the anagram of Zodiac is very good regarding the crosshairs, circumference and diameter.
3=C, A=1, D=4, 15=O, 9=I and 26=Z.

Richard, have you ever evaluated the VPD solution to the 340? I just viewed it for the first time here.
http://www.zodiackillerfacts.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/VPD-340-solution.jpg

"You are getting closer than ever too catching me only I cannot arrange to meet with names no sir I to am through playing have a news tv or radio station tune to kgo tv at ten after seven am go to one or more at ot al of one that came to gather or meet with me."

KGO-TV is the station that aired the Dunbar show, the language flows nicely (although 'meet with names' sounds a bit unnatural) but I have no idea whether they used a consistent cryptology method to arrive at it. There is a thread about it on Tom's site from 2008 but no further information.

I should add that the VPD solution only decrypts the first 12 lines...

Richard

It reminds me of the History Channel version Drew, and inevitably falls apart. I don't knock these attempts, but after studying for ages, it really doesn't stack up.

Drew

Yes none of them are terribly convincing solutions. If there is a real message in there I doubt it would be of this sort. Thanks

Yes...bullets,as quantified,can't be discounted.

And the ''3 to 10'' distributor,is quite enticing for consideration [?].

I am really keying in to the word ''closeing'',at present,in the card.

Could this be a ''mischievous'' clue that Zodiac lived in a Close....as in ''Cul-de-sac'',''Dead end street'' or ''No exit road''.

Although we tend to take ''Cul-de-sacs'' for granted now, they were quite a new concept in urban planning, post WW2,for Occidental countries, such as USA,UK.

In the USA,Berkeley was considered a blueprint for modern post WW2 urban development.

On the 13 hole card,we have ''The pace''.

''The pace'' translates to ''El Paso'',in Mexican/Spanish.

''El Paso'' is the closest major town to Mexico,in the USA.

I have my own ideas about it,but ''deconstructivism'' can be a problem.

Just thought I would throw it in anyway [!].

I was trying to work out, where I had seen the symbol,on the front of the Pines Card; left-hand top, below the word ''zodiac''.

It is called ''The simple compass symbol'',and would normally be accompanied,by N,E,S,W.

This,in effect, the other side of the ''white hole'',appearing on the ''Peek through the pines'' image.

.....could it mean ''Zodiac without bearings'' ?

That is to say : ''Zodiac lost'' [?].

Richard
3/9/2018 03:26:44 am

It's extremely difficult to say Rubislaw, it could be as simple as Zodiac deciding on a variation. Kevin Robert Brooks highlighted the fact that his suspect Donald Lee Bujok was Zodiac and created the '13 Hole' postcard. Since Zodiac had already mailed the 'Little List' letter claiming 13 victims (although not published until Oct 12th), he would once again claim 13. But there was a big difference- he stated "it's just one big thirteenth". The sort of thing you say on an anniversary. Donald Lee Bujok was convicted of the murder of Deputy Otto Fossen on October 5th 1957, and the '13 Hole' postcard would be the 13th anniversary. The card stated "There are reports city police pig cops are closeing in on me. Fk I'm crackproof. What is the price tag now?"
I wonder: "There are reports city police pig cops are closeing in on me. Fossen knows I'm crackproof. What is the price tag now?"
The card also stated "Some of them fought, it was horrible".

Donald Lee Bujok determined to reach his destination that day and a deputy simply performing his duty, had lit the touchpaper that exploded into a powder keg of tragic consequences, as a scuffle ensued between the two men, entering the patrol car of Deputy Otto Fossen. Five shots shattered the tranquil Montana air. Moments later a man exited the car and fell into the nearby ditch. Sadly it was Deputy Otto Fossen, struck five times to the neck and chest, which ultimately proved fatal and he died shortly after reaching hospital.

The point to all this Rubislaw, is that correlation can be drawn from numerous sources, so pinpointing what Zodiac intended may be in the eye of the observer, if these random statements and designs meant anything at all. It's down to subjective interpretation and who buys what you or I are selling, or anybody else for that matter.

Fascinating information on Bujok.Richard.

Yes,I agree on the often apparent ''phenomenon'' of more than one interpretation gleaned.

