A VENTURE INTO DARKNESS

2/7/2025

Picture
There is good argument to be had that the Zodiac Killer began the design of his July 31st 1969 letters and 408 cipher shortly after July 20th 1969, when the movie "Rampage" (1963), based loosely on "The Most Dangerous Game" (1932), was screened on television throughout the Bay Area. This was a film originally championed by movie posters, newspaper advertisements and the original Warner Brothers press book, carrying the slogans "The woman who was the most dangerous game of all", "The screen's mightiest excitements go on the rampage", "Big, Bold, Bob Mitchum is on a Rampage", "They lived, loved and fought by the code of the jungle" and "His code was to snare everything". It isn't difficult to see how the Zodiac Killer would then create a trinity of letters carrying the message that "man is the most dangerous animal of all" and that he would "go on a kill rampage". part enciphered within a code. This film, screened on American television just eleven days earlier, even had crosshairs featured in the opening credits of the movie.

However, this movie was likely the inspiration for the Zodiac Killer to delve into the newspaper archives and conduct some research into the original film "The Most Dangerous Game" (1932), using tools such as library microfiche. I recreated this possible research and looked for the phrase "man is the most dangerous animal of all" from 1690 to 1969 and found only one result in 1932.

PicturePress-Enterprise newspaper, November 24th 1966
Merian C. Cooper, the associate producer of "The Most Dangerous Game" was interviewed upon its release, and he was quoted as saying "man is the most dangerous animal of all". The Zodiac Killer had effectively plagiarized this quote and embedded it into his code. It turned out that Merian C. Cooper, an avid game hunter and explorer, had done something similar, taking the phrase from a quote by Frederick "Fritz" Joubert Duquesne, another game hunter.

Frederick "Fritz" Joubert Duquesne had previously stated that "The most dangerous animal of all to capture is the gorilla", that was likely picked up by Merian C. Cooper because he was working on the movie "King Kong" at the same time he was involved in the making of "The Most Dangerous Game". "King Kong" was directed and produced by Merian C. Cooper.

Frederick "Fritz" Joubert Duquesne and Merian C. Cooper had both worked for RKO Pictures inside of one year from one another. The movie company behind both "The Most Dangerous Game" (1932) and "King Kong" (1933) was RKO Pictures.

It appears as though DNA and fingerprint analysis has failed to bridge the gap between Riverside and the Bay Area murders, as has analyzing the text of the Riverside communications to forge a conclusive link in language between southern and northern California. This left one final option: discovering a commonality in design between the lengthy Riverside Confession letter and the July 31st 1969 letters mailed to the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner and
Vallejo Times-Herald. In other words, was there a recent trigger that caused the Confession letter author to delve into the library microfiche for suitable quotes from yesteryear? Long suspected to be based upon "The Most Dangerous Game" (1932), the 408 cipher author just happened to harvest the exact quote from its associate producer, spoken in 1932. What are the chances that the Confession letter author would find a equal length quote for his November 29th 1966 typed letter, harvested from the year of "Jack the Ripper" in 1888, after mimicking the wording from a recent newspaper article mentioning Cheri Jo Bates and "Jack the Ripper"? (see article clipping above).

PictureMANY NEWSPAPERS, DEC 11TH 1888
The author of the Confession letter seemed to borrow phrases from The Press-Enterprise newspaper on November 24th 1966. The newspaper article generated in the above link stated that the man "grabbed her around the neck". The confession letter author typed "I grabbed her around the neck with my hand over her mouth". The newspaper article stated "I could just hit you in the head with this piece of wood". The confession letter author typed "She let out a scream once and I kicked her in the head to shut her up". Both the Confession letter author and the man featured in the above newspaper offered the woman a lift home.

After reading the newspaper article on November 24th 1966 quoting "Jack the Ripper", its easy to reconcile a Confession letter author typing "Ripper" like phrases such as "cut off her female parts and deposit them for the whole city to see", "finished the job out cutting her throat" and "I am stalking your girls now". Especially when the additional phrase of "it was about time for her to die", present in the Confession letter, could only be found in one newspaper article on December 11th 1888 (the year of "Jack the Ripper"), from newspaper archive searches spanning 1690 to 1966. December 11th 1888 being the same day it was reported that "Jack the Ripper" had possibly "cut the throat" of a woman on Bermondsey Street in London, causing great excitement in the neighborhood.