Either we have a forger, working ''in tandem'' with Zodiac....or,Zodiac's intention to be ''ambiguous'',in his messaging.

Or,of course,it is simply ''our'' multi-interpretation [?].

Just good to put the options on the table, then assess what is on offer.

I was interested that you referred to ''13'' being referred to,in the Little List letter.....I see a possibility of it's use in the Halloween card.

The ''sorry no ciphers'' cross on the back of the Halloween envelope, does [....to me,anyway...] look like an abstract of the Southern Cross, slightly ''billowing'',and as depicted on the Confederate Flag.

The Southern Cross,is in effect, the St,Andrews Cross with 13 stars.

The 13 stars denoting the 13 Confederate States.

So,again the possibility,as with the 13 holes in the 13 hole card....we might be looking at a literal message of ''sorry no ciphers'' [twice]......but a ''simulation'' of the Confederate Flag.

Ouch that hurts my head and I got an A in Trig. So God Bless your souls, you who try to crack the codes. For my suspect Peter S. Plante, you are dealing with a schizophrenic, who is highly intelligent, but would keep it simple. Mathematical solution? Possibly, he did quote Pi frequently, but the solution would be simple. He did reference the meridian points in CA too. I solved the My Name Is cipher to Peter's name from the Graysmith solution to the 340, and that is in my book and was posted on Morf and Tom's sites. It does need to be anagrammed, but what are the odds one would come up with those exact letters. Doranchak said it's against the rules to anagram. Why? He ran it and came up with only 7 variations, 5 were women, one was Peter S Plante and the other one was Peter Pleasant. Drink your Ovaltine.

Some great comments,Judith.

It certainly hurts my head,to do such thinking on aspects of Zodiac.

But worth it.

Yes,I have seen your ''My name is ---'' solution.Naturally,at just thirteen characters, anyone's ''proof'' is going to be difficult,at best [?].

I can understand Doranchak's thinking....that for the relatively short cryptograms,it is unlikely that Zodiac would resort to anagrams.

But we ''know'' that Zodiac could be a ''lying cheat'' [!].

Lyndon Lafferty is like a god to me,as a private investigator....but his efforts at cryptography ''allowed much to be desired''.

His attempts to ''fit' William Grant into the ''My name is ----'' cipher solution, were so convoluted, that they defied gravity,as well as logic.

His strengths lay elsewhere.

Yes,unfortunately,I am unable to post my solution to that cryptogram. But I can say that I believe it to be the address,no longer in existence....but logically leads to Zodiac's senior High School. His ''Alma Mater'',as such.

And Richard is shrewd to have noted the ''3 to 10'' description on the ''13 hole'' card [...in my estimation...].The ''8 ball'' symbols are part of a word ''very connected'' to death.

Rubislaw 32 link
3/9/2018 01:49:25 pm

Absolutely Judith....that is Zodiac's ''literal'' intention,to convey.

Whether he was telling the truth,is perhaps, another matter [?].

Naturally,in this collection of comments, the possible ways,in which Zodiac ''presented'' his truth, has been discussed, since the ''presentation'' can offer up more clues about Zodiac, also.

The ''13 hole'' card is dated October 5th 1970.

Paul Stine was murdered one year earlier, and is presumed to have been Zodiac's 5th murder victim.

Do you think that Zodiac had murdered 8 more victims,in that year, beyond the murder if Stine ?

Rubislaw 32 link
3/9/2018 02:44:55 pm

Further to my question about 8 further possible murder victims,Judith....I genuinely ask that question of you, since your suspect is quite unique,in that you knew him intimately.

The person I believe could be Zodiac,is someone I had knowledge of,for about 30 years. But there was a period of about 15 of those years, when I hardly saw him.

So,my claims are largely ''historical''...whereas as your's,had ''then'' current knowledge.

If you don't feel inclined to answer,it would be perfectly understandable.

This interesting killer started killing in August 1888.

The victims may have been strangle - then - cut to pieces.

The newspapers may have misled the investigations here too.

Yes,BB....what I find of interest,in the case of Jack the Ripper,is that the London Met.,who hold jurisdiction, have ''virtually'' admitted that the scribe and perpetrator were two different people.