Picture
  1. Here is the newspaper article entitled "The Sturdy Beggar" featured in the Evening Bulletin newspaper from Providence, Rhode Island on December 11th 1888. The attacker in this instance motioned towards a possible knife in his pocket and threatened that "it was about time for her to die", just like the Confession letter author who typed "I said it was about time for her to die. I grabbed her around the neck with my hand over her mouth and my other hand with a small knife at her throat".
It was believed that "Jack the Ripper" would grab his victims around the neck before drawing the knife across their throat to prevent any screaming. A gruesome scenario exemplified by a Confession letter which undoubtedly rejoiced in the cruelty of murder. Who then promised to remove body parts and display them for the whole city to see.

On July 31st 1969, we effectively have the Zodiac Killer using a quote from Merian C. Cooper, the associate producer of "The Most Dangerous Game" in 1932, only eleven days after the "Rampage" movie appeared on US television screens, that used a phrase based upon the Merian C. Cooper quote in its advertising. On November 29th 1966 we have an author commenting on the murder of Cheri Jo Bates, five days after a newspaper article featuring Cheri Jo Bates and "Jack the Ripper", using a quote from the "Jack the Ripper" era of 1888 in the form of
"it was about time for her to die", and promising to "cut off her female parts and deposit them for the whole city to see". The Zodiac Killer and an unknown author using "man is the most dangerous animal of all" and "it was about time for her to die" from 1932 and 1888 respectively, less than two weeks after the "Rampage" (1963) movie and a "Jack the Ripper" quote in a newspaper article concerning Cheri Jo Bates. I find it difficult to believe in this many coincidences being accidental. This may be the product of one individual using the same technique in 1966 and 1969.

Picture
As far as can be ascertained, it appears as though the white Chevrolet Impala described by Robert Connelly, Frank Gasser and Bingo Wesner in the Lake Herman Road police report never made it into the newspapers. This may have been held back to not encourage the driver of this vehicle to distance themself from it, as they attempted to track it down. However, subsequent to the second attack at Blue Rock Springs, the description of this vehicle, allied with the description of the man given by Michael Mageau, may have been useful in the public domain to gain assistance that was badly needed by police. Somebody may have known of an individual who had recently sold (or no longer drove) such a vehicle, had this person attempted to part company with the Chevrolet. A revised search could also have been done after Presidio Heights, when new descriptions of the killer were submitted by three sets of eyewitnesses within minutes of one another.

This individual parked the Chevrolet Impala in the Lake Herman Road turnout sometime prior to 9pm and 10pm on December 20th 1968 and wandered off into the night, before returning. Had this been the Zodiac Killer hunting for victims in the adjoining fields, the description of a pencil flashlight mounted on a gun now doesn't seem so fanciful. Apart from the eyewitnesses in the police report, only the Zodiac Killer would have known of this vacant Chevrolet Impala (had it been his). In other words, the Zodiac Killer may have brought up the notion of gun-mounted illumination, because he knew the hunt for victims initially extended beyond the turnout perimeter. An additional source of illumination that wouldn't have been required had the Zodiac Killer arrived at the turnout shortly after 11pm and remained within the confines of the turnout throughout. His murder of David Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen could easily have been achieved in a similar manner to that used at Blue Rock Springs, employing the headlights from his vehicle and/or a handheld flashlight to illuminate his victims from close range. The use of a pencil flashlight buys into the notion of a hunter stalking the surrounding fields of Lake Herman, along with his use of the phrase "man is the most dangerous animal of all" in the 408 cipher, plagiarized from the words of two big game hunters in Merian C. Cooper and Frederick "Fritz" Joubert Duquesne, who both worked for RKO Pictures in the 1930s.

Picture
The vacant white Chevrolet Impala close to 9pm, and sometime after 10pm coincides with Robert Connelly and Frank Gasser hunting raccoons in the adjoining field, so this may explain why the owner of the Chevrolet Impala decided to abandon his plans for murder during this time period (to possibly target Bingo Wesner or another). The thought of encountering two hunters was probably something he hadn't bargained for, resulting in him leaving twice and arriving for a final time shortly after 11pm.

This time he saw David Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen parked up in their Rambler, making any venture into the surrounding fields unnecessary. No wonder he wrote on August 4th 1969 "there was no need to use the gun sights.  All I had to do was spray them as if it was a water hose". There was never any need to use gun sights in the turnout - but for a hunter stalking his prey in the fields of Lake Herman at distance, having left his vehicle for a protracted length of time - the marksmanship provided by gun sights would have come in much more useful. A Zodiac Killer driving a 1959/1960 white Chevrolet Impala, that he was only too glad to concede was brown in the very same letter.

Newspaper December 23rd 1968: "We're presently checking out all the people usually in the area at the time the murder occurred" Officer Lunblad stated. "This includes the graveyard driver shift of the Humble Oil Company and several drivers who have reported that they passed along the road about the time of the slayings. Several people have reported seeing a car parked along the road with kids in it and one witness reported seeing two cars parked next to each other. "We haven't uncovered a motive yet, but robbery and sex have been eliminated" Lunblad added. "We have been unable to turn up any evidence of another car in the area.

Strange statement from Detective Sergeant Leslie Lundblad bearing in mind two eyewitnesses describing the white Chevrolet in the police report. Were they keeping this information deliberately close to their chest, so that the killer of Faraday & Jensen believed his vehicle hadn't been spotted that night, and would therefore feel confident in keeping the Chevrolet and continue to use it? Did the police check local Chevrolet drivers with a vehicle dated around 1959/1960, but without any incriminating evidence attached to that vehicle, they couldn't proceed any further? If they had done this, did the police ever revisit these Chevrolet owners once the Zodiac Killer gave us handwriting in the July 31st 1969 letters? Or did the police fail to follow up on all local 1959/1960 white Chevrolet drivers, having been sidelined into investigating only people who were acquainted with the victims?

Is that the one known as ''The man of a thousand glove-puppets'' ?

He gets everywhere.

Gyke van Winkle - He fell into a deep sleep of complacency for 15 years. And when he awoke, the Zodiac world had changed, and everyone was sniggering behind his back.

Most unfortunate.

As I've always said Rubi, I don't expect everybody to agree with my website articles, but if somebody has a difference of opinion, or finds something I've written unconvincing, then simply post some reasoning behind the disagreement or area of contention, rather than just resorting to insults. It really isn't that difficult to disagree constructively. Unfortunately however, it does seem a difficult concept to grasp for some. Just visit the Reddit/YouTube Nonsense thread on Tom Voigt's site for lessons on the inability to reason in a mature and coherent manner.

@Rubi,

I believe that's what's now commonly known as -- Gatekeeping. It's considered pathetic, troll-like, and precipitous of a fall, from grace or otherwise.

Sad.

I like that term ''Gatekeeper''.

An element of ''too much jobs-worthy for their own good'' to it.

Voigt only keeps himself self-satisfied by lashing out at others.

The Rainbow chaser, still hoping for the crock of gold ?

The Zodiac prepared his ''Greetings from Ireland'' electronic card, with Voigt in mind. Voigt appears to have always entertained the Zodiac.

I have conveyed to him that at least he has the card as a souvenir from the Zodiac. But Voigt is in denial over this.

Predictable.

What a bizarre thing to post. It both seems like such an odd comment, and at the same time, such a specific type of comment to make, especially anonymously.

It's as if a lover that was jilted, tries to anonymously get "backsies" for being jilted.

What an odd little person?

Rumour has it, EdEdwardsCiphers, that he has a very loyal wife - who actually cares that he is not ''sent down'' for the third and final time.

One would have thought that would be enough reason to stay out of trouble ?

Is that so? like a 3 strikes and you're out type thing. Interesting. So for instance if he engaged in some type of reportable behavior, there could be repercussions for him.

Interesting.

Wondering if it's like an impulse control thing, which has some connections to limited or damaged brain tissue, like from concussions or being hard headed.

Maybe there will be a lesson to learn then if that behavior can't be controlled. Perhaps we'll see how the future pans out.

This is what Lyndon Lafferty wrote of Mr Voigt, in his book ''The Silenced Badge'' :

''A despicable low-life leech. A man with absolutely no integrity, moral values or common sense. A man whose name I shall never grace by writing. He is the ultimate Zodiac whore.''.