This seems to be a recurring theme with the case of the Zodiac Killer, for debate.

The quantity of correspondences,deemed ''unconfirmed'',more out of ''non-commitment'',than anything else,doesn't help [?].

Judith

I was a child of about 11 years of age living with my parents in Sacramento during the classic zodiac crimes. But my belief is that the killing never stopped until he could nor longer physically function. So yes, like the Golden State Killer, there are just so many. Peter would have never lied about the victim count. I have recently been in touch with my sister who was married to Peter's best friend and how I met him. She states they began to hang out around 1970. In 1972, they all took at trip to Canada. They met up with a friend from the Bay Area living in Canada, and went to camp at beach in Vancouver. That night a young couple were shot in their sleeping bags. The next day when they went to leave, Peter has her drive with him in the passenger seat. Her husband and the other guy in his van. The Mounties stopped them, but my sister provided perfect cover. She also said that Peter gave her greeting cards and that she will try to retrieve them with some help from her attic.

Fascinating what you have to say,on the subject,Judith....and it had escaped me,that you weren't married to Peter,at the time.

There has been talk about Blaine Blaine, and his claims about ''Gyke'',particularly since he was a contemporary and acquaintance of Gyke,at the time of ''Bay Area Zodiac''.

Lots of ''dissenters'' on that claim.I have heard that despite Gyke's revolutionary ideals,he was a very kind man.It appears that he just seemed to have a ''subversive'' tongue, among his friends.Yes,anyone can ''talk the talk''....but do they really mean it [?].

Interesting that you believe that Zodiac, and of course,by implication Peter, continued killing after Paul Stein.

There seems to be two bodies of opinion on this...the scenario that you have painted.....and the one where Zodiac made his ''real'' investment on terror, culminating with the murder of Stine....then,lived off the proceeds of the violence,in the form of terror,by correspondence.....i.e. mere threat.

I sway more to the latter scenario, and personally believe that Zodiac didn't kill again, until 1978.

But the ''unknowns'' are part of the reason that we remain interested,in the case.

Santa Rosa murders

The reasons why LE pushes the narrative that the cab crime was the end of the story -

is one; they did not want to escalate the panic anymore, and two; they did not want to give him the attention he craved anymore. They wanted to calm the public. The fishy thing was the Zodiac reciprocated - he said he would go for Government office. Maybe he was Nixon.

Rubislaw 32 link
3/10/2018 09:24:12 am

Indeed Connolly...and point taken.

To Zodiac, the Stine murder, through his correspondence feedback, seems to be a bit of a daring ''caper'',that he was relieved and delighted to have gotten away with [?].

If Zodiac was to have continued regular killing, one can imagine that,he would be looking for ''easier'' options.

And as Judith has just alluded to,what could be ''less difficult',than picking up young women, requiring, and often seeking,a lift.Even easier than chatting up a prostitute, and negotiating an advanced fee [?].

I originally ''fell'' into the Zodiac case, after researching the Santa Rosa Hitchhiker murders.

Those murders, not least their geographic proximity, tend to provide a possible solution for ''Zodiac victims'',post Paul Stine.

So,the question seems to be,if L.E. are in some sort of denial, after Stine....or,have they called it correctly.

The 70th anniversary of the outlaw motorcycle club known as the Hells Angels is this Saturday March 17 2118. They began 3-17-68 right next to my house here in San Bernardino. They use the #81 to mask their name H = the 8th letter and 1 = A for HA or Hells Angels. Saint Patric's Day. The club was started by the Bishop family. There are a lot of spiritual references here?

Hi Richard, I wasn't sure what article would be most appropriate to post this on... I went down a road the other day I'm sure you've travelled - trying to source the cut and past cards. I started with the Pace card and my first five minutes on newspapers dot com went brilliantly! I found the Smidgens comic strip where the collage author cut out the phrase "The pace isn't any slower in fact it is one big" which circulated widely on September 25, 1970. The closest paper to Zodiac's stomping grounds where this was printed was Oakland Tribune, but I could not verify that it did not also appear in the Chronicle, etc. I soon discovered of course that the Zodiac community found this years ago.