Strangely, Voight seems to wear these words as a badge of pride.

He was noticed.

Of possible interest is that a ''quirky'' little film has just won an award at the Sundance Film Festival - which was originally based on Lyndon Lafferty's encounters with a man whom he believed was the Zodiac, claiming him to be William Joseph Grant.

During the filming, the late-Lyndon's family withdrew permission to draw inspiration from his book. I suspect CA DOJ recommended to them, to disassociate themselves from the project.

But, an award nevertheless.

I worked with Lafferty, swapping information Grant-wise with him, over the course of about a year (2013). I believe the Z-contributors Sandy and Zamantha held social associations with him.

This film is called ''Zodiac Killer Project''. I see it is being touted as a ''documentary'' - but it is fiction.

I opened up a thread at zodiackillermystery.freeforums.net called:

''The puzzle of Lyndon Lafferty's Library Legacy''. And it has received increased interest recently, in light of the film.

Graysmith was a meticulous researcher - but the Zodiac case has never known a ''Bloodhound'' quite like Lafferty.

An eccentric, a gentleman and ''priceless''.

EdEdwardsCiphers link
2/10/2025 07:06:19 pm

@Rubi,

I believe I've found it. Although it's a little hard to follow from the site. But thank you for that.

One thing I have to say is, what I find interesting from all of the usual "suspects" that are put forward by many in the community. I don't find many that speak to an understanding of cryptology and cryptography. Suspects I mean.

I would think that would be something that is an integral part of who the Zodiac was, just based on his cipher creation, which to me is both unlike anyone in American history, and specifically in true crime. I don't know of any other serial killer that has been as famous and still does not have a cipher that was broken as him.

I find it interesting that all proponents of suspects, casually leave that out. Seems like an omission to me. Feels like a very big piece that they miss. I can't say that to me it doesn't reek of confirmation bias. To me it seems like it's an integral part of the Zodiac persona. I just can't understand how some in the community don't seem to grasp it. But again, that may be why I'm different. Or just crazy.

But you also have the complete opposite for some. I'm not a cryptography expert (Don't tell my employer that btw) but some who put forth what they believe are ciphers and solves. I find it bewildering. I can't understand the effort some have actually put forward.

There was a person on the void sight, that may still be posting music videos, religious sayings and psalms from the bible, and reams and reams of drivel. Just a really strange occurrence that gives shades of mental duress.

But alas, I'm part of it too I guess. Time will tell perhaps .

As a brief assessment of the Zodiac, EdEdwardsCiphers:

As a cipher maker, he was a ''home brew merchant'', having picked up some information from a book. Prior to this, he had been a keen crosswords buff. The Zodiac realized that sending messages in covert fashion would be another feather in his cap to the ''intrigue'' of him - and although some of these cryptograms might be solved, buy him enough time to always stay a step ahead of those that tried to figure him out and predict his next move.

Just another, but novel, form of communicating.

He was bright, but his first effort, the 408, turned out to be a bit of a shambles of unforced errors - and he guessed, when he saw the Harden solution in the SF Chronicle, that there would be a few in LE and newspapers, who would be ridicule him. The Zodiac intended to convey ''menace'' - but the message actually sounded infantile. His mistakes had taken the sting out of it.

From that day forth, he realized that he was going to have to sharpen up his act with cryptograms and ciphers, if he was going to use this form of messaging, again.

I would say that, with the Zodiac as Scorpion in the 1990's, he really was on top of his game as a cipher maker, with very cleverly concealed messaging - and humorous. He had ''matured'', as such. even though taking a break from cryptograms and ciphers, between 1973 and 1988. It was Graysmith's book ''Zodiac'', which encouraged the Zodiac to return to the art and science of ciphers, as a novel form of communication.

Here is a tangent, though I trust this bunch to let me toss it out while I do more research.

In 1968, an 18 year old student at U of Wisconsin-Madison, Christine Rothschild, was stabbed to death on campus. Blonde, pretty, smart. The case has not been solved.

One possible suspect was a medical intern who was from Loma Linda, CA, where he grew up and went to school/med school. He would have been about age 39 at the time of the murder of Cheri Jo Bates. His father was a prominent doctor in the area. This can be a case of seeing a connection where there is none.

The Madison suspect is named in a book by Linda Schulko, who was a close friend of the Madison victim. Another suspect was the killer of Valerie Percy in Chicago. So, there is that.

I have not found Christine and Cheri Jo connected yet in any amateur sleuth posts.

Thoughts?

Rubislaw32 link
2/9/2025 06:00:12 pm

That's interesting, Robert, and Valerie Percy is certainly a familiar case - particularly in the ''co-ed'' groupings of murder.

All I can add at present is, that Riverside PD seem pretty confident of a suspect for Cheri Jo Bates. But, equally frustrated that CA DOJ have yet to show enthusiasm over a prosecution. And this may simply be because Riverside have not been able to offer enough for a confident conviction.

Richard

Christine Rothschild (18), of 6338 N. Kenmore, was on the arts and science program, stabbed approximately 14 times, had a broken jaw and was possibly strangled on the university campus sometime between 10am and 1pm on Sunday, May 26th 1968. The coroner, Clyde Chamberlain said she was viciously attacked but found no evidence of a sex attack. Some footprints near the body were probably from her killer, but some were left by Phillip Van Valkenberg (22), a part-time university maintenance employee who discovered the body.

She was last seen alive at 4:30am on Sunday by Mrs Gertrude Armstrong, a night hostess at Ann Emery Hall where Christine Rothschild had a single room on the first floor. Gertrude told police that Christine Rothschild was walking towards a washroom dressed in a nightgown. When her body was found she was wearing a minidress with black boots and three-quarter length beige coat and undergarments. The Madison Lieutenant Donald Mickelson said there was no connection between this murder and recent attacks on students near the southeast side of the campus from gangs of youngsters involving no weapons.

It was later believed she was killed shortly after leaving her dormitory at 6:30 to 8:00am, and the FBI crime laboratory concluded she had died with one hour of eating carrots, spinach and cabbage. Dormitory doors were unlocked at 5:30am, hence the earliest time of death placed at 6:30am. She did not eat from the dormitory dining room, with breakfast served between 8:00 and 9:00am. Her body was found behind bushes in front of Sterling Hall, a physics building on Charter Street.

A 29-year-old mentally challenged man confessed to the murder and told police where the knife could be found. Police found a hunting knife hidden behind books in a bookcase from the University Co-operative bookstore, where the man had told police to look. However, the knife had one sharp edge, whereas the murder weapon had two sharp edges, it was learned. He was not arrested or charged. They later questioned a surgeon who worked at the university hospital at the time of the slaying.

At the foot of the Melvin Belli letter it appeared that the Zodiac Killer was mimicking lines from a previous crime scene, later accredited to William Heirens, who was also known as the Lipstick Killer. William Heirens was eventually captured and convicted in 1946 for the murders of three females over a seven month period.

Josephine Ross had been stabbed numerous times in her apartment at 4108 North Kenmore Avenue on June 5th 1945. Christine Rothschild lived at 6338 N. Kenmore, about 3 miles north.

Dearest Richard,

This is the first I'm hearing of both these murders, and a connection to William Heirens. Himself such a sad story. I believe he maintained his innocence all the way up to his death.

If true, that would be a herculean, sisyphean, and shakespearean level tragedy if he was in fact innocent, yet had to serve prison time till death.

It may not be well-known that Heirens is connected by an author to a certain Zodiac suspect, so it peaks my interest that you are saying that there is a connection to the Belli letter, the Zodiac and Heirens.

As previously mentioned, I study some of the letters in the Zodiac case intensely. And I am always on the lookout for more letters that are believed to be pertinent to the case -- even tangentially.

Do you happen to have a link to this research and connection? If not, could you clarify this perceived connection within the letter? I would be most honored to hear that.

Only the recent article I did on Melvin Belli Ed, in which I showed Zodiac's possible inspiration for the Belli letter. " This claim of a lack of control formed the basis of the Melvin Belli letter on December 20th 1969 in which Zodiac thrice feared he was about to lose control and needed help from Melvin Belli. I wasn't sure whether a strong connection could be forged between 1945 and the letter in 1969 until the discovery of a comprehensive analysis of the Zodiac Killer by Dr. Lawrence Z. Freedman, a psychiatric consultant to the National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence. Chairman of the Institute of Social and Behavioral Pathology at Chicago University, his in-depth psychological analysis of the Zodiac Killer in November 1969 was part of the World Book Science Service and was published statewide in the newspapers, including The Napa Valley Register on November 21st 1969. Dr. Lawrence Z. Freedman (85), who was a pioneering forensic psychiatrist whose research and writings delved into the causes of violence, particularly assassinations, terrorism and mass murder, died on October 6th 2004 at his home in Chicago".