Some of the phrases seem like they must be headlines because of mid-sentence capital letters, such as "Some of Them Fought", but I couldn't find any hits that looked like the same font. I also tried the same approach to phrases in the Pines card but I couldn't even determine when the advertisement for Incline Village was printed.

Anyway I would love to hear if you have established any source links that could tell us what paper(s) Zodiac or a hoaxer may have used to create the Pace or Pines cards. The only constructive thought that emerged is that a mindful Zodiac likely would have been conscious about not taking all of his phrases from his local newspaper but that a hoaxer probably wouldn't show the same concern. If we could establish that more than one newspaper was sourced to create the Pace card I think it would really add to its authenticity as a Zodiac correspondence. On the other hand if we found a Sept 25 1970 newspaper that had the Smidgens comic and everything else in the Pace card I think that could point to either a potential city of residence of the Zodiac or (perhaps more likely) that of a hoaxer.

Richard
4/29/2018 01:47:35 pm

That is good thinking Drew. As you say, a hoaxer is less likely to worry where he sources his material. I've not looked at this for a while, but I guess you are referring to the San Antonio Express on 25th September 1970 and Oakland Tribune. I certainly haven't found anything extra to the information on this thread, which I guess is the one you have discovered.

One of the big problems of living outside the USA is lack of access to library materials, microfiche and newspaper archives. The only access we have is via online newspaper records that generally come at a cost, thereby limiting your reach. I shall re-read the thread and take a good look tomorrow- but I doubt I could add much more on this topic. I posted a question on the forum in relation to the stamps added to the on the July 31st 69 letters. If you remember my present and past tense argument on the killer living in Vallejo, not San Francisco, it was also apparent the killer placed four stamps on the Vallejo Times-Herald posting as opposed to just two on the Frisco letters. Somebody on the forum gave a good answer equating this with the eagerness of the killer to somehow ensure that this letter got there in "double time". A misguided thought on behalf of the sender, but nevertheless, considering these letters were postmarked on a Thursday, you could understand a Zodiac Killer eager to get his cipher in his home town paper before the weekend, and because of the 35 mile distance, thought that by maybe adding two extra stamps it would help his cause. This may also have shown the extra importance he placed on Vallejo and Times-Herald newspaper to begin with. His lack of correspondence with the Vallejo Times-Herald thereafter indicative of not giving away his area of residence, exactly the same premise that you are exploring regarding the paste cards. Have you any alternative ideas for the quadruple postage Drew. Thanks, Richard.

Drew
4/29/2018 02:04:24 pm

I did see that post you made about the four stamps and I think expediting the delivery is by far the best and actually the only explanation that has been proposed as the sender's intention. It fits perfectly with the Vallejo area residence theory. As far as resources to further investigate the cut and paste cards I am at a bit of a loss... but I did just get a job at a library, so maybe I will try taking my zodiac obsession to work - my boss will be thrilled!

Robert E Hunter Sr, who donated an entire wing to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, died March 28, 1971 at Cottage Hospital. Dooms day.

Hey Richard - have a look at what John Conway says? I find that d-day can be tri-day or Treblesday or deltaday [delta =3, as it is a triangle]. And, depending on the 13 moon calendar that you choose - The positivist's or The International Fixed Calendar or some other. It seems It is up to you to decide on what the final rules are to be - my friend - It is your discovery. And one I find most significant. - blue belly.

Richard
6/25/2018 02:30:26 pm

Even though I was excited about this discovery a few years ago, the recent findings about the calendar put a dent in my confidence. There are plenty of 13 moon calendars in history based on a 28 day month, but what is crucial, is for the murders to fall on the first day of a calendar week as I proposed, it is crucial that the calendar must begin on July 26th, rather than January 1st or any other date. Unless this calendar predating the Zodiac murders can be found, we have a big problem- as the murder dates don't line up anymore. This is the problem we face Blue Belly.

Came up with a cool solution. I've learned a lot about the numerology of Z13 here. Check out my cipher text string modification.

My name is -----

NEAMANω8M8K8+
ZEIRIZIAMAKA+

Zeiriz is a Greek word meaning Divine law of rule of life. Which makes me think of the religious numerology aspect and the anetheke my name like cipher text.

Using this method 888 is achieved by via simple gematria.