.Lawrence Z. Freedman's thoughts on Zodiac pleading for "control" were published in late November 1969 featuring the writing on the wall by (supposedly) William Heirens. I suspect these articles were responded to by Zodiac in December 1969, firstly by asking for help on December 7th 1969, then on December 20th 1969 when he stated he was losing control. I will now unfortunately have to go down the rabbit hole of reading this Dr's take on this, and the connection he made between these two, based on only what at the time could have been called, an excellent profiling of the motivations of the killer.

Many thanks again.

Here is two more, EdEdwardsCiphers:

1) The Scotch Tape letter of July 19th 1978:

Starts: ''I am the Zodiac, and I am In control.''

Ends: ''I am the Zodiac, and I am in control.''

2) The Flag/Totem Poles cipher solution, circa 1991-1995

Originally sent to the NYPD, the FBI leave it up to the viewer whether the cipher maker is The Zodiac or The New York Zodiac, Heriberto Seda. Two years ago, Seda claimed that he had only left cryptic symbols on napkins, by victims. Simply not in the cryptic puzzle league as the SF Zodiac.

Solution:

THIS IS THE ZODIAC SPEAKING
I AM IN CONTROL
WHO MASTERS BE READY FOR MORE
YOURS TRULY

More than probably, this initiated the Zodiac as Scorpion, from 1996 to circa 1998. Sending in total, five ciphers. Two of which are now in the public domain.

I read and enjoy all your work on the Zodiac crimes, Richard! Even if I do not agree with every conclusion! Such is healthy debate!

Please do not allow the known bottom-feeder of this case distract you at all. That guy has a criminal history of his own he should be most concerned about. He has less than zero credibility (here, there or anywhere).

With every single murder victim and/or with every single murder crime scene one has the ability to fu**** up 50 times and sofor apprehend himself rather earlier then later. Again, roundabout 50 possible mistakes on just one crime scene!

1.HOW MANY SERIALS SENDED MORE THEN SAY 3 LETTERS DIRECTLY TO POLICE?

2.HOW MANY SERIALS CALLED POLICE TO REPORT THEIR OWN CRIMES EVER?

3.HOW MANY SERIALS WROTE CYPHERS/CODES AND SENDED THEM TO POLICE?

4.WHAT IS THE LOWEST EVER RECORDED AVERAGE IQ OF SERIALS WHICH USED [OR PLANED TO USE] BOMBS, ACCORDING TO BSU (FBI's) OWN RESEARCH OVER DECADES?

5.HOW COMES WE CAN NOT, 50+ YEARS LATER, RECONSTRUCT EVEN ONE SINGLE CANONICAL Z-CRIME SCENE PROPER, CLEAN AND CONCLUSIVE FROM START TO END?
DOESEN'T THAT MEAN, THEY TOO, WERE NOT ABLE TO DO THAT BACK THEN WHEN THOSE CASES WERE STILL FRESH?

6.FINAL AND CATCH QUESTION ]8-)
JUST 50 MISTAKES? HOW MANY ADDITIONAL MISTAKES CAN BE MADE IF ONE IS KNOWN TO WRITE LETTERS TO ALL OF HIS 'SECRET PALS'?

With that all answered correctly everyone, and their incontinent aunt aswell demented uncle, should be on the exact same page in regard of Zodiac's real IQ.

Sidenote:
Arthur Leigh Allens IQ was never 140, not even close. Not even the full 100 points! Graysmith (and later Tom Voigt & Ed Neil) and their ALA fairytales are one thing, but when some dumb pretender like ALA was able to fool and mess around with several LE agencies, from different jurisdictions, for decades...no words. And no, personaly I don't have any POI nor suspect(s) - never had, never will!

PREVIEW: NEXT TOPIC - NEXT TIME
Why do I have, almost forensic evidence, and if not that then at least a strong + stringent psychological explanation, that The Zodiac never was some weakling nor coward type, while 10.000+ Zcase experts claim exact the opposite? Well, maybe I should check my head? Any hole in the middle of my forehead? Nooh, we can't have that, can we. Or maybe it's because I dislike to just repeat blindly some crap of other imbeciles, playing around with things they never had any intellectual entrance into it in the first place...all together great hunters with big cunning plans. How about 120% critical re-evaluation and reconstructive rethinking? @Rub32 Big bad Zody was some heavy Anti-CIM-Dude, dude! I assume strongly thats no news for you, but what about Druizer?

Meanwhile...

48Hours epazode about a girl which behaved like Damien. Well, you know, that 70s cult movie Damien. You can watch it, but I don't think its a comedy like that barfing Blair kindergarden flic.

American couple adopted 2 kids from overseas, 9y old girl and a infant boy. While the boy was normal, after a couple of months the girl showed very disturbing behaviour...she tried to kill her little brother and a few weeks later also the family dog. That couple tried everything and so they visited alot of "experts" which analyzed the girl. Based on their horrific analysis, of all those "experts", the parents saw themselves forced to send that girl back where they got her in the first place - she was a threat to their lives, experts said.

This is the modern day version, kind of Z-sidestory, about a bunch of scarlatans who cannot even diagnose if their own shoelaces are open or closed. This is an example story about that 'Dr.Kelleher & Dr.Van Nyse' class of experts which poluted, mudded and foged the Zodiac case since day one.

Guys, can you please ring that fool up for me? I wanna talk with Dr.VanNyse here and in public about The Zodiac and what Zodiac was/is and what not. Thank you in advance ]8~)

Zody: "This is The Zodiac speaking!"
Baldprick: "I have a cunning plan..."

LHR, night, secluded country spot, they are alone and do what teenagers do at that age, they explore each other bodies, or maybe they just talk about the bands they like at most. Some asshole drives by, blends them, dark figure gets out of his car, bullet shower, teens dead....ghosts, all 3 of them. Blitzkilling those unarmed innocent kids, out of nowhere, without reason, is that the work and doing of a coward and weakling? ABSOLUTELY !!!
Z=1
XY=10

BRS, night, again secluded area, a parking lot, again 2 teenagers, the boy seems to be in love with the girl, and she is kind of interested too. Suddenly somebody drives by, it's asshole again. Bullet shower, slowmo blood splatter overall, moanings because of unbearable pain, perp speeds away. Girl dies, boy is shot into a cripple - lifelong pain 24/7. Dark figure makes his phone call to VPD. Was that the work of a coward? ABSOLUTELY !!! Dark figure waits in hiding with abnormal patience more then a half year.

XY=30

Here and there he would look at his expensive swiss watch, brandname Zodiac, German precision but from the alps, extremely nice logo too...grinning to himself. In his mind he planned it all out, since long months, step by step, repeat from start. But that's not a guarantee its gonna go like planned, he is aware of that. How manny right now, how many do I need?

Next thing we know he mails 3 letters to the press confessing his crimes, incriminating himself and leaving a ton of assumed evidence they can work on against him. Additionaly there is that Z408cc tricryptogram too. Cops confiscated that all immediately. Less than a few hours later FBI, NSA, CIA and others are highly alerted and already form their CIM group.

Days later...
He is watching again at his left wrist and thinking...indeed very nice logo, and so telling (smirks). The colors, the weight, the balance, snakeskin leatherband, brandname, that exceptional precision, everything about it is perfect!

Thats ultra-confrontational as fck! Cowards and mental and/or emotional weaklings shy away of anykind of any confrontations against a stronger opponent or force going even so far to the point of self degradation and self humiliation. This guy does exactly the opposite. This guy puts his head on a chopping block and mails invitation cards - Just one brain against the might of 500+++ brains and their combined experience, their combined knowledge, their combined might, their combined abilities & capabilities because of almost endless resources. It wasn't enough just to provoke those 20-30 cops because of his doings at LHR and BRS, no, he had to include some Z408cc thingy, hinting at it once cracked they would be able to understand what it is all about.

LEVEL1 - immediately 3 letters to 3 different destinations, instead of just one letter. Sofor they can't be missed or ignored or "somehow get lost". Maybe one, but you can't do that with all 3 letters sended to greedy & bloodthirsty yellow press corpos.

LEVEL2 - authentification / ID beyond any doubts

LEVEL3 - establishing an extortion-situation of the highest order

LEVEL4 - showing them that Z408cc 'something' they cannot decode as fast as they think they would need to (causing extreme pressure, anger and frustrations)

Making that tricryptogram not too easy because that would make him look dumb in public eye...and we all know everybody has 3 masks - one is for private life, one is the public image, and one is top secret. On the other hand it may not be too difficult for his pursuers to solve because that again would mess up his pre-installed timeline of things to come. Around one week later "a couple from Salinas" solved it. The press boasted immediatelly, implying between the lines, that not even the almighty CIA codebreakers nor specialized FBI agents were able to crack it but then some sort of 'amateurish crossword puzzlers' did it - namely, the hardens.

LEVEL5 - they have decoded Z408cc, his mission statement, but just LAYER1 like he programed them to do. "Now, post that MS in pretty fine all over my territory" he must have thought with a grin on his face. The press, like usual, the intellectual imbeciles they are, talked for weeks about how he lied because there was no name he promised them to give. No idiots, it was never about some name, it was about how HE lead YOU to post HIS demands and threats for the PUBLIC to see, alowing HIM to get everybody into HIS grip of fear.

Now, fast forward to 2016 where some selfproclaimed profiler, pretender Mark Hewitt, almost ejaculated into his uptight pants when he wrote the following passages:

Now, fast forward to 2016 where some selfproclaimed profiler, pretender Mark Hewitt, almost ejaculated into his uptight pants when he wrote the following passages:

"...the Vellejo police came up with a deviously clever tactic, and took action in the early days of August. It would not be until many years later, and much research by the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit (BSU) into the minds of serial killers, that researchers would be able to appreciate the ingeniousness of the VPD..."

"At a press conference held to discuss the letters, VPD Chief Jack E.Stiltz raised suspicions that the writer was in fact not the killer, and demanded more proof."

"...The VPD had stumbled upon a brilliant strategy to draw the Zodiac out of hiding. Whether they were conscious of their cleverness or not, they were engaging in activity that would become standard practice for the BSU in the 1980s."

"Stiltz's brazen gambit -- if that is what it was -- worked. Many criminals could be expected to pass on the bait. They would notice the trap, or they would decide that they had already provided enough proof."

(Source: "Hunted-The Zodiac Murders" Kindle version, "Chapter - The More Material Letter", p.196-198)

Guys, huge news, according to insider Mark Hewitt here, the VPD themselves teached the BSU yongens about advanced strategies and superior tactics when dealing with serial killers. I bet Mr.Ressler must have been so impressed that he never ever wrote any Zodiac profile after that conference. As soon as Hoover got wind about how gread VPD is, he made them immediatelly into super secret FBI agents, incoqnito, in order to hunt Zo, ehm, Arthur 'The Ghost Of Cordelia' Leigh Allen.

And, sorry to correct you again Mark, but VPD knew & still knows jackshit about The Zodiac. Secondly, it was not Chiefs Stiltz's idea, he was just the messenger for the guys in background who advised VPD and other PDs what to do. Of course, it was an overall genious move by mental titans - not only to allow any criminal and/or terrorist to speak in public, but especially that 'one in a million' Zodiac dude with off chart values for intelligence, methods of deception, laying out ruses, merciless cruelty and many more "arts" of the psychological warfare sort - to come up to the stage even if it was only through letters, hoover over that red carpet VPD & press dummies rolled out for him and let him talk as much he wanted, what he wanted, and how long he wanted...all in public without any control whatsover. So Mark, your dumb Zodiac fucked up again not only the plan the press had but also VPDs xtra cunning plan based on the stories and ideas of those "unknown advisers" which should have known better...and that was just one time of so many times they all got their teeths kicked in.

Btw Mark, even if I might appear to you a bit nitpicky, that free and searchable database about serials you have mentioned in one of your Z-books, you remember? Radford University! That project doesn't exist anymore, if it ever did in the first place, at least not for public consumption. Students from there themselves were not able to find their own database / project. Big Bad Zody must have deleted it shortly after 2018, right ]8~)
